It feels like a true community space. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and everything runs so smoothly. Libraries are truly one of the best public resources we have, and Cody Branch does it especially well. One of my favorite things is using the mySAPL app to request books, and then getting the notification that they're ready for pickup. When I walk in and see my little stack waiting for me on the hold shelf, it feels like the best kind of VIP treatment. No searching, no stress! Just grab your books and go. It's a cozy, peaceful, and relaxing space. There are different sections for people of different age groups. For example, there is a children's section, a teen's section, and so on. Very good neighborhood library. I'm a regular patron and this is one of my go-to spot for voting and other civic duties. Selection is decent in books, magazines, and DVDs. Even better are the seating areas, parking areas, and bathrooms, which are all generous in size and well kept. Only negatives are that the staff seems a little overwhelmed (there are stacks of books that need reshelving) and the parking lot's oddly designed and confusing, especially when you have to enter and then turn around to drop off books. read more

I would not recommend this location for first-time users. As a new visitor, I was transparent about needing assistance with the printing process, yet the staff was remarkably unhelpful. Instead of providing clear, step-by-step instructions, I was repeatedly shuffled between employees, each directing me back to the other. Rather than addressing my technical questions, the staff chose to argue about my choice of hardware (phone vs. computer), which was entirely irrelevant to the core issue. The lack of communication and refusal to provide basic guidance made a simple task unnecessarily stressful. It is disappointing to see such a lack of professional courtesy toward someone clearly asking for help. read more

It is 4:27 pm and there were approximately 25 children in the library! It was more of a child care facility. I pay tax dollars to utilize the quietness of such a facility. I reported the loudness, running ng around and yelling to Teresa Garza , the manager on duty. Ms. Garza stated that this is a, "community " library. Is that what they are called now? Don't come here if you need quiet and concentration. read more

I absolutely love this library! It is the perfect place to come and study, tutor or just come and spend some time. In fact, I have been to this library for al of the above and more. I get most of my reading materials here, have come with my younger family members to those events, have gotten multimedia materials, etc. Cody is a smaller library and being next to an elementary and almost next to a middle school, makes it a busy library with the after school crowd. When it was fully open, it was difficult to find a spot to sit because of its popularity. A couple of years ago, it got a bit of a facelift, and the parking was also expanded a bit, but this is still a very popular library. It is also clean, nicely organized and its staff has been here for years. In my opinion, this is a pretty nice library to visit. read more

This is really nice suburban library serving a middle class neighborhood. It is clean and feels safe. I didn't see any homeless or vagrants that proliferate at other locations. It is a 2020 early voting polling location open to all registered voters. read more

My favorite library in SATX. It does help that it is in walking distance to me, and I love the nonfiction bookclub once a month!

This library is closest to me and it sucks I cant go. I went once and that'll be my last time. I'm only 20 and growing up I learned whispering was the only volume allowed in library's not in today's world, sounded like a mall. Kids yelling and talked very load, playing around and just plan all over the place. Wouldn't recommend sucks the librarians allow this behavior to happen. I've been studying here for the past couple of months and here are some pros and cons: pros: 1. close proximity to the med center 2. quiet room is available, and yes. it's very quiet. 3. the librarians truly love what they do! they are really excited to share their love for novels. 4. plenty of tables to study on 5. portable battery chargers on wheels to take to the tables 6. large dvd selection cons: 1. lots of children = noisy 2. small compared to other libraries like Maverick 3. sparse selection of adult books Clearly, the pros outweigh the cons so you'll see me hanging around. read more

Easy access has made the Cody Library my early voting spot this year. I voted earlier this year here and coordinated my schedule to early vote here on Saturday, too. Even though it's on my way home from work, I early voted both times on a Saturday due to the convenience. It's marked as one of the better spots to early vote because the lines are never terribly long. Yesterday I had a 20 minute wait, and the volunteers provided us with sample ballots. The lines went quickly, and check in was a breeze. All the volunteers were efficiently trained to escort us to our polling booth, give us a quick rundown of how the machines worked, gave us our stickers, and out the door we went. I've waited in longer lines at comic cons and I like to think of it as voting line training. Even though the Cody Library isn't my official polling spot, as long as I can do early voting, I'll continue to vote here. read more

Because it's right next to a school, you get quite a few kids in here. So you want the quiet room if you need to study. It's pretty small, so you might not find what you're looking for on the shelves, but you can easily place holds online, or with a librarian's help, and the books will be put on a shelf for you. There's interlibrary loans, too, for books not in the system. There are four self-checkout kiosks, and always plenty of staff at the front if you prefer. read more

Edmund Cody Library, aka Cody Library, is a pretty happenin' place. I mean, sure, they've got the regular stuff: books, movies, music. But they've also got movies and music! This cheery library looks smaller from the outside than it really is. The swooping inner ceiling also makes me feel like I am in the inside of Hershey's kiss, which is an added bonus. I love the self check-out system, which is pretty standard for libraries now-a-days. Another bonus is that all I had to do to get a library card was show my driver's license. So much easier than in the last state I lived where I had to bring in my driver's license, two bills with my address, my marriage certificate, passport, and first set of fingerprints. Okay, it wasn't quite that bad. But why did I have to bring in bills? Psh! Texas libraries are soo much cooler than Idaho ones. Okay, I'll stop my tangent now. Cody Library always has awesome service and they even send me an email a day or two before my books are due. Now I am less likely to get fined. Sweet! Cody Library: you are a winner! read more

This library is right next to a school, and seems to serve as the school's library. It's focused mainly on pre-teen and tween books. They've got a large graphic novel (comic book) section. But beyond that, they seem to be rather lacking in their collection. The library isn't exactly quiet, as there are kids running around screaming, teenagers loudly yakking on their phones, and loud discussions going on about non-literary topics. There are no study rooms or quiet reading areas. It's just an open area. The librarians are helpful enough. Parking is easy, and they stay open later than some other branches around town. There are several self-checkout stations so you can get in and get out quickly. I really don't care for this branch at all. read more

Yeah it's central. It gets a lot of use from the community, which means efficient use of public funds. But why does it feel like an unemployment office? There are people just sitting around doing nothing. I suppose it's a nicer hangout than other places around town if I have no job.. Minus 1 star. The tables in the central area have no power outlets. Minus 1 big star. The DVD's are categorized by first letter in the title. After that, they're mixed. So let's say you want to find Serendipity. You will have to look thru ALL the S's. What's up with that?? I like the quiet room as it really is quiet and I prefer the large tables to study cubes when I work on a laptop. read more

Love coming to the Cody Library.  This evening attended a program by  Dr. Cesare Grava and it was awesome!!!!.  The adult programs have been phenomenal wish there was more of them (hint, hint). After the program, I went to the computer to check my email and asked the ladies at the desk a question.  I am always impressed with how effective and professional they answer my questions.  Keep up the EXCELLENT work. read more

Recently, my neighbor reminded me of libraries. Yes, reminded me. I fondly recalled my years in libraries while school age through college late nights. "Yes!" I shouted to myself. The library! Where I can borrow a book to read. I love a bookstore as much as any other reader and I *really* love a Half-Priced Books, but with so many titles that I am jonesin' for right now, the library is an awesomely affordable choice. I logged on to the San Antonio Library website and applied for a card. At the same time, I put two titles on hold and requested Cody as my pick up point. A few days later, when the books were available for pick up, I went to the library, showed my ID and was issued a card. I then walked over to the hold section, picked up my books on hold based on my last name as filed and checked out the books - without talking to one person or waiting in line! Yes, I can walk into the library, take my book from the hold shelf, run my library card, scan the book and be out of there in no time flat AND I don't have to interact with a single soul let alone smile or acknowledge anyone if I am not in the mood to do so! I can't think of anything better. And here is this, as long as someone else is not waiting for the book I currently have checked out, I can extend my check out time - online. I wasn't able to find most of the books I was looking for on this trip, but the check-out desk person was very helpful. I got my card re-newed in less than 2mins and now you can renew them every 2 years (instead of the 1 year it was before). I love that they have a self-checkout scanners available. They informed me that I could reserve books online and they will notify me to pick it up at my library's holding area, which is exactly what I did once I got home. I think that is so awesome!! I don't understand why more people don't use the public library system...free books and DVDs! Forgot how awesome public libraries were, but now I'm back and will be using the system more often. I went there at ten in the morning to check out a book. Thieves smashed the window of my car. The library had it all on tape and refused to let me see it until I invoked the freedom of information act for which I had to fill out forms. The police refused to investigate and the library's insurance refused to pay. read more

This library is always crowded with people but it's big enough for everyone! There are desktop computers for use and laptops available for use on the premises. In addition, this location and all locations I think, has free WiFi. It has a great section of new book and DVDs. I've only been going here for a short time now, but next to Landa Library, it's my favorite. read more

Cody is a small little library but it's great if you just want to be in and out and grab a couple of good reads. Plus, if you need to access a wider selection of books, you can always place any book in the system on hold (ask a librarian or just log into your account online) and pick them up off the holds shelf at Cody. I haven't tried studying here, but it seems like for the most part, there are tables available and it's a quiet environment. Keep an eye out too for different events and resources that they offer. A couple years ago, my husband and I visited to try and get some help with our taxes. They had a bunch of volunteers to pretty much help out people who, like myself, were on the struggle bus when it came to adulting. Also, I got to vote for the first time ever at Cody library! Everyone here is friendly and there's always ample parking in the lot! read more

This library is great. Extremely large and plenty of computer space. Thankfully there's several areas for seating, some that are secluded and others that are out more in the open. It makes it great if you have some studying to do but want to be as isolated as possible. Keep in mind that this library is located extremely close to the middle school up the street, so if you go around 4-5PM, there will be a lot of middle-schoolers, nothing wrong with that.. just keep it in mind! :) read more

Horrible service. They will charge you for anything and everything even if its not your fault. The only way you can get out of paying is if you are very very sick or badly injured (managers description not mine ) do not rely on online renewel or drop off boxes, they are very unreliable. Call to make sure you renew or to make sure the due date is correct. This is a review on management mostly. They can be very un cooperative when it comes to charging you. This place is great for not only books but movies,cds, and internet. Just beware they will get you for everything even if its not your fault. read more

I love the library! This is no exception! San Antonio Public Library does it right. I am usually able to find what I'm looking for. The Reference Librarians are extremely nice and helpful. I love the self checkout option. My visits are usually no more than 10 minutes because I'm able to place a hold on everything I want online and pick it up the next day! read more

What a delightful little library, in a nice little pocket on this side of town. There were really not that many people inside, and it seemed so relaxed and slow-paced, as if time didn't matter. I guess that's what I love about libraries. The experience of seeing all those different worlds on the shelves, waiting to be discovered. I came here to use the computer and the front desk lady was very helpful and nice. She went over a lot of things with me about items in the library. I thought the staff were very nice too. The library itself is very small library. Mainy kids are there with their parents so it does end up being a little noisy. read more

Cody Library has been the place of reading since I was a child. It's the nearest library conveniently near the medical center. It serves at purposes for the community. It has gone through many renovations which looks very nice and modern. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Parking spaces usually get filled up quickly, it's better to get there early to avoid the crowds. It's located near Howsman Elementary and Hobby Middle Schools and many of them come to the library right after school. Most recently I came during the weekend to study for a big test and I used the quiet study room towards the back corner of the library. The pros is that the library has a designated quiet study area for your needs as well as the times thy have as well as two days out of the week open later, the cons, which, there are many is that the space is not adequate enough for the amount of people that use the room. Some people don't necessarily study in here and take up space for those that actually do study. Again, get here early to find a really good spot. read more
