The people at Coastal Eye Care in Astoria are extremely nice. I saw Dr. Thorsen and was very impressed. He is friendly and very knowledgeable. He did a thorough eye exam and answered all my questions. Everyone, from the front desk receptionist to the super nice tech to the doctor were friendly, patient, knowledgeable and professional. I was referred here for a refraction by an ophthalmologist. They waited until the day of my appointment to call and tell me that they can't just do a refraction, even though I had a full exam three weeks ago. They wanted to do another full exam (and charge me for it). Also, they couldn't see me at the time we scheduled and I'd need to come later in the day. I was already driving! I moved appointments of my own and had to use vacation time. Hugely inconvenient. This feels like a very disorganized way to do business and I will let the referring provider know how unimpressed I am. I would have been fine making the change if they had given me even 24 hours notice - which they require patients to give them. read more

Dr. Thorsen listened to my symptoms and was able to explain in terms I could understand. He also walked me through the plan to find out exactly what my eyes need, whether it's just drops or maybe something more. I definitely don't mind if my future appointments are with him. read more

Really nice folks here. My condition required the services and skills of an ophthalmologist rather than an optometrist, but I was impressed with this clinic for what they were able to assist me with and their quality of care. Awesome front office people who are very friendly and professional. Dr. Thorsen was kind enough to see me after hours on an urgent care referral and took his time with me. Even called after I had been sent along to hospital expressing his concern. Really good guy. Dr. Knutson, who properly diagnosed my issue and got me into the hospital right away was so sweet and kind. Very knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate. Not to be inappropriate, but her outer beauty is a true inspiration to make you want to heal your eyesight as well. Gorgeous!!! (wink). I've had many experiences with this company just wanting to make a buck any way possible. However, because if the selection of glasses I had always put up with it. However, I recently took my son to get a new contacts lens prescription. He has been wearing contacts for over 2 years. Upon completion of exam I was told I had to pay $135 cash for them to release his prescription. Their reasoning was he needed a training. Again he has been wearing contacts for over 2 years, a training was not needed. So after charging my insurance for the exam, they also expected me to pay over another hundred dollars to actually get his prescription.
