Eye clinic that spends it's time between here on the coast and Portland. Met with Dr. Stoumbos and…read moreher clinician Nancy. First time there, so filled out the paperwork, and didn't have to wait too long at all. They share what seems to be an office area with cardiologists, so I was not only the youngest lad there, I got to meet some really cool seniors who were just funny as hell. One man was a stand up comic in his previous life and had so many jokes for me that it was like I was at a club. I do a lot of work with the senior population, so it is always an honour to get opportunities to socialize with them. The spirit of my grandmother was there expressed via the concern of these sweet ladies over the fact that I was wearing shorts on a stormy day. Nancy was awesome. Very personable. direct, and explained everything thoroughly. Gold star for understanding my obtuse humour. Great chair side manner. Dr. Stoumbos was very friendly, mild mannered, and knowledgeable. She answered all of my questions with ease. I am not the typical "just sit there" patient, so I ask about how things work and why. I am very proactive medically, as I have to be my own advocate, and don't trust many "white coats". Dr. Stoumbos was very thorough and clear. Sadly, my vision got worse (the nuns said I'd go blind--eeek), but at my age, dropping from 20/10 vision in both eyes to 20/15 is a fact of life I will accept. As long as I can be a show off on the eye charts for a few more decades, I'll be cool. (wink).

Please be very careful. Especially if you are prescribed steroids. Check labels (know what you are…read moretaking). Make sure you are monitored... Prednisone is a seriously harsh drug. The physical side effects are horrendous. This drug will change the way your body functions fundamentally, and you can kiss your looks goodbye. The worst part is what it does to a normally functioning brain. If you decide to seek this M.D. - ask questions. As a drug refuser entire life, got duped as a means of pacifying me. The medication wrecked my constitution overall (in bed for a year + to date) but you will not believe the social reprocussions from job loss to pariah, due to deformation. My physical presence changed so radically I was once asked by a member of my community if I was on meth amphetamines. I had three numbers for this doctor and her office - they all bounce back. Would not issue an MRI (first line of defense in my eye sight loss) - palmed me off.
