I am constantly surprised by this office and all they do. I was scheduled for audiometry, but Chris found so much wax in my ears it couldn't be done. He told me to see an ENT to have the wax removed. It was a BIG hunk of wax, but it popped out easily. When I came for my rescheduled appointment, there was Chris, all smiles as if nothing had happened. The test showed my hearing continues to fail so both were were reset upwards. Chris cleaned them so they were all shiny like new. I adore these people! read more

My opinion - They appear to have nothing but 5 stars. They might be awesome but... If you want a competent audiology test and recommendations for a fair priced hearing aid, this is likely not the place. That said, I'm sure the audiology test is competent but they have several flat fee plans. The first tier offered to me was an $8,000 flat fee. It ties you to them for a number of years, likely yearly tests and they clean the hearing aids. The lowest tier is $3,000 flat fee which commits you to them for a year I believe and offers you a selection of refurbished hearing aids donated by other patients. For the right person with cash to burn this might be perfect. However, it's not what I want nor need. The above is my impression after visiting their offices and speaking with the person handling reception. Apparently she also does the audiology tests. Not certain if she's a receptionist or an audiologist. I did not ask. read more

I felt like I was being taken, the hearing aids we're suppose to help my Tinnitus. Which they did not, the aids were extremely expensive $175.00 for 4 years. Went in for an adjustment and they had a new Lyric hearing aid that would be perfect for me. They were placed in my ears, 2 weeks later while on vacation I had to pull one out of my ear, it made noise screech. Went back to Chris told him I didn't like them, he adjusted them and told me it would be better, each visit after that I told him I didn't like them. Finally I told him I wanted the old ones back. There was only a 30 day money back policy, these Lyric hearing aids cost $3,500.00. I believe they took advantage of me. He should have returned the Lyric when I first complained and I would have gotten my money back. This was a horrible expensive experience. I thought this was a responsible business. They take advantage of people who are looking for help. read more

It is a state law that hearing aids can be returned within 45 days & be given a full refund. When I attempted to return the hearing aids within that given period of time, I was given a hard time. Refund was delayed & I was pressured to give a good written review prior to receiving a refund. There was a great deal of pressure to keep a pair of hearing aids that was inadequate. Price was also very high, compared to other hearing dispensers. read more

These folks really take care of their patients. Like a lot of older vets I wear hearing aids from being around a lot of things that go bang during military service. Recently I had a problem with one of my hearing aids and decided to try Coastal and am I ever glad I did. Instead of just working on the hearing aid that had the problem, the tech, Michaela, cleaned and refurbished both hearing aids and gave me a goody bag with batteries and wipes. What a breath of fresh air! I've been wearing hearing aids for about 12 years now and have been through multiple hearing tests. Recently I've felt my aids weren't sufficiently helping me, and thought I'd like to see if I needed new ones. My experience with Coastal Hearing Aid Center was by far the smoothest, most rewarding yet. I received an extensive test, including types of testing I'd never before had. I was made to feel comfortable and assured in the testing process, and in the end, no high pressure sales for new aids! I decided to pursue hearing aids because I thought perhaps there might be something that could be done about the tinnitus I had been diagnosed with through my doctor. I found Coastal Hearing Aid Center in Encinitas after looking online and doing a bit of research. I went into the center to make an appointment and met Dr. Stacey Chobany, an audiologist, and a couple of others on their staff. I made an appointment and brought with me the audiologist exam from my doctor. After looking at the exam, Dr.Stacey said she had hearing aids that might be helpful and that I was a good candidate for them. We tried one brand that did not have tinnitus features and then another brand that did. One thing I like about this business is they schedule appointments for at least an hour for discussion, trying on hearing aids, adjusting them for the person, and then giving them a try, with a return appointment in two weeks to see how they were working. I did all of this before choosing the hearing aids I now own. Dr. Stacey was very helpful every step of the way and I feel like we have a relationship as doctor and patient who trust each other, making it easier for me to adjust to believing in the benefit of hearing aids for my situation. After consultation and considering my financial situation, I paid an upfront fee to be serviced by this center for 20 years, what most likely is the rest of my life. This will include automatic upgrades to newer hearing aids if needed, every four years, all cleaning and maintenance of my hearing aids, any advice I might need for the hearing aids, my condition, etc. So now, I am with Coastal Hearing Aids for the long run and feel comfortable that I have found a good resource for my circumstance. Dr. Stacey is very skilled in evaluating and listening to the needs of the patient. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing hearing aids. Another thing that helped me become more informed about hearing loss was reading a free copy of a book called Hear 4 Life, by Coastal owner, Dr. Christopher Sumer. Reading his book helped me to decide to pursue a relationship with Coastal Hearing Aid Center. The customer service and friendliness of the office staff is superior. I called the Center about a question I had with my current hearing aid. The receptionist was very thoughtful and helpful. Since I was only looking for a servicing and possible diagnostic on the malfunctioning, I was given a green light to come right on over. (No guarantee everybody will get this quick response, but it works for me!) The gentleman that took care of me was also thoughtful and helpful--and knowledgeable! Another great service from Coastal Hearing Aid. I had noticed that one of my devices was cutting out so I called for an appointment and they scheduled me that day. The receptionist took my aids and cleaned them and replaced a wire - they both now work great. Oh, and I got a new box of batteries, my wife & I use the same batteries.
