After the EF 2 tornado, I contacted Cochran about an estimate for an insurance claim, they were out at my house within 2 days, and provided me with a clear concise estimate with NO high pressure upsell. They returned to my home today and installed the replacement gutters as promised in the estimate/contract, which by the way, was LOWER than my deductible! I would NOT hesitate to recommend Cochran to anyone. The only reason I gave them 4 stars as opposed to a full 5 stars is because once my repair was scheduled, I had a heck of a time trying to "twist" a "guesstimated" time of arrival of the repair crew. During a previous home inspection (unrelated to Cochran Exteriors) gaps were found in our new home's siding. This is my son's first home, so he wanted to be sure things that were a problem were taken care of. After finding Cochran Exteriors on Angi, we submitted a request for service, received a text re: an impending phone call, and within a couple minutes we received that phone call.... wait for it....from a real life, friendly, HUMAN BEING. We were not sent through a million "press 1 for.... press 2 for..." options. We were able to quickly set up an appointment THAT WORKED FOR US in order for someone to come out and look at the siding and provide us an estimate. Jake called on the day of our appointment to inform us that he was able to get to us early (if that would be okay) YES PLEASE! He showed up to my son's Indiana home, was very thoughtful, walked around the entire house checking for any issues, identified the gaps, pulled the siding back together, and wished us a good day. NO CHARGE. Wow! He had driven an hour and didn't act as though we were idiots or had wasted his time. Buying a home is such an rollercoaster. Called Cochran Exteriors (Indianapolis, IN) for an estimate. They texted me several times reminding me about the appointment but then were over an hour late themselves. I only found out they were not on their way because I called them (Rep Scott Richards). He blamed his president for holding him up. I wound up never even meeting him but did get an estimate for repairs. It was over twice what I paid Red Sail Roofing to do the job which RSR did an excellent job. The sales rep came to my house and didn't bother to get on the roof to check out the chimney. He was knowledgable, but he tried to upsell me like a mother. This review is for a roof inspection and to create a priority list of things to do on our 1955 home. AJ from Cochran Exteriors came to our home today to evaluate the roof and gutters. From the start, AJ was excellent at communication. He called to get an idea of what I was looking for. He confirmed the appointment again on the day of. He showed up on time. We had a conversation about what I was concerned about and he got to work. After he did his inspection he came inside and checked out the attic and then we discussed his findings. AJ explained everything perfectly with pictures that went along with the findings. We went over roofing, insulation, painting, gutters, ventilation, repairs that need sooner attention, and priority of items that we need to address after the immediate. Don't trust them. They got halfway through a job before they realized they did not have the correct materials to proceed, stopped work and wanted another $2.6k before proceeding. The thing is they would have known from the first soffit they removed that they needed more money to proceed, they didn't stop though, they ripped everything off my house then demanded more money. read more

Homeowner was eventually informed of damage to soffit and fascia framing boards. Additional Work Order would be drawn up to fix the damaged framing boards. 8/11 - Framing for Fascia and Soffit Work Order received and signed. Homeowners understood the required work and additional cost. 8/14 - Homeowners received a message from Cochran Exteriors central office stating work on the roof (weather permitting) would start on 8/16 and that a "roll-off dump trailer" would be on site for debris removal. 8/15 - Crews showed up to work without prior communication. Debris was piled in the Homeowners' backyard. Most of the actual roofing was completed on this day. 8/16 - Crew returned to finish work on the roof. Piles of material and debris were left. *Somewhere in here the Homeowner was informed that if Cochran Exteriors did not replace the skylight, any future issues surrounding it would not be guaranteed. While this should have been communicated at initial signing, Homeowners understood the policy and agreed to sign the additional Work Order and pay the additional price. * 8/18 - Homeowners reported several "punch list" items that had not been completed or needed to be rectified (damaged J-trim, missing J-trim, soffit pieces not aligned correctly) to Project Managers. Homeowner also mentioned only the South side gutters were replaced, Project Managers thought the South Side gutters were the only ones on their work order. Investigation found the contract stated "Replace All Gutters". Project Managers had to schedule a Saturday crew to come in, as the work order they received did not state the North Side gutters also needed to be replaced. 8/19 - Gutter crew was on site for North Side gutters replacement. 8/21 - Homeowners sent another reminder to the Project Managers regarding the Punch List items, which had still not been fixed despite crews being on site after they were reported. Went to the website for a quote inquiry, plugged in my personal information, and a few short minutes later received an email from HOVER requesting that I take of few photos of my property. Cochran Exteriors uses the HOVER app to generate measurements with my smartphone. Anyhow, I decided against using HOVER, but the emails kept coming in a flurry. Use of this app should be a notification on the page for quote requests to give homeowners a heads-up. Then, I started receiving emails from Cochran regarding a roof quote, but my inquiry was for siding and gutters. Lou Granados kept referencing my roof, like three times. Even the estimator David Higgins reached out to me and referenced my roof. Clearly, there is a gap in communication, because my request was not read thoroughly, and they were not communicating effectively with each other. I guess Cochran was pushing for roof updates, because it's a big money maker. Anyhow, prior to David Higgins coming out, he said their minimum cost for siding is $1,500 -- no less, but they'll probably have to replace the entire siding. Again, this was prior to seeing my home. He also stated that gutters have to be replaced entirely as that is part of company policy -- all an assessment before seeing pictures or coming to estimate. Finally, when David Higgins came out, of course he found issues with my roof and quoted over $17K. He sounds like a classic used car salesman upselling me on things that I do not need. I have really tried not to do this because we really liked our sales person. They tell you they have crews but this is not true they are subcontracting everything. This causes delays and miscommunications. I have had nothing but issues with Cochran. We hired them to do roof, gutters, garage doors and windows. All had issues with each installation and timing, after many phone calls and emails they did repair and refund some money. Now after waiting a FULL YEAR for the windows we orders, the windows were installed with sub quality windows, NOT the windows we ordered or paid for. I can not get them to call me back. Beware of hiring Cochran Exteriors. I will never recommend them. There are plenty of other roofing companies. The entire process took 5 months from Sept to the end of Feb and 4 visits. The staff was friendly and nice but they don't care about the finishing details such as siding alignment and gutter covers. After 5 months everything was fixed except the covers which I just noticed after paying in full. Billing was odd and I was charged over $800 for 4 sheets of plywood, several 1x4s and labor to replace. After complaining they did reduce it some without specific explanation. The covers were damaged pushed down every 8 feet or so which I fixed myself. But not every homeowner is comfortable to do that on a two story house. This company is doing renovations at my apartment complex in Fort Wayne. Although they might do good work they don't finish the job. Meaning leaving numerous hazards all over the parking lot (nails and staples) as well on the yard were my Service Dog walks. Then leaving tripping hazards such as felt rolls and sheets of plywood with little or no regard for the residents. Last but not least - leaving their trailer of debris in the parking lot where our children could get hurt which is totally unprofessional. When I did roofing jobs for Local 6 in Illinois I always made sure it was clean and safe before I left the job site. Had new windows and doors put in on July 24th Sliding door was not the right size after being measured 3 times. The installer rigged the old door back in. It wouldn't slide correctly and I threw my back out and had to see a doctor and go for physical therapy now. The new door was supposed to be in end of August. I send emails to find out what is going on and nobody responds. I send message to my sales rep about the whole situation including my back injury and someone gets back to me. The door will be in Friday and we will install Saturday...call on Friday they have the wrong size door again. I'm assured because of my troubles I will be taken care of. The distributor made the mistake and will have to eat the cost of the door and labor now because of the issue. Door was to come in at the end of September nobody calls. I reach out...October 3 doors in and the correct size and will install on Saturday. The right door installed finally and I get the full bill!! Then a few days later oh we'll take $1000 off your $32000 bill for your troubles. If the mistake had happened once yes that would be appropriate but twice!!! And the fact I was told I wouldn't have to pay for the door or labor it was on the manufacturer! Will never use them for another thing and have told all my neighbors, because we had storm damage to roofs and sidings, not to use them. After a tree fell on our house, we got quotes from several companies on a partial roof replacement, gutter repairs and interior repairs. After meeting with the sales rep, Todd, and reading through reviews we decided to go with Cochran. Within a week we had signed a contract with them and that's where everything went downhill. The contract said they would start within 1-2 weeks and the work would take 5-6 days to complete. Cochran said they would handle all the insurance communications for us and said they submitted a supplement request for some things insurance missed. For 2 weeks we kept checking in and Todd kept telling us that insurance was holding things up and they couldn't start until insurance processed the supplemental request. Finally we called insurance to see where the holdup was only to find out that Cochan never submitted the supplement. Instead of any kind of apology or offer to remedy the situation, Todd said "Well, I guess I'll take the blame for this since it's our company" and basically just blamed everyone else. The supplement was approved by our insurance the following day, and I had to call Cochran every other day to get the work scheduled (this was March and the giant holes in our roof were draining energy and letting in water). We signed the contract on 3/2, and we were finally able to get a start date of 3/23. The day came, and to no one's surprise the crew never showed up. I contacted our sales rep again and found out that the crew actually went to the wrong house, tore the roof off the wrong house, then realized that they didn't have the materials to replace that roof (because ours was only a partial repair). It was another 5 days before they came out to start the work on our roof. The roof crew was actually good and did a great job on the repairs. It took another 20 days to get a crew to start interior repairs and 25 days for them to start work on the gutters (only after calling, texting and emailing them every other day again), They messed up the drywall repairs and no one on the crew (including the superintendent) noticed it until we did and had to ask them to come out and look at it and point out all the mistakes. When they job was done they sent us a certificate of completion asking us to sign that we were satisfied with the work and that we owed them a large amount of money. When I asked for an itemized bill it turned out they were overcharging us by $600 and I had to ask them to send a revised invoice. Overall it took 8 weeks and a ridiculous amount of follow-up and frustration on our end to get a halfway decent repair job. I would never recommend this company to anyone. They brag all about their great reviews on Home Advisor, but at no point during this process did anyone act like these mistakes are unusual. We hired Cochran to replace some trim and two exterior doors on a new house we bought in April. They just finished the work in October. After the initial salesperson got us to sign the contract, the communication was terrible. I literally called them every week (sometimes more than once a week) for several months, just trying to get someone to tell me what was going on. It felt like my second job. No one would return my calls. After I texted the number I had saying that I was going to leave a bad review, Dawn called me and said she would be on top of it from now on, and I could call and talk directly to her. That also didn't pan out. I continued to have trouble getting in touch with them and figuring out when work would be done. And when I called and asked to talked to Dawn, she wasn't available and rarely actually called me back. The experience of dealing with this company was so bad that it would have been funny if it wasn't so stressful. I would not recommend them to anyone. I must say that the actual tradespeople were professional and did good work (when it was finally scheduled), but the lack of organization, communication, and planning was unlike anything I've ever experienced. read more

Do not use this roofing company. I had brand new roof put on by them. Has couple shingles come loose / unseated and was denied warranty work. Contacted shingle manufacturer and found out the shingle were not installed properly. Shared with Cochran but the still denied. They want over $1000 to reseat two shingles. I am still within warranty period but they will not make honor their warranty. Then, he bragged about making all of this money off of stealing customers from other companies after a tornado. Wanted to replace the whole roof. Didn't hear back for a while, then sent me the quote. Recommend: No Summary of my opinion: - poor project management - excessive delays in work start and completion - little respect for customer - if you do move forward, negotiate (I) financial penalty for delays, and (II) ability to terminate for contractor uncured breach, without further financial recovery for their materials or labor rendered. Details: Our experience mirrors that other recent negative reviews found online. In our case, Cochran Exteriors was hired to replace rotted soffit and fascia in three areas up on the second story level of our home. One of the areas also included some water damage to the roof decking over an enclosed eave overhang. The contract included replacement of 25 ft of seamless gutters expected to be damaged during removal to access the fascia boards. The estimated work duration in the contract was 1 day which included approximately half a day for the roofing/trim crew and remaining balance of time for the gutter crew. Initial down-payment was provided on Aug 4 and the retail contract agreement specified projected start date of 3-4 weeks from project approval and down-payment. Early status update from project coordinator seemed to indicate materials were not even ordered until nearly three weeks after project start date. Another month later on Sep 30, two pallets of material were delivered and dropped in the grass adjacent to our driveway. Roofing / trim crew were supposed to start following day but did not show up as scheduled. No advance communication of the delay to start of work. After this point, repeated scheduled and missed start dates pass. I eventually had to relocate building materials that were not water resistant (e.g. OSB sheet) and other trim boards off of pallet and into my garage. I also had to drag second very heavy pallet with shingles, roofing membrane etc. onto and up driveway because pallets sat so long they were killing grass. Roofing/trim crew finally showed up on Oct 13. However, when reviewing the scope of work with the crew, it was determined the work order was not written with sufficient clarity and the crew were instructed to leave. Another week passes before Cochran rep finally followed up and agreed to common understanding of scope of work. Several more slides in the start date occur. Crew finally arrives to complete the work on Nov 6, 95 days after down-payment and 37 days after materials were delivered and remained sitting in front of house. Roofing and soffit repairs were finished after about 5 hours. After completion of the roofing and soffit work, the roofing crew foreman contacted scheduler at my request to confirm that gutter crew would be on site in the next few days. After a week with no communication passes, I reiterated to production coordinator via text that gutter crew needs to come with urgency as any significant rain leads to water intrusion in our basement if gutter is not present. Much to my dismay, rain on evening of Nov 14 caused water to seep into basement which I then had to clean up next day. Sent angry text. Gutter crew finally arrived with appropriate materials to complete the job on afternoon of Nov 16 and finished the installation the following morning. While sub-contracted crews were courteous, professional, and did reasonable quality work, project management at Cochran is not good. Unable to plan and manage work to schedule. Communication is sparse with no apparent regard given to impact of schedule delays on customer. Calling the office is futile as the production coordinator was always unavailable to speak. No obvious means to escalate concerns. Wrong size and poorly color matched gutters were specified in the initial bill of materials. It is ridiculous that a job requiring approximately 8-10 hours of total combined crew time took 105 calendar days (versus projected 30 days) to actually get scheduled and completed all while sitting on initial down-payment. read more

I had a couple neighbors get a new roof and I needed a new roof. I saw the Cochran Exteriors sign and called for an estimate, on June 23, 2021. I started the experience on July 6th at 10:00 AM, after taking the day off work for this appointment, I was called and asked if I could reschedule. When i refused they sent an assistant Brian, He was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. My main concern was getting roof completed before it turned cold, I was assured the work would be done in two to three weeks after contract and half my money was received. After many phone calls I accepted a contract on August 23, 2021. My project was submitted to "Production" after my 50% was paid on August 30, 2021. I received a letter on or around September 29, 2021 informing me that my project had been accepted into "Production". I received a couple calls from my salesman explaining that my home does not meet code and they have a waiver of warranty on my roof they need signed because of it, and they are not a drywall company and they need a release of any and all liability of interior work performed on the installation of a Sun Tunnel in my home. When I objected i was informed it would just make the process take longer. I signed the warranty waiver (with objection asking for my money back), I was informed a cancellation fee would be in place, however, I did I refuse to sign the drywall waiver. My "salesman" called a couple more time (speaking negatively) about production but they needed picture of my attic and pictures of a weather vein on my barn roof. (re-roofing my home and barn). He showed up almost 10pm to take pictures. From that moment on I did not hear from Cochran, on November 1st I received a "TEXT" from Cochran wanting to schedule my roof on November 22, 2021, to reply "C" to confirm. I was appalled after waiting several months, I receive a text and not a phone call. The materials were delivered on Friday the 19th, Monday morning, November 22, 2021, I had approximately 12 people show up at my house before daylight, parking in m and my neighbors front yards, No one came to my door and they began tearing my roof off. I did have two gentleman come to my door and not speaking English at all pointing at my garage, I opened the door and they saw I did not have a vehicle parked in the garage, they began nailing a tarp up hammering nails into the garage door frame. After watching for a while i approached a gentleman and asked if he spoke english and was immediately greeted with a huge attitude and informed he was also hispanic. He informed me he did not work for Cochran Exteriors, he was a private contractor and he was contracted to do my roof. Later in the morning I received another knock at the door to find two different gentleman holding a phone showing me a picture of a Sun Tunnel and they were pointing inside my home, (they did not speak english either). I let them in and showed them where it was to be installed. I was standing in the front yard a couple hours later, and a gentleman approached and asked if i was the homeowner and I said yes, you must be the Job Superintendent, he advised no his guys were the ones installing the Sun Tunnel and they have a problem. We went inside to find out what was going on, we discovered that the tunnel was too short and they needed more materials to finish. He immediately got on the phone with the local supplier to see if he could find more tunnel tubing, while talking on his phone on speaker the supplier informed him they have all sun tunnels in stock and keep them in house with plenty on hand. ( I was told the six week delay was waiting on the Sun Tunnel to be delivered) . He then left to retrieve the materials needed. He was helpful and knowledgeable, but he was not my job superintendent. As they were finishing the job there were several items not satisfactory, i reached out to the Sun Tunnel worker and expressed to him what was wrong and he was able to get a couple of them addressed. Later that night after 8:30pm i get a knock at my door and the same two gentleman are standing there holding a ladder and a clean cloth, they were there to clean the debris and leaves they left inside the sun tunnel. I received another "TEXT" from Cochran Exteriors asking if I was satisfied with the completed work. I have yet to hear from them, While I don't have a problem with the quality of work performed, there was NO communication, I was never contacted by anyone after they got their 50% deposit and felt I was lied to on several occasions. It also took 152 days to get the work completed and my number one concern became reality as the work was completed on the coldest day. Their salesperson was excellent (justification for 2 stars), but downhill from there. Job was soffit/fascia repair with gutter board replacement and new gutter and downspout along one side of house. Installers were no-show, no-call two days in a row and 4 hours late on the third day. They arrived at dusk and finished in pitch black darkness. Upon inspection the following day I discovered a job a 6 year old would be proud of. They did send another crew out to clean things up and they were much better and at least my gutters drain properly and the gutter to downspout seam does not leak--so, its now a functionally sound repair, however the shoddiness remains! read more

Repeated months long delays. Little to no communication when work was going to begin, despite calls, messages, and texts from us. Over the months it took to complete the work, most days we weren't kept informed if workers would be there or not. More than once we were told not to expect workers, only to have them show up or told to expect workers and no one showed up. They left 3-4" wide gaps between the stone and the windows. They reconnected electrical using siding tape instead of electrical tape, used the wrong size flashing behind the lights, looks terrible. They sent someone to make repairs, they didn't repair everything. After they completed the window install, we noticed one window not done. They said someone forgot to order it. No one ordered it during the week long install, we had to call the salesman to get this ordered and months later it was installed. We had miscommunication paying the last 5%, on both sides. After mailing a check, they said they never received it, they said a salesman would come by. That was three weeks ago. Today they reminded me to mail the check or they could send a salesman, as if all of our previous conversations never occurred. Very frustrating process over nearly a year to get windows and siding installed. read more

I can accept being 15 - 20 late to your initial appointment. However, I draw the line at not knowing the products you sale even if you have only been with Cochran Exteriors for two years. I saw more deer in the headlights looks in that conversation with their sales rep than I have driving country back roads from here to Canada at night. I cannot speak to the value or quality of their products because I never received a quote and their sales rep could not tell me anything about their products short of how they opened or closed. If you want to earn my business/money it will take more than an inadequate elevator pitch and an unprepared sales rep in a polo w/ your company logo. read more

Scott Leigh gave us an estimate and acted as liaison with the company throughout the process. He found hail damage to our roof and siding on one side of the house, and volunteered to come back out when our insurance adjuster came. He did a great job of explaining the process, and Cochran worked directly with the insurance company to help get work paid for. Cochran did a great job replacing the roof and installing ridgeline vents. They dragged their heals about getting replacement siding, new guttering, downspouts, and gutter guards installed. I understood that they were using the good weather to work on other folks' roofs, but they didn't communicate with us for several weeks after the roof went on. When a subcontractor finally came to do the remaining work, there was a totally honest mistake in communicating with them what needed to be done. They did a great job replacing siding, and Cochran even approached our insurance company about paying to bring the siding up to code with under-siding wrap. But although they gave us new downspouts and the gutter guards, they neither replaced the gutters nor the wood backing along one of the gutters where water seepage had caused the wood to rot. I felt like most skilled workmen would question the directions to put new gutter guards in nasty old gutters, and nail sagging gutters back to rotting wood. When I contacted Scott Leigh about the oversight, he and Cochran moved quickly to get it corrected. Overall, the work Cochran did was excellent. Cleanup after the work was reasonably good ... no one could get ALL the little pieces of shingle that fell into shrubs and planting areas ... they cleaned up the majority of it. read more

Replace rotten siding? Be SURE you, personally, walk around your house with the foreman (not the salesman) pointing out and writing down ALL areas that need to be replaced. Put it all in writing before you pay anything. Don't assume the salesman is your go to person for getting something done. Up front, get the foreman's name and ensure you put every single detail in writing. Do this and you'll be fine. Have patience. read more

Requested a quote on gutters having been referred through Angies list and a friend. Immediately the attention was focused solely on my roof. In fact, the final quote was 40% than a local contractor, and DIDN'T include the gutters! Seems the high margin job was more important than the customer's request. I regret choosing Cochran Exteriors to replace my roof. Originally, Cochran was going to replace my roof and do some exterior woodwork/siding repair. We signed the contract and were ready to go when I was informed that my siding actually would need to be fully replaced and not be able to be repaired. The roofers left scratches on my back porch, a long scratch on the side of my house, and did a terrible job with the trim. I received an additional invoice for 12 sheets of plywood at $85 each. However, I had messages from the day of the installation that said "it will be more around 5-6 sheets total". Additionally, my contract said $65 a sheet. I would have been charged over $600 more if I didn't read my contract and paid attention the day of installation. They came back to fix the trim and some other issues with the installation and the man kept asking if I would leave them a good review so he could get "stars" and a bonus. He didn't seem to care that I was upset about the quality of the work and just kept asking for a good review. My trim was "fixed" and the quality of the work was substandard. The work was very very sloppy and I honestly felt embarrassed about how bad it looked. I sent Cochran a message with the photos of the trim on Nov 11. I sent a follow up message on Nov 19 since I didn't receive a response. They finally responded to me on Jan 10! This lack of communication happened all throughout my time dealing with them. I felt like I was pulling teeth trying to give a company my business! Even minor things like them not having my correct phone number took three emails before it was fixed. I regret giving Cochran my business. I wish I could have voided my contract with them. The only positive from this whole experience is that I know now to never do business with them. read more

This company has good people working their, but a lazy, no nothing, owner. Four professionals said the problem was with their installation. Ross Cochran refused to come out and look for himself, but he seemed to think all 4 other professionals were wrong. He bullied the BBB into dropping my claim. Not a good business to use if you want peice of mind with any repairs. read more
