Pricy but good novelty chocolates for gifting. They have wide variety of liquor and non liquor chocolates for everyone's liking. The overall experience in the shop is average as they rush you to buying quickly than letting you decide. But one cannot blame them when you're making that much money. Husband and I visited this place during Octoberfest, and decided to get a few things. We got a selection of chocolates, of which we had a few whilst at the shop, still have a few more to have tomorrow. I only picked a variety of dark chocolates, they have a wide selection everything, from ganache, fruity chocolates, nutty chocolates to fudge. The few that we had were pretty good. We also had a dark hot chocolate each. Although it was good. It was a bit concerning watching the lady at the back make this, she used what looked like a plastic jug to heat milk in the microwave, then whisked in some chocolate using a blender in the sink. I hope they invest in a glass jug or get in a coffee machine that can heat up the milk, they should not be using plastic to heat milk in the microwave. They also didnt add any extras to the hot chocolate like whipped cream, or spice. So wouldn't get hot chocolate again. It's a shame, because otherwise this place looks like a clean, modern, professional chocolatier. read more

I am baffled by all of the 5 Star reviews for this establishment. We stopped in recently on the way to dinner and purchased an assortment of small candy and fudge. The price was excessive given the lack of size and quality. Even the fudge was tasteless. When it comes to boutique chocolate I use a well known national chain that has been around for over 100 years as the standard, and Vienna Coca does not even comes close. Today my daughter and I went for a walk on the trail and continued walking onto Church St. We popped into this candy store. We liked the charming decor that was full of scrumptious chocolates. So I asked the girl behind the counter for a sample; also saying that it was our first time in this shop. She was not nice and not helpful. She said "no". I wasn't expecting that answer, so I asked again thinking she misunderstood me. She replied "only OUR chocolate". I said yes please. She handed me a tiny stick dipped into their chocolate. She never asked me how I liked it or if my daughter would like a taste. An unpleasant experience. Even though we were unhappy with her customer service we ended up buying delicious chocolates. read more

Apparently they are too busy filling previous orders to wait on walk in customers. I was the only customer in the shop and 3 employees kept working on packing up orders. One looked at me several times when not watching the olympics on the big screen tv. I was never approached to be waited on until i was fed up an walked out. Maybe you have to call ahead or order on line. Maybe they don't need the local Vienna customers to stay in business. read more

Cocoa Vienna is wonderful! I have worked with them on 2 separate occasions. The first time was this past July. I had a vendor back out on me last minute for an event my company was hosting. I immediately went searching for a replacement and came across Cocoa Vienna. I called them at 2:00 PM on a Monday, I spoke with Sam, the co-owner and I explained my situation. Sam said he could absolutely help me get 150+ chocolates for our client event. Not only did he assist me by getting all of the chocolates prepared IN LESS THAN 72 hours, but he helped with the food pairing and they even decorated the boxes ready for me to pick up by Thursday evening. I was so impressed by Sam's kindness and willingness to help me. It really speaks volumes of how great this business is, not to mention their chocolate is phenomenal! We also just did a client event in this past Thursday. We had a sip and dip where the clients got to make their own chocolate. We were able to use the Speakeasy room and we brought food from an caterer and items we needed for the event. It was great! The Speakeasy room is the perfect size to do all kinds of things. Our group was about 12 people, but we had room for more if we needed it. Everyone loved the class and it was such a great time! Again Cocoa Vienna outdid themselves! I would most definitely recommend them for a fun chocolate making party or even as just a place to buy chocolates! read more

I tried these at a big Valentine's Day chocolate party with chocolates from all the top chocolatiers in the D.C./nova area. These were not as good as the other options. I enjoyed the store and the selection that they had but the chocolates themselves just weren't as good as I would have expected. Maybe if I had just stopped by and tried one of theirs without others chocolates at the same time I wouldn't have such a harsh reaction- but based on my first try of them, I wouldn't go back. read more

I didn't like the chocolates. I only like dark chocolate, but the ones in this boutique are too sweet. They put so much sugar in them that it doesn't even seem you are eating dark chocolate. That's too bad! Also, the chocolate in itself, the texture/consistency when in your mouth was not that great. Plus, they should pave their parking lot. As it stands right now, it is all covered with construction stones, and it is uneven. It is even a pain to walk on it. read more

I'm sorry, the place is great to have in Vienna and the store displays it chocolates nicely but I purchased the dark chocolate bar with sea salt and did not like the taste at all. It tasted like too much wax in the chocolate, kinda of like a store in Manassas that I use to buy bags of chocolate from called "Betty's Better Chocolates" that sold the molds where you could make your own. That tasted like wax to me too. Trader Joe's has better dark chocolate. The other thing is their prices are CRAZY HIGH which I'm sure has to do with the cost of rent on that street. I'm just telling you the truth. read more

My office has used them several times over the past few months and I have used them for personal projects. What a find! My son loves chocolate and here is a cute chocolate shop. He was in a bad mood, and I made him come here with me, and he saw that they made hot chocolate. Despite it being a very warm day in April (unusual this season), he still got the hot dark chocolate and a smile finally came across his face. Admittedly the chocolate was not that hot, but maybe because it was such a warm day, they chose not to make it too hot. There were many things he wanted to try, and being peanut allergic, he still had options. A woman came in and bought sugar fee dark chocolate almond bark that looked really good. She said she can't keep it in her house because even if she buys it for herself, everyone else keeps eating it. We would definitely come here again for a treat. read more

We've been customers of Cocoa Vienna since they opened and absolutely love all the chocolates although I wish they were open a little bit later in the evenings as we commute from work and have to rush to try to get there before they close last evening was just the case when I called ahead and asked that he wait five minutes for us that we were five minutes away and he replied and said we've been here since 8 o'clock this morning I understand people work long hours but it's the holidays and all I did was call and ask you to stay for five more minutes I think it was really poor customer service now is very disappointed. read more

We are experienced septuagenarian chocophiles...and hard to please. Cocoa Vienna's offerings are as good as you will find in this area. Better than anything you will buy in a box. Chocolate is rich, buttery. Flavors are well-attended and have staying power. A little goes a long way. We were pleased. read more

Cocoa Vienna is a neighborhood gem! When you walk towards and then into the store you are transported back in time to a time when Mom & Pop stores - with their owner-driven stellar customer service - were the norm... The chocolates are wonderful tasting, and the specialty designs are creative and inspiring... I find the perfect gift is a box of the truffles (of which they have tons of variety) along with a specialty chocolate design... they have chocolates shaped like high heels, carpenter tools, computers, etc.. I've learned to buy a few extra since I end up snacking on the way home ;-) The staff is friendly and bend over backwards to make sure that you walk away smiling... they host private parties in the evenings, where they will show you how chocolate is made and allow you to try your hand at making truffles (much harder than it looks) as well as chocolate bars... we had 10 people at our event and it was perfect... everyone enjoyed the unique experience, learning something new, and of course eating chocolate... and it was very reasonably priced! read more

What's not to love? They took an iconic building on Church St. that was in disrepair, brought it back to life and filled it with fabulous chocolate. Everything about Cocoa Vienna is perfect--the beautifully re-done building, the swoon-worthy chocolates and the super-friendly owners. My husband had them make custom chocolates for a business campaign and as expected, they were a big hit. Over the summer, I took to bringing my boys in for the daily $1 treat. I became hooked on a specific chocolate bar at Whole Foods that sold out all the time. I walked into Cocoa Vienna last week, described it and was told to come back in 20 minutes. When I returned, there were three bars of chocolate, made just for me. (For the record, it's dark chocolate with sea salt and almonds--Best. Chocolate. Ever.). I'm so excited to have this gem in Vienna, it's exactly what our town needs. read more

This store has amazing customer service and really goes above and beyond. My grandmother is 93 and lives in Vienna and had requested a box of chocolates. I spent time trying to find a place nearby who could deliver asap and found Cocoa Vienna. I called and they helped me put together a box of chocolates that would be perfect for her and then they graciously agreed to deliver the box to the upstairs of her back deck so that she would not have to walk downstairs to get the order. They called me when they were on their way so that I could let my grandmother know that they were there and then when they suspected they had the wrong house, they called to verify the address. This store really went above and beyond and my grandmother couldn't be happier with her order (it was the highlight of her week). I would gladly recommend this store to anyone! I used to like this place but it's really expensive and truly subpar. Artisanal confections in mosaic is so much better. I got a few truffles that included the key lime and the chocolate covered toffee. Both were horrible, the toffee tasted like sugar water wrapped in chocolate worse than Hershey's and the key lime truffle filling was overly sweet and tasted like extract coated Betty Crocker frosting mixed with lard. It was almost chewy rather than buttery. The toffee was also stale. Take the trip to Tyson's for Godiva or go to mosaic. read more

Caught my eye while going to have pizza across the street The lady at the counter was incredibly nice and she was quick to strike up a conversation with us, acknowledging us even while she was with a customer before us. Too bad the chocolate is not good. I have given gifts of chocolates from this store a few times and decided to try it myself to make sure I was giving worthy gifts. So disappointing. I tried a peanut butter truffle and some milk chocolate and it had very little taste - it was actually bland. My son tried a piece and said it tastes just like the chocolate that comes from the advent calendars you pick up in the grocery store. This place is so overpriced that I am really annoyed I've spent good money many times in this store - no more. read more

Cocoa Vienna, as a chocolate store, has the most affordable chocolate I've been able to find in the DC area. A good variety of chocolate is available and I love that they had been introducing seasonal items as well. I've gone there often enough that the people working there recognize me! On December 16, I stopped into Cocoa Vienna on my way home from work at 6:40 pm, 20 minutes before closing time. I was the only customer in the shop and a polite young man behind the counter promptly asked if he could help me. I told him I was looking for 23 small boxes of chocolate to give as gifts to my office staff at our Christmas party tomorrow. Immediately, an unpleasant woman behind the counter barked at me in a rude, abrupt tone that she didn't know "if it was even possible" for them to help me as the shop closed in 20 minutes and I should have called in "such a large order ahead of time". I never even had the chance to explain that I was looking for small, prepackaged chocolates if they had any as she continued to hurl more comments at me as she was leaving that they were too busy at this time of year to have people just walk in and place large orders without having called them in first. Then she left the store without ever saying a pleasant or helpful word to me, including "hello", "good bye" or "thanks for coming in." Once the woman left, the nice young man behind the counter apololgized for the woman's rudeness and was very helpful in showing me prepackaged options that suited my needs. I told him I was offended by how poorly the woman treated me and asked him who she was. He replied that she was "Stacey, one of the co-owners," and while he apologized repeatedly for the woman's rudeness , he did say that she's "usually not like that but that the holidays are a busy season in retail." I thanked him for his apology but told him that I, too, am in retail and have never spoken to a client like that during the holidays or any other season. There is no justification for such unpleasantness in a retail setting, especially when a customer is simply trying to spend money in your store. There are too many other pleasant chocolate shops with delicious chocolates in the area for me to spend my money in an unpleasant one. read more
