    Cafe art (10/19/24)

Final stop for the Lakewood 3.0 road trip was Coffee Kitchen (10/19/24). It was a good sign on the window that they featured Victrola coffee beans. I was so full from lunch that I had to pass on any treats from the eye catching pastry case, display bins, and the speed rack. I stuck with a 16oz mocha. Well crafted and balanced. I also bought a cube of milk bread. A day later, it was sliced and tasty whether toasted or not. CC had a 12oz mocha and a chocolate chip walnut cookie. However, as we sat at one of the last available tables at this popular, lively cafe, her attention was diverted to something an adjacent table was sharing. It was so compelling that she had to order The Mammoth too. I have to admit it was well named. An aside, turns out a nice couple from Olympia also dined at the same earlier lunch spot. They were very gracious, shared their culinary faves, and opinions regarding spots in Everett, Seattle, Federal Way, Lakewood, and Olympia. Coffee Kitchen had a friendly person dealing with the volume of customers. Upbeat vibe. People with laptops. People having convos. People having group meetups. Very lively! Amazing selection of fresh baked goods from Leia Bakery. Had a mocha, but managed to have a full on cafe experience at Coffee Kitchen. Enjoyed this detour before we headed back onto I-5 North.

    Hello!!!!!!
    Crystal C.

This place is a hidden gem in South Tacoma Way, Lakewood, located in commercial complex behind 7-11 store, so it's not easy to see from the main road but the commercial building itself is very large. It's also across the street from Pal-do World and across the other street from Boohan Korean Market. I'm so blown out of water by the quality of breads, pastries, and most importantly, their coffee. All of the breads are baked right in their kitchen by the owner and they're fresh, warm and after trying a few of their bakery items I can tell they use high quality ingredients. They use Victrola Coffee beans from Seattle and I love Victrola, and the coffee is AMAZING. I've tried just about all basic coffees from Americano and different Lattes (both iced and hot) and the consistency and quality is there. See how many times I used the word "quality" already? : ) time to try it for yourself! The two ladies (one lady who takes order and the other lady is a barista) are so kind and they never stress even when there's a rush of customers. Batista knows what she's doing and will make your coffee and matcha drinks aaaand smoothie right. One more plus is that the parking lot is ample and huge. Lots of cozy seating inside, quiet atmosphere to get some studying or work done too. They have quite a menu of beverages and they can deliver!

Amazing little place! It may seem like not from the outside but once you get inside it's a cute, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. My family was looking for matcha and found the right place. Matcha was Delicious and she makes fresh bread daily. Cute desserts and everything about this place was cool!

Updated Review: The reviews are no longer accurate, they changed owners and revamped most of the menu in August. The options are a lot more limited now. They no longer have waffles which was one of the only reasons for going here. Didnt post any announcements of the changes so I wasted my time to drive here only to find out its essentially just a different cafe using the same name and location.

Stopped in on a whim and I'm so glad I did! The baked goods are exceptional and fresh and the black sugar cold brew was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Very kind staff, 10/10!

Squash and Cream Cheese Pastry & Americano

The best pastries I've had! I was in town visiting family and we stopped by for our morning coffee (Americano is amazingly smooth--Victrola beans!) We also ordered a sweet squash & cream cheese pastry and the salt bread with red bean. Both were so delicious! I especially loved the squash one! I'm from the NJ/NY area and have been to so many good Korean bakeries, but I have never tasted pastries like this. DO NOT wait to check this place out! The owner was super friendly and sweet---and her husband does all the baking himself! So glad I discovered this gem in Tacoma. Will def be back!

Cute place open when they are are open! Random place as I was visiting in Tacoma and super cute find with A M A Z I N G coffee. Professional expresso machine with the weight and technique for best tasting lattes. Korean owned with food options too! I would have hung out because they have cute sitting like where you to get coffee and chat. Recommended!!!!

While I have cafes I prefer in Lakewood, I wanted to try something new, so I found EM Boba & Coffee after looking up places online I ordered the Vietnamese coffee with the egg cream topping. I go to quite a few Vietnamese cafes in Seattle, so I have my standards. Unfortunately, their coffee did not meet my standards at all. The coffee tasted like it was made straight from one of those Vietnamese instant coffee packets. I do drink that here and there at home, but it's not the kind of taste I want from a cafe. The egg cream was pleasant though and helped make it taste better. I probably wouldn't come back for the coffee, but I'm still interested to see what the other drinks were like.

They had samples of their black sesame rice Krispy treat and it was really good, not too sweet and very nostalgic of a classic childhood treat. We just had a meal next door so we didn't need a snack so we'll order that next time. My boyfriend got the ube coffee while I got a summer special drink (can't remember which one) and it was what we were looking for: refreshing and not too sweet. Now the biggest issue that I came across is when I asked for no ice in my drink, the employee gave me an apologetic smile and said she would try her best. As you see in the picture, it isn't completely full. Now I saw a review that complained about a similar issue and the business owner said that you can just let staff know that you want the cup to be filled and they would do their best to accommodate. Not sure if that is just miscommunication or just something the owner said to seem like they are solving the issue but it seems really unprofessional. I understand that it can alter the drink's intended flavor but I ask for no ice all the time and am always happy with how it turns out. You check my photos of drinks from other places and I always ask for no ice as I have sensitive teeth and I don't like the condensation it causes. Other than that issue, it's good to see Lakewood have a nice boba and coffee spot. Additionally, they have two crane machines and board games to enjoy too. They are also dog friendly as long as they are well-behaved and don't cause any messes.

They make their syrups inhouse, and you can tell, even a basic caramel latte tasted like the most delicate, handcrafted drink. They have fun seasonals, they're a hit or miss obviously based on your preferences, but I love them all so far. My go to drink pairing is a cardamon and ginger latte. The inside is SO HOMEY. It's rare to find coffee shops that haven't succumbed to the hospital white aesthetic, so this is so refreshing on the head. It is the ideal shop to study in. The cups and plates are my favorite thing about this place. The cups are handmade and just so stinking cute. The baristas are so welcoming every single time I come in, they look like they just love their job and love to chat with the customers. The outside of the shop is a mint green which really throws me off because the inside is so cute. The parking situation is a little limited as well, there's a few parking spots near the shop and the rest is street parking. They have a large selection of pastries and some food but know that if you come in the afternoon there probably won't be much left, they go pretty quick. Amazing shop, it's a different aesthetic than what most shops are but it feeds that "homey" craving that I have when I want to study at a coffee shop.

The wait is a little long and I feel that is because they take their time with each cup they make. Seating is scarce so if you plan to enjoy your cup inside, do come in when they open because it fills up really quick. My only recommendation if they look into the reviews is to remove the center table and put 2 more 2 seater tables if it still allows within capacity. Never change. Your coffee is great.

The shop itself is pretty small with only a few seats and tables and there wasn't any customers present when I first walked in but it has a nice aesthetic going on so I'd imagine it would be an ideal place to chill with friends if you're craving boba; otherwise, nothing wrong with picking up your fave drinks and skedaddling home either. There was just one employee behind the counter when I entered the shop, but it wasn't busy so it was fine and once more people started coming in after me and a line was forming, another employee showed up to help out. The service was actually really good though, and the worker was super nice, quick, and got my order right even though he was solo at first. I ordered three drinks: the taro Oreo slush, coconut matcha latte, and Thai tea (with boba in the last two), and they were all SOOO good. The drinks were super creamy and flavorful, and the boba was made really well. Like soft and chewy, not hard at all. I also got two macarons (a créme brulée and a matcha), and omgoth, they're not the tiny ones you usually see. They're pretty big and thick, which explains the approximate $4.50 price, but they were totally worth it. Definitely suggest trying at least one. Prices overall felt pretty average for boba, not cheap but not crazy either. Oh yeah, I think the drinks only come in one size (I don't recall there being a Small or Large option). There's a lot of parking since it's in an Asian plaza, but it does get really busy because Sol Boba is right next to H Mart, so there was practically no parking in front of the shop and I feel like the spaces are kinda tight. There is banner/sign saying "under new management" at the front, but since this was my first time visiting, I can't really say much on that? Overall though, it was a great first-time experience since the drinks were delish so I will definitely come back!
