The technician was a know-it-all type person that was on site for about 30 minutes and charged close to $500. The chimney inspection was totally inadequate/rip-off. . I have two fireplaces. He basically shined a light inside the fire box and made repair suggestions for relatively minor problems that he would correct for additional cost. The inspections lasted about 5 minutes total and was nearly $300 of the cost. He did not get on the roof and examine the tiles for cracks or the condition of the mortar. He informed me that my fireplace insert was out of compliance due to its age and he could not assist in pushing it back into the fireplace. This insert has worked perfectly for the last 20 plus years and no defects were found in it today. I asked if he had knowledge of wood burning stoves, and he replied only that he knows they are heavy. read more

Took about 3 weeks to get an appointment. Tech came and said fireplace was fine after he looked at it and turned it on. Tech said we could call for a year after service. Flame diminished about 20 minutes after he left. Called to ask about it. The arrogant, condescending gentleman that I spoke with was not helpful and really not interested in providing any kind of customer service. Said there was only so much they could do, but since they did nothing other than turn on the fireplace that was a ridiculous thing for him to say. I state this fact of being drug free because we an owner of a different company and his assistant come give me an estimate for the fireplace and it was obvious they were both high. Can't say enough good things about this company. The first week we moved into our home we noticed wet carpet in our bedroom from rain. Upon having a few people look at it everyone determined it was the chimney. We had one Mason company come out and quoted us for a full rebuild. We decided to get a second opinion from cinderbox even though they do charge just to come out to look at it. We did this because several neighbors told us how great this company was and their reputation seemed to be stellar in the Zionsville community. Mike came out and was so kind and professional on his first visit. He told us we didn't need a rebuild and gave us several options to do work ourselves or have them do it. He took his time and answered all our questions. We opted to have them do it along with a fireplace inspection and sweep. They just came out did the work and educated us about the fireplace in our home. We learned a lot and feel like we know how to safely use the fireplace now. He didn't try to up-sell us at all and even told us the chimney was very clean so we didn't need to pay for a sweep. Five stars for an honest, reputable, and thorough company. I am very impressed with this company and the honesty, knowledge, and service provided by Seth and Mike. I scheduled an appointment to have them come to our home to measure our remodeled fireplace opening (gas logs) for new doors. They arrived promptly, put on shoe coverings, and got right to work. In addition to thorough measurements and photos, they were extremely helpful in providing log maintenance tips, ways to improve fireplace warmth, damper information, and pilot light guidance. I had Cinderbox out to my home yesterday and it was a great experience. I received 2 confirming emails the day before and the day of. Apt was set for 10am, the crew arrived at 9:55am. Dressed in uniforms and very polite. The lead explained his background and certifications and the helper expressed how much he enjoyed working there. Seth was my technician and explained everything he was doing, checking, and would check outside before they were done. I was grateful that I only needed an inspection and that my fireplace is good to burn in this winter. After leaving I received a detailed invoice that included pictures and more details. From my initial call with Kathleen all the way through my appointment Cinder Box was on their game and exceeded my expectations. On December 16, 2016, two chimney sweeps from The Cinder Box of Zionsville entered our home to clean our chimney. While inside our home, each sweep was left unattended for periods of time while I was in the basement or outside. I then noticed that all the money from my wallet was gone. We contacted the owner of The Cinder Box immediately and filed a police report. Since then, our attempts to deal with ownership have been disappointing and unprofessional. Our letter to The Cinder Box remains unanswered. Both the incident itself and management's response were upsetting to us. We will never use The Cinder Box again, and in good conscience, would never recommend them to anyone. read more
