What a cute little comedy club, serving the St. Petersburg area. With the stage setup, it's an intimate club that's wider than it is deep. The comedians were all pretty funny and one was recording an album over a few nights that he was there. So if you keep hearing "man, that is sooo funny" on a comedy album in 2021, that's probably me. The staff was great and made sure I had my 2 drink minimum. It's next to a bar where all of the drinks (and maybe food) come from. It's reasonable in comparison to some, and across from a few resorts on the beach. It was about a 20 minute drive from town (with limited traffic), so plan accordingly. What a great spot! Awesome comedy club with a throwback vibe to comedy clubs of the old days. Great room, great stage, and overall a fun place to get some laughs. Bob and Cathy run the club and do a great job of making sure it's done right. Covid-safe protocols are in place, hand sanitizer is abundant, masks are required anytime you are not seated and eating or drinking, and seating capacity is limited. There is a doorway inside the club to an adjacent bar (everything is non-smoking, which I mention because some of the reviews from years previously indicated that smoking was an issue - it is not now). Overall a fantastic experience and if you're on the west coast of Florida or near Tampa and are looking for a fun night of comedy then this is the place! read more

I'd give it a 5 however the cover seems a bit steep. Considering how many people they had to serve in the amount of time they had, the staff was efficient and nice. The drinks were tasty albeit small. The comedians were AMAZING, and heckling was kept to a minimum. Overall, I was happy. read more

Was in town and wanted to do something during the week. It was a small intimate place. Been to a few small comedy clubs in a few cities and this didn't have a good line up. Was a little disappointed, usually the headliner would of stolen the show. Not sure if it was a random time of year or on a weekday. They had food/ appetizers from the restaurant next to comedy club. The food was ok but it was a bit of a distraction for the guest and the comedian when the food was in to go boxes/ containers and in a plastic bag. Wish we went into town or Clearwater for entertainment. read more

This place is definitely worth a look-see. I've been on a couple different nights and I'd say the talent was overall pretty decent. The drinks are adequately priced and staff friendly. Try to go on an ameteur night. Sometimes you see train wrecks, well actually mostly, but there are some w/ some nuggets of truly funny stuff. I will remember to this day a dead on Morgan Freeman impression and an X rated homoerotic retooling of the narration of The Shawshank Redemption that was outright hilarious. read more

I had a great time here and was disappointed at the drink prices since there is a two drink minimum. It's the oldest comedy club in Florida and has some big names come through! The staff was tentative and made sure your thirst was quenced. But holy cow is parking really a pain. They make you park across the street behind a 7/11 and it's this parking lot you ha e to enter and it's so easy to scrape your front end if your not in a truck. This was a great comedy club. My coworker and I spotted it during a conference we attended across the street. I called to get more information and they were very informative and welcoming, with a positive attitude. We had a great time and the customer service was excellent. I love going to comedy clubs, and I love this one, but it breaks my heart every time go. I have been to many Comedy Clubs but Coconuts is VERY hit or miss -something no comedy club should ever be. The cover is $20 each... where I'm from that's pretty standard, but in Florida that's quite expensive. Coconuts actually used to be located in the meeting room of a hotel, which at the time felt awkward, but I have to give them props for the new location... unfortunately that's where the props start and stop. Went there on a Friday night and since this place is also next to the sports bar of a hotel, there was literally NO PARKING. When we did finally find a spot is was down the long side alley of the building and was really inconvenient to drive in and out of. All in, the first time I went there, it was about a half full club and the comedy was pretty good. The headliner and MC are really the only ones you should expect to be really funny since many of the opening acts are local wannabe's who (nothing against them) found a great place to try out their bad jokes and see if comedy is something for them. -Again VERY hit or miss. The MC is actually pretty good, a guy named Chris. Seen him before and he reuses a lot of material, but overall is a very funny guy. Thank god he's there because without him, this club would be on life support. The other night there were 9 people. Yes, on a Friday night -9 people. My honest opinion is that unfortunately (for both the comedians and patrons), Coconuts is simply not a well run comedy club. The comedians will bring the funny if the Club Owners bring the people, but for a Friday night, to have 9 people is essentially guaranteeing a tough night for all (comedians, patrons, wait staff, and owners!). Some advice for the OWNERS of this club: #1 - Spend the $10K for a BIG ASS AWESOME SIGN that says nothing other than "COMEDY CLUB" --right now nobody is noticing you from any other place and your sign is easily lost among the many others on Gulf Blvd. #2 - Kill the "Drink Minimum" and instead come up with some "DRINK SPECIALS!" --we're in a recession guys... people want to feel like they're getting a good deal, not forced into a purchase when trying to get in a few laughs. The more you give, the more you get. The more they drink the more they laugh. #3 - Have themed nights! Have a filthy night, a family night, a magic night, a heckler's night -mix it up!!! Your crowds will come on the right nights and you can book your comedians more appropriately too... Comedians also love to know what kind of crowd they're gonna be working. Make everyone's experience easier. #4 - Get a real website and make everything less confusing. You have several locations and your website for both of them sucks. #5 - Stop treating this business like it's a well that you bleed dry every day... the well is drying up. Put some love back into your club or hire a manager who will, and give him 10% of the profit. #6 - Print up 10,000 cheap drink coasters and distribute them for FREE to every restaurant and bar in town (primarily the touristy ones)... the establishments get the free coasters and you get their customers after a meal and at least one drink down the hatch. -Have them printed with something like: "Come get your Laugh On... bring this coaster to Coconuts Comedy Club in St. Pete Beach for $5 off admission" --Foot traffic!!! #7 - Block off a section of the parking lot for your club, or hire a small valet team and rent a section of a parking lot across the street or within a block. Your biggest job is to make it easy for people to find and come to your comedy club. Become a marketing fanatic. You can make this an incredible comedy club if you really wanted to... but the big question is... do you? You have one of the best markets in the USA and you're the only comedy club in town. Maybe I should open one up here and do it right..... I'll be back later this year and will be happy to update my review... let's hope you take my golden advice. You'll be amazed if you do. read more

It was a good time they had 5 comics the first and last weren't really funny. The ones in the middle were hilarious I wish they had longer sets. The place is small but it creates a good vibe for comedy. Drinks weren't bad and were reasonably priced. The waitress was expedient. The food was nothing to write home about it was cooked well but didn't have much flavor. My suggestion make a reservation and eat before you come. read more

We are from Michigan on our yearly visit and decided to see what Coconuts Comedy Club had to offer. Unfortunately they fell very short of our expectations. Here are the reasons why: 1.) Coconuts is in the midst of moving to a new location...that's great! But...the show was held in a temporary location that was an old drab banquet hall. If you aren't ready to offer the customers a fully functional experience...cancel the show, or don't charge full ticket prices. Not only was the location bad, the room set up was even worse! From a line of covered wedding chairs lining the back of the room, to pinkand blue lights aimed to the ceiling, it was tacky! The stage was set up so that we are facing the bar and there were bright lights that were a distraction, not to mention that without wait staff, every time someone wanted a drink, they had to walk in front of the comedian. 2.) When we called to inquire about tickets, we were told there would be bar food to order...got there a few minutes early to order and were told there was no food....NOT HAPPY! We'd waited to eat dinner for exactly this reason. Had to go to Silas Dents downstairs and bring our $34 fish sandwiches packed in styrofoam to eat during the warm up acts. 3.) The 2 drink minimum is to be expected at most comedy clubs and we were ok with that, but...not a single server came to take our drink order. We had to go to the bar to get a cup of water in a plastic cup. Again, if you're not ready to offer full service experience, don't bother. 4.) The headliner Danny Bevins did a great job but I think even he was thrown off his game with the poor set up. The first warm up act, Kyle was decent. The 2nd warm up was so bad I can't even remember his name...I think I could have gotten up there and told jokes better than he did. If you are going to make racially charged and insensitive jokes, you'd better be damned good and he definitely wasn't. I think once Coconuts gets going again, they have potential but last night, you just wasted my money and time! read more

Comedy was ok. Only one good comic-The dairy farmer. The place stinks of smoke and sweet air freshener to mask over it. Had to take our clothes off as soon as we got home and leave them outside on the balcony! Would not recommend until they install some sort of air cleaning system. It is that bad! read more

My best friend and I visited Coconuts Comedy Club last night on 12/23. It was understandably slow since we are so close to Christmas but the performers did a wonderful job and were very entertaining. They really interacted with the audience since there were so few of us. The staff in the club were fantastic and that includes the woman who checked us in as she is always extremely friendly. After the show was over we went and sat at their bar next door for a drink. An obviously inebriated man behind the bar approached us, told us he was the owner, and asked if he had bought us a shot yet. I told him I wasn't interested in one but my friend said okay. He started interacting with the bartenders and being extremely rude to them. My friend said she didn't think it was appropriate how he was speaking to them and he went ballistic. We had already spent over $70 on tickets and drinks but he screamed at us with slurred speech that we were only there for free drinks. He then started screaming that he was on MTV once and knew Howard Stern. I looked around and noticed the other patrons were quiet and uncomfortable with the situation. If he truly was the owner of this establishment then it is extremely inappropriate to be so heavily drunk at work. I don't think anyone, employees or customers, should be treated like that. I will not be returning and will make sure to recommend that my family and friends don't support that man's business. read more

If we didn't get in for 1/2 price, this review would be one star. Emcee announced Coconuts Comedy Club has been on SPB for 29 years. It may be time to pack it up and move on. Old building next to smokey bar, which permeates into the club. We didn't get food, but food orders are delivered in Styrofoam boxes, in a plastic sack; classy. A group of 6 drunks disrupted the entire evening. The first comedian (guy from India) didn't know how to control them; on top of this, he was not funny at all. The other 2 guys were funnier and poked fun at them, but it got old as they fed off the attention. Mgmt spoke to them but it didn't stop. We left before the last 2 comedians did their sets. $16 for 4 club sodas plus $4 tip to pregnant server, $20 cover. $40 out the door, literally. read more

I'm not really a fan of stand up comics. After dinner, I decided to give Coconuts a chance. The decor of the club is exactly what I would expect and wonderfully done. There were several comedians that came on before the headliner. Some were much funnier than others. Overall, I enjoyed my experience there. On a side note, this is normally somewhere you go after dinner for cocktails and comedy. It is a bonus that they offer selected appetizers and/or dinners from an adjacent restaurant if you do want something to eat. read more
