These guys are just awesome! First time for a couple of us in the family and the experience was so enjoyable for the kids, they went back again a couple of days later to shoot the Gatling gun and get their t shirts. We were so impressed with the professionalism of the staff. They were so friendly and patient with us as we figured out who was shooting, what firearm we wanted to shoot and of course, instructing us. Came in as inexperienced shooters looking to shoot a couple guns. Jim (our trainer) helped us every step of the way and created an incredible experience. Ended up shooting two rifles and two hand guns and Jim instructed us through both. Jim was welcoming and created a very safe environment while teaching us a lot. He shared the history of each gun, what type of ammo he was loading and how he was loading it, and discussed a lot about the safety techniques used. We wished we could've signed up for the 8 hour all day class with Jim. Most of the employees seem to be retired law enforcement and military and their extensive experience and knowledge was very obvious. Thanks for creating a great time! read more

A must do in Cody. I paid for my 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter to each shoot three different guns of their choice. Each chose a pistol and a rifle and both shot the Gatling Gun. We also purchased souvenir t-shirts there for both kids which each personalized by shooting them full of holes with the Gatling Gun. The t-shirt support a large logo, "I Shot A Gatling Gun At Cody Firearms Experience." They are very cool souvenirs. They also got to keep a brass shell casing from each of the guns they fired. They also got to keep the large paper targets they used and the employees noted on the targets the firearms each used. The employees were welcoming, friendly, patient, knowledgeable, perfectly professional, and entirely focused on safety. They put you at ease right from the start by explaining the Firearms Experience options and prices. They allowed plenty of time to look at the scores of different firearms available for shooting and for each kid to pick the two they wanted to fire in addition to the Gatling Gun. They have an amazing array of firearms from which to choose including many kinds of pistols, shotguns and rifles, from the vintage to the modern. Firearms are nicely displayed in glass cases or along two walls. They answered all of our questions and were thoroughly knowledgeable about and explained each firearm. They required and provided eye and ear protection while in the indoor shooting range. They took their time explaining everything from the history to the mechanics to the safe handling of each firearm our kids shot. I thought the prices were reasonable for the experience. The more you want to shoot, the more it costs. This was a big hit with my teenagers, a major highlight of our 2019 family road-trip. It's one of the few things everyone really enjoyed. We walked in but you can also schedule a time to go. It's located just a mile or two west of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. My petite 13 year old daughter, who loves the movie "Quigley Down Under," was able to safely and comfortably shoot a Sharps rifle. This place rocked so hard. My friend and I were on our way to Yellowstone when we saw their billboard advertising the opportunity to shoot a gatling gun. We said what the hell and went for it. The staff is very knowledgeable about the history of the particular guns and walk you through the handling and firing of the guns you choose to shoot. Awesome experience!!! The staff was so knowledgeable and answered every question we had (and we had A LOT). After all of our questions, our party of 3 chose to try out 3 historical guns each. Not only did we get to shoot the guns at a target, but the staff gave us an on-the-spot history lesson about the gun, how it was created, why it was created, when it was used, etc. He explained the directions throughly and in depth before having each of us shoot a practice round (not live) to get the feel of the gun. He then asked if we had any questions, and reviewed the directions again. This time he test fired the weapon once then left the customer fire the weapon once. Once the procedures were clear we were given X amount of rounds (depending on the weapon) to shoot with the help and safety of the employee. My 14 year old son and I learned a ton about the history of firearms in the United States and had a great experience shooting historic firearms. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I had a limited experience with firearms and my son had absolutely none. We signed up for the 2 shooter, 3 firearms each package and had a general idea of what we wanted. The staff helped us refine our choices based on our comfort level. In fact, after shooting 2 rounds of the 1861 Springfield Rifle our instructor could tell my son was uncomfortable with the firearm and allowed him to switch to something he could handle. My wife and I are staying in Cody for the week and walked in to Cody Firearms Experience on a whim. I have grown up shooting while my wife had never fired a gun before. Junior was our range safety officer and couldn't have given us a better experience. For my wife, he was attentive to her concerns and gave her great instruction to make sure she was able to effectively fire the Glock 9mm. For myself, shooting the M1 Garand was great. Junior gave a great run down of the gun's history and operation. I had a great time going through a few clips and hearing the famous "ping" at the end of each. It's been over a year since I went to the firearms Experience but I thought their selections were amazing. I liked the instructions that they gave you on each gun and the explanation of the historical significance. I shot a Thomson SMG that they got when the US military sent tanks to Russia. The tanks came with 2 Tommy guns, but the problem was there was no ammo. The service was amazing and I hope to come back soon. read more

What a great shooting experience. Of course all my guys had to shoot the Gatling gun. You were able to buy a tshirt then shoot the Gatling gun at it, making holes, great keepsake. With three guys shooting different weapons it did take longer than expected, so plan accordingly. Bruce was our guide and he was very upbeat and informative.
