It's ice cream in the heart of Old Town Fairfax! Woody's Ice Cream has been around for so long it's just a staple and a must visit when the weather gets warmer/hot. I wasn't here for too long but I got a small soft serve ice cream vanilla flavor with sprinkles on top. Nothing too crazy. The place was a bit packed with students and kids roaming around the indoor section but that's how you know when a place is good! Not sure why this place is so popular. Hidden away in the heart of old town Fairfax, the shop has a line out the door and patio was packed on a Thursday night. We waited in line for under 10 minutes for our ice cream order - 2 scoops. The staff was pleasant but the ice creams were both underwhelming. Could have come from a Turkey Hill tub if blind taste tested. They had the nerve to serve melted ice cream on the coffee toffee flavor. The store is pretty tucked away, but we did see one of their signs from the main road and decided to try it on a whim. I got a vanilla soft serve cone and it was basic, but good. I've wanted to try Woodys ice cream since my grad school days at GMU, but never really made the effort to visit before I took my 15 month old toddler here after the Old Town splash pad. There is a small space indoors, more outdoor seating. The inside has a lot of local sports memorabilia (HS and below). There are high chairs for both indoor and outdoor use. The service was frosty but I'm not going to dock High school kids that clearly look like this is the least exciting part of their day. The flavors seemed really unique and several were non-dairy. You can try up to two samples. They also have soft serve-chocolate, vanilla, twist. Cones and cups are available including specialty cones. I chose chocolate Oreo because I'm a sucker for chocolate overload. I ordered only a single scoop but it was huge. My daughter was more interested in people watching so I finished the ice cream myself. Very chocolatey and filled with Oreos. It's a popular spot and I'd happily return in the future. read more

The only nondairy flavor they had today was raspberry sorbet, which was tasty. Do they have great ice cream? My family says they do. Unfortunately I could not enjoy their ice cream. I came in one Sunday to grab a small treat. Because I have an unusual allergy, I asked about their ingredients of one of the flavors. They said they did not know what was in the ice cream. I shared that I had never been in a restaurant, even an ice cream shop that didn't have a list of ingredients somewhere. I would have assumed that maybe it is listed on the newer tubs in newer back. We came here for the first time yesterday for dessert after Mother's Day dinner. We had heard quite a few good things and wanting to try it for a while. My daughter's preschool previously did a fundraiser here (that we sadly had to miss) and she had been so excited to finally get try the ice cream her friends had been talking about. It was raining outside and the floor inside the restaurant, near the front door was so wet, slick, and slippery that my 5 year old daughter immediately slipped on the floor and fell face first, hard, busting her lip, with blood and tears going everywhere. She was crying, hard, rightfully so...and NOT a SINGLE employee came to help us or said anything at all while she was crying and blood was streaming out of her mouth...we did get plenty of rude glares from people who seemed annoyed that a small child was hurt and was crying but not even one person working there (and there were half a dozen from what I observed) said "is she ok?" Or "what happened?" Or did anything at all. Thinking back now, I'm not sure why we stayed and continued to give this business our money as that should have been the first big red flag/indicator that this place is a no-go. 10 min later, we get to the counter, and I nicely inform the employees that the floor inside the restaurant near the front door is really slippery, that my child did indeed slip and get hurt, and that they might want to put out a yellow sign warning other customers so they don't also fall/get hurt. What do they say? A simple "ok." No expressions of concern or empathy for the hurt, crying child next to me, or any showing of any human feelings whatsoever. Got it. This is not a child friendly establishment or one that cares about hurt/crying children or their customers in general. We continue to order. I got the coconut chocolate ice cream. It was freezer burned on top. My son got the chocolate peanut butter. It was only chocolate with no peanut butter. My crying daughter got the "dirt." It was vanilla soft serve with Oreo on top. We could have gotten the same thing from McDonald's for half the price. The ice cream was subpar. The experience was awful. We will never return 0/10. read more
