I purchased a new dual-fuel HVAC system with a heat pump from Coastal Aire when we bought our house in June 2025. Unfortunately, despite strong recommendations from multiple friends who had great experiences our experience has been nothing but frustrating. My friends are intelligent, detail-oriented engineers who were very involved and knowledgeable during their installs. Since my house had similar needs, I trusted their recommendations and chose the same system. Looking back, I can't help but wonder if they saw an opportunity to take advantage of a woman overwhelmed with purchasing her first home while her husband was deployed overseas. It wasn't until I started gathering documentation to seek legal advice because my system has never functioned properly despite having a tech come out 10 separate times to work on it that I realized the installed equipment did not match what we paid for according to my invoice and install notes. Aside from being sold one thing and having another installed my next biggest concern and issue is that the heat pump has never functioned. Communication has been consistently poor. Calls aren't returned when promised, issues aren't addressed in a timely manner, and it feels like we're stuck in an endless cycle of technicians coming out, spending hours on the phone with tech support, and the problem continues to be unresolved. The owner/president, John, has now stepped in and assured us he is going to "take care of everything," but at this point it honestly feels like empty promises and excuses. I would strongly encourage anyone considering Coastal Aire to do thorough research and pay close attention to their reviews and customer service history. I will be happy to return with my alternative recommendations as I'm getting referrals and meeting with other companies to get another opinion. read more

As others have reviewed, unfortunately this company is neither responsive nor reputable. I would also tend to add that they are incompetent. They installed 3 AC systems in my new home build in 2020, and ever since the installation one of the units has never functioned properly. I have spend entire summers for 3 years calling, texting, sending pictures, calling, texting, etc. and they have never resolved all of the issues such that the malfunctioning AC unit would work properly. Finally this year I have given up. Called twice about a month ago and again a week ago, spoke to someone on second call who said they would call back. Par for the course, they did not call back. So I've given up and decided to try to get it fixed by a company that knows what they are doing. Some of the incompetence: 2 of the outdoor units were paired with the wrong AC units on initial installation. Kinked copper tubing during installation and not repaired. After swapping outdoor units, did not check refrigerant charge (at least one unit is overcharged, waiting for full repair appointment to check 2nd unit charge). Obviously, I do not recommend for any service/installation whatsoever. read more

I gave them a good review in 2015. Since then, they have been totally unresponsive. Too busy to deal with our issues, like HVAC flues that were left closed at the time of installation and a jury-rigged slot for the HVAC filter that is impossible to use and does not fit the appropriate sized filter. We are unable to get the correct-size filter into our unit. John, the boss, refuses to do anything for us. Avoid at all costs! I wish our general contractor had found a reputable HVAC company. Left a note on my door, but didn't knock or call. I saw the truck drive away and they claimed they tried to reach me. Management is lazy and deceitful. AC has been out since May and they play childish games with their customers and lied about scheduling service. read more

After several calls to and finally a call back from Coastal Aire in October, a tech came out in early November to check my furnace and to check and install a new pad in the humidifier. I was out of town for 2 weeks, so didn't notice the water on the floor at the base of my furnace until I returned. Every time the humidifier was on, water pooled at the base of the furnace, and I couldn't locate where it was leaking. I have called at least 5 times between November 23 and December 4 and requested a call back to schedule a tech visit. I have received NO calls and the humidifier is still not working. (I had to turn it off myself). read more

Coastal Air just finished installing my new central air conditioner and the service men were polite and professional. Coastal Air also put in a new furnace for me a few years ago when the old one went out in freezing December weather and they had the new one in the next day. I am very happy with the owner, John Mannelly, who was great to work with. read more

The worst company to ever think of giving your business to. They incorrectly installed the heat system in my house. Here is how they botched the job: The Heat system was installed all wrong. They put the vents in the wrong place and installed the returns in the ceiling so that they would pull the hot air back to the furnace. Heat rises! They obviously do not understand this simple concept. They never set up and adjusted the system. I found them very Insulting and rude to work with. Stay away from this company. My A/C was not working. Coastal Aire came out and checked the system. I was told the system was empty. The tech pressure tested the system and couldn't find a leak. He recharged the system and charged me $682.00 Three weeks later the system was empty again. I called Coastal Aire and was told if I purchased a new unit I may get a discount. I was told he would have to call me back. They never called. read more

I have waited almost 2 weeks for Coastal Aire to move my air condition unit just several feet. Today (4/27/20) was my appointment with them. I have stayed home all day waiting for them, At 3;45 pm they called to say that I need to pick another date as they could not make it. I talked to Mario, who was very rude on the phone to me, as I told him that I waited all day at home. He said that everyone is home anyway. I have my own business and work everyday. I will never do business with this company again and I urge you the same. read more

I called this morning about a strange noise my furnace has been making for a while. They were able to send a tech out the same day (today). Justin, the tech, was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. He quickly and easily diagnosed the issue and also solved a secondary issue with my heating that I did even realize I had. I highly recommend this company. read more

Had Justin by to check out the air and heating systems. He answered all my questions and gave me a short HVAC education. Price was more than reasonable for the work done - even put in a new thermostat (old one must have been 20 years old, like the house) He said that the igniter should be replaced when we do the fall inspection. Terrible customer service. Scheduled to be here at 9, by 11;30, I called and the owner said he was busy and got held up. Finally showed up and said he would call me with an estimate the next day, 4 days later he finally called and gave me a quote and said he would email it to me, never received it. We set up a time for his worker to be at my home at 7AM, because of the heat, he needed to be in the attic. Ben his worker showed up on time and accessed the job, and realized it could not be done due to space confinement, So he said he would replace a section of our ducting that he thought was potentially the problem. He said that he wanted to discuss it with the owner John, and that he would be back in a half an hour with the duct he needed. After 5 hours, he still was not back, so I called and the owner said he got held up and was on his way. An hour later I called back and the owner radioed him and found he decided to do another job. I was furious!!! I needed to leave and he told me that Ben would call me by the end of the day to do the job, Its now been a week and still have heard nothing from the company!!! read more

I'd been doing business with Coastal Aire & Sheet Metal for many years through my work with great results, so I recommended that my husband call for our midi heat pump refrigerant charge and testing. The owner John answered the phone and was abusive that we had purchased and installed the system ourselves. Huh? Didn't even get to the part where we needed to purchase a HVAC system for the main house! Too disgusted with the initial response from John. read more

Justin came out to do a quote to replace our swamp cooler. He was very rude!!! Finally got someone to come out to install and they were great. Patrick was very professional and very pleasant. But unfortunately they were not able to finish the job since Justin didn't do his job. Now we have to contact a plummer to hook the water up and an electrician to replace the circuit breaker. We also spoke with John and he was just as rude as Justin. Do not do business with this company it's not with it!!! read more

Terrible, Terrible. ..and the one year warranty has expired. Coastal Aire does heating and AC. However, we did not hire them for that. We hired them to install rain gutters on our two story home. They were the lowest bid we received, and now I know why. Total Frustration. After 4+ call backs on leaky corners, we thought repairs on original work was complete. However, because of the past year drought, a true test of the gutters could not be made until this year, 2012. Just a sample: The deck cover gutters do not drain. The water pooled at the opposite end of where the downspouts are. I think they installed to match the roof line. Well,..the roof line is not exactly level. They should have used a string level to determine proper drainage. Another: This year we have had lots of rain and snow. The corner on the second story is full of ice and on 33 degree days, it leaks onto the entryway into our front door. I am waiting for the gutter to come crashing down because of the weight of the ice. We recently purchased a Energy Efficient Furnace.. 98%. ! I am so glad we did not have Coastal Aire install that. read more
