Starting with my appointment setter, she knew I wanted a color correction and scheduled me with, "the color specialist". So had a special occasion that I wanted to look my best for. She spent the better part of 30 minutes explaining to me all the ways she couldn't help me. I said I was very flexible about what color it turned out to be. I got there 15 minutes early as they requested. And I walked out with nothing having being done to my hair. No blending, no highlights, no low lights, no silver lights. Nothing. I've never been turned down before. And I've colored my own hair for the better part of 30 years. I know it can be done. And I believe since the appt was at 6:00pm she just wasn't interested in working late. Perhaps color specialist is a little too much of an endorsement. My daughter's hair takes so much time (she has very long, very curly and fine hair that is bleached and then dyed pink) Jessica is conscientious and hyper-vigilant to protect my daughter's hair during the bleaching process, as it is very delicate and easily damaged. I think they were excited when they heard and saw I had "virgin" hair after it not being touched in 2yrs (due to a very ill family member). It came out amazing. First time visit and it was a great experience! I literally called yesterday for a next day appointment and to my surprise, there was one slot available for a color retouch and cut. Upon arrival, I was promptly greeted and escorted to my stylist, Danielle, who was super sweet. Danielle asked me a few questions, took a look at my hair/texture (I have really long thick hair) and quickly went to work. The color touch up was spot on, the products used on my hair were amazing and I loved the finished look/results. The cut wasn't too drastic - chest length and my hair feels super silky. I decided to buy the Kerastase shampoo and conditioner for a little indulgence at home in between visits. I don't cut my hair too often but looking forward to my next visit with Danielle when the time comes. She used great care in cutting my hair. She cut my bangs exactly as requested - taking off a bit at a time to avoid making them too short. Since I'm an equestrian who wears a riding helmet, my bangs have to be shorter than many people may want. Also, I didn't want the length of my hair to be too short because I pull my hair back into a ponytail before I ride. Alexandria shampooed my hair. Recently went in for a blowout for my daughter and didn't like the service. The person didn't pay attention to the requirements and did a very mediocre job and when I asked for some adjustments to make it look better she said she could but she doesn't have time. Another lady helped my daughter and it worked out in the end but we wasted the first one hour with the lady needlessly using lot of products and treating the hair to lot of heat via blower for an entire hour. One of my favorite salons! Everyone here is so nice, but I particularly love Nicole who is a talented and fun stylist. Having recently moved to Austin I found Cobalt Blue and Nicole and will still go to this location for their services despite moving to a different part of town. I've been getting my hair colored for 15+ years and she has been one of my favorite stylists who understands my hair and how it responds to treatment. My daughter has very long, crazy thick, curly hair. She doesn't like to get it cut because her last cut was done by someone who said she specializes in curly cuts but didn't have a clue how to cut her hair. It was very uneven and my daughter being very into hair, makeup and fashion was in distress from this cut. We went to Cobalt Blue yesterday and Kylie cut my daughter's hair. Well I wish I could tell you about my haircut experience, but I wasn't able to get that far at this salon. I called and scheduled an appointment. They called me to tell me that the stylist I was set up with was actually out on maternity leave. So I called back to reschedule. I was rescheduled, but didn't receive any reminders. I did get reminders for my old appointment. So I ended up missing my very much needed haircut appointment. I get a call 30min AFTER my appointment would have been, only for the staff to tell me they were going to charge me $73 for a no show appointment. I have never missed my haircut appointments, EVER!! I had seen this salon... because I frequently go to the nail salon next door - which I love by the way - and I thought I should try out the hair salon. So first you mess up my initial appointment, then do not send correct reminders, and then call me 30 min after my appointment to just take my money. And I didn't even get my haircut. I knew there was a reason I had hesitated to call this place . I was a new potential client... but I will never call this place again. I'd be careful trying to make an appointment here. Seems to me like they just want to easily get your money with their ridiculous appointment policy they have in place. read more

I'm not really sure why this place has such high reviews.. I was not impressed at all. I visited last October, I waited long to post my review because I got a cut specifically to grow out my hair, and wanted to give the cut I got a fair chance before I yelped about it. When I called I was informed of their tier system. Basically the higher you pay, the more experience stylist you get, but because there was such good reviews I figured I'd give them a shot. I come in, and was greeted kind of awkwardly. I was then asked if I wanted a drink, I said no, and continued to wait. BUT FYI, I learned AFTER I paid that they do a "salon service fee" of 2.50, which isn't a lot, but I was never informed of this, and I'm assuming where the drink comes into play. Canned cokes with a KOOZIE by the way. Classy. About 15 minutes after my appointment time I was called back by my stylist (Courtney, Stephanie, I don't know, can't really remember) and she was very off putting, I guess because I wanted a pixie to cut off all my damaged hair (I've had plenty of pixies in me life) and she didn't seem to want to do it. I even INFORMED the receptionist when I called I wanted to get a pixie, and wanted somebody that was willing, and knew what they were doing. But, of course the entire appointment I was judged by how I use to treat my hair, and told "if I hadn't of dyed it so much I wouldn't have needed to cut into a pixie again." Great. She just was very stand offish, and that alone made me feel awkward. Secondly, I wanted my pixie, and she kept saying "since I've had them before she will do it, but if I hadn't before she wouldn't dare give me one." Okay. Thanks for your input. I'm assuming code for I've never done one before. Who knows. But she kept trying to talk me out of getting one. Throughout the entire appointment she's asking me a ton of questions on how to cut it, what angle, what size blade, blah, blah, blah, which I normally don't mind, but I also showed her a picture of what I wanted, and she said "a picture doesn't mean anything." Okay? I'm just giving you a idea of what I'm looking for. All in all I realized she's never done a pixie before, and was asking a ton of questions because she didn't know what she was doing. I know there is a tier system, but I choose the tier of somebody whose been a stylist for 4-5 years.. I can't imagine I'm the only person she's ever given a pixie too. Anyways, she decided to cut the hair around my ears a certain way to make it "grow out better." I found it odd, but she was the stylist, so she knew better.. Now this brings to me why I waited to make my review, and not try to be judgmental on the service alone... 9 months later because of her decision to cut it specifically around my ears the way that she did it I look like I have a Dutch boy bowl cut, and a mullet growing from the back. Now, you can say, "well you could have gone somewhere else while growing it out." Sure, I could have, but I've had lots of pixies, and grown my hair out from them, and have never had this awkward grow out before. Also, I paid in cash (this haircut was 72 bucks by the way) and I handed her 80 to tip the hairdresser, and from what I'm use to they give you the remaining change to give to your stylist or to put away from them, but she just stuffed the 80 in the drawer, and went onto the next customer. So, sorry Courtney, Stephanie, or Tiffany, whoever you were, I did tip you if you didn't get it. ‍ Side note--This is probably petty, but the main thing I took from this stylist was her attitude. This moment has always stuck out in my mind (like I said maybe I'm petty) but when she took me back to wash my hair she asked if I wanted the seat lowered more, and I responded, "it doesn't matter, whatever works best for you." And I'm snapped back with "Yes or no, doesn't matter doesn't help." I probably should have left then because that was probably the nicest tone she had given me throughout the entire appointment believe it or not. Lol. All in all I'm pretty upset I paid this much for a cut that wasn't that good, and with no hair styling inexperience in my life inform the hair stylist of how to do it, ontop of her attitude. She was telling me the next day she was going on vacation, so maybe she was just on vacation mode. I don't know, but for 80 bucks I should get at least some type of nice-ness. She is so down to earth and friendly, but above all she gave me a stellar cut and bomb highlights. It was inexpensive as well, around $100 for a haircut, partial highlights (extra color), and shampoo/conditioner, blow dry. I've been a client for a few years now. I found CB when a total stranger in Walgreens had really beautiful hair and I asked her where she had it done. Adrienne does a wonderful job with cuts and color. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The salon is spotlessly clean and comfortable. During a color treatment with my head in the washbowl for 20 minutes they even gave me a blanket. I have never seen or heard anyone express any kind of displeasure with their service and Adrienne guarantees cuts for 7 days. Color is perfectly done with a balance of both what you want and what is safe for your hair. I'm really disappointed and saddened that during my consultation before the color service I showed inspiration photos that were not even closely followed. I have had several balayages in the past and Courtney may not really know what she was doing. My hair looks almost exactly the same as when I came in. Usually a balayage takes 3-4 hours. I spent 1.2 hours for my service because it was a feeble attempt at a highlight. She didn't even do the back. The sections that she did were so small and left HUGE section completely out. My stomach is in knots because I was really looking forward to a good color. Now I have to find another salon to get what in actually wanted. I felt bad telling her that I hate my hair bc she was so sweet. It's similar look to one of this old school cap highlights from a box. I would have perfectly happy just being told she wasnt able or skilled enough to do what I wanted. This isn't a situation where my hair doesn't lift, is too dark or needed color correction.
