Favorite Greater NYC area coffee roaster BY FAR! With an ever changing selection of single origin roasts you are sure to find a roast for your taste preference. And unlike many other roasters nearby, Coffee Labs does not have a "burnt aftertaste" to their beans (think Starbucks). The baristas are knowledgeable and love talking coffee. Another great thing about Coffee Lab is that they have stories behind many single origins and are cultivating in unique places (Yemen). Large latte with macadamia nut milk. Surprisingly, it seems they use the same amount of espresso regardless of the size -I wanted a large so she suggested I get an extra shot. ( Shouldn't the amount of espresso automatically increase with the amount of milk?) doesn't really matter as it ends up just being espresso with milk. I've been here for the last few years sporadically. However the last visit was a complete sucker punch. I asked for a iced coffee with light Ice (not because I want more coffee, I drink slow and don't want watery coffee). I was informed that I would be charged 75 cents. I then asked if that was new because a couple days before that, I was never notified of that up charge. The barista said it was put in place 6 months ago and the other staff member didn't charge me correctly. So I then said, fine and explained I still want less ice, but you can put less coffee as well if that's what they are concerned about (the same amount of coffee always put). She and the other staff seemed to be inconvenienced by this and stared at me like a deer in headlights. It was beyond unnerving so I just said forget it and walked out because I've never been charged for less ice in my life. I'm appalled that even asking for less liquid is still an up charge. read more

This is my favorite coffee store in the US. (What?! The US?!) you're right - the US is a big place. No. You know what, I'm upgrading that statement to the WORLD. Coffee labs roaster is my favorite coffee store in the world. Why you ask? Because wherever I go, you see so many coffee stores that are the same: same industrial piping decor, same glasses dude behind the espresso machine, same death cab music above, same tasting stuff. But coffee labs something is different. It's a je ne sais quoi that is found in the taste, the community, the history, the tradition of the people who go there and work there, their cool ownership, their work to diversify what they do across the world, etc. it's a special place and moving away from Tarrytown made me realize it. The place may have good coffee, but I have notice a steady decline in the customer service. The owner MikeLove is a rude, arrogant person. I guess he doesn't need the local people that walk into his shop anymore, since he sends coffee out to stores and restaurants. He should remember his roots and be nice to the people who helped him by buying his coffee. When the shop first opened he was pleasant and he crafted the coffee, now he is just plain rude. I have a BIG problem with caffeine. This place kept me awake during grad school. My grad school books still smell of the roasted coffee beans! Their coffee is great, they take it very seriously. There is plenty of seating an the vibe is very casual. I have visited this place over 100 times and I keep going back first because of my addiction and also because certain baristas are spot on at all times. Others are eh. Luckily for me during grad school they had three amazing baristas and a top notch roaster. Currently, I am not jiving with any of their baristas, but I am trying. If you are looking for a caffeine injection, go for the Red Eye (coffee with extra espresso shots). If you are looking for something creamy, but still full of yummy coffee flavor, I highly recommend their lattes (this is where your barista matters.....there is nothing like a mean shot with latte art to boot!). If coffee is not for you, their tea selection is top notch as well. Yes, the service can be slow, but each cup is treated with care, so please be patient. Coffee Labs also offers sweet treats- I highly recommend the apricot or raspberry bars, though you can't go wrong with any of the cookies. Try to visit on a Friday night when they have live music. There is nothing better than sipping a latte in a mug while listening to a local artist perform. So you may be wondering: "If she likes this place so much, why no 4 or 5?" OK. So this place is decent to hang out for a drink and maybe read a non Internet connected device. But if you request Internet access you are required to keep ordering every 60 minutes. I get it they don't want to have people hanging out for hours with just one drink. But guess what. Free wifi is not a privilege. Offer it without forcing people to jump through hoops and they will be respectful enough to keep ordering. To the owner of this place, you seem open and friendly and willing to help people with wonderful advice on a living sustainably..so why restrict something so important like wifi? The staff is friendly. But get with the times. Go anywhere in the city (especially Brooklyn and Manhattan) and they get the fundamentals of accomdating customer service. I really love this place! Location is great, atmosphere is great and the coffee is delicious. If I lived a little closer I would be a regular for sure, but for now it's worth the 20 minute trip! I wish they'd take debit cards (convenience factor) but the "Cash Only" sign out front is just charming enough to make it ok. The baristas are friendly and passionate and if you're there towards the end of the night, they are generous and will ask if anyone wants a free pastry. Great local coffee shop with great coffee. Someone said "Starbucks prices" in an earlier review. I don't agree with this point simply because everyone has prices similar to Starbucks, so why not spend your money at a great local place. They get nice beans, roast it themselves, and don't burn it unlike Starbucks. Also, their baristas know how to make drinks and can do latte art. I did get a so-so drink here once but only once. Yes, the inside is a bit spartan, but you can certainly sit here and chat plus they have live music. They are also tolerant of asking about the drinks and they will suggest different things you may like. Coffee labs is a local gem, I wish there were more non-Starbucks coffee shops around. read more

I work in the hospitality industry and know how hard it is especially right now to own a business. I have been here before and really enjoyed the coffee and atmosphere (prior to COVID), however unfortunately this time around I felt like the customers were an afterthought and the woman taking orders had an awful attitude. I totally understand that you can't come inside and your orders are taken at the window. The menu is only visible when you're at the window to order and when I went to give my order I took a minute because I hadn't been there in a while and wasn't sure what I wanted. The cashier was not thrilled that I didn't know exactly what I wanted and made sarcastic gestures. I'll keep it simple. This little shop has the best coffee I've been able to find in Westchester County in the past few years of semi-aimless wandering in the vicinity. Coffee Labs Roasters also has a really good selection of quality pastries from local purveyors. Life is too short for shitty coffee and bad pastries--your time won't be wasted stopping in for either. Sunday morning and I ended up in Tarrytown. Not a terribly breakfast friendly area. I kind of stumbled upon this place. It has a very hipster/Grenwich Village vibe to it. Meaning I almost wanted to just leave, but I needed coffee. The standard pour was delicious. Coffee was very good, not too strong, not too weak. Great flavor. I was also given a shot of espresso, that I may still be buzzing over. The bagel was ok. I got a poppy bagel with butter. Nothing to write home about. read more

As mentioned in a previous review, I recently got a puppy. Anyone who has a dog knows that once you get one, you pretty much want to take it everywhere with you. I am no exception, and it has made me realize just how few dog-friendly businesses there are in Westchester. So when someone told me about Coffee Labs, I was immediately interested. I met with a friend who also has a dog, and we headed to Tarrytown to see if this place would actually let us bring out pets inside. Unfortunately, no such luck - apparently Coffee Labs is currently in negotiations with the health department for getting clearence for dogs to hang out with their javaholic masters inside the establishment. Luckily it was a gorgeos day, and with plenty of outdoor seating options, we were happy to drink our beverages outside. The dogs didn't mind either; there was a bowl of water for them on the stoop, and they got more love and affection than they could handle from passersby. I'm a coffee purist, so I just had their house roast served black. It was pretty perfect - just strong enough without being acidic. My friend went with their mocha latte, which I triend and also loved. Definitely a perfect drink for people who want a caffeine kick but might not like the coffee taste. It was as rich as hot chocolate, but also light enough to not fill you up. After reading mixed reviews about the staff from other Yelpers, I was wondering how our experience would be, but from my interaction they were friendly, helpful, and it took very little time to get our drinks considering how packed the place was. I definitely want to go back and try some of their other roasts and custom drinks. Hopefully my dog will be a welcomed customer then, too. read more

It's small, independently owned coffee shops like this that allow us to step out from under the charred-rubber tire coffee stain that is Starbucks. Excellent coffee at this spot, beans roasted on premises and hand sourced from around the world with the utmost care and intention by management. I usually just stick to regular drip or iced tea, but they've got all the fixings and gadgets for whatever you may fancy. Good pastry selection. Sometimes there's live music in the evenings. Great little independent coffee shop. It's not one of those fancy couch place, it's a local community coffee shop... With wood table and chairs. There's enough room, so that you are not sitting on top of one another. The staff are very pleasant for the early morning. I would definitely come here again for a good cup of coffee. We went in here this morning for a cup of coffee but noticed there was some really awful smell coming from the back room. I asked someone about it and they said they were welding something in the basement or in the back or and the fumes were coming into the shop. WHAT?! Welding fumes are incredibly toxic. Why is this place open during construction. I certainly didn't want any coffee after hearing that. We got out of there ASAP. I'm still nauseous from it. I must preface this review: I am NOT an expert or a connoisseur when it comes to coffee. Having said this, I am, though, a black/brewed coffee drinker. I don't want to drink a dessert, nor do i want to drink milk and sugar with coffee. I tend to like bolder and 'chocolaty' coffees. I am not a fan of acidic coffee and this place brews the best balanced coffee, in my humble opinion. I think my favorite is the Nicaraguan coffee - but they are ALWAYS out of these beans (I get my beans from here too as much as i can). i don't know much about their blended drinks or espresso drinks - not a big fan of lattes or cappuccinos. They roast their own beans and they are concerned with fair wages. I am not a hard core fair trade coffee buyer, however, I do believe that we all need to be responsible for one another and need to be at least thoughtful of what is going on around us. They used to allow dogs to come into the cafe, which was a unique experience - but not any more. If you are in search of a local-cafe (and sick of chain coffee places) - this place will satisfy your caffeine/coffee needs and your social-conscience. read more

I'd say its one of the great coffee experiences in greater New York. As a coffee shop goes its all you'd want. Spacious, charming, minimalist and very authentic. There's no question this place is all about the coffee and the coffee drinking experience. There's a massive roaster on premises and one HELLUVA espresso machine at the bar. The barista's are all upbeat and very friendly. They know their stuff but are still totally normal and friendly. I took home a half pound of their espresso blend and wish I'd asked for more. Its rich layered the crema is as thick as your bedroom pillow and its just a delight to drink. The shot is easy to pull and it has a broad sweet spot. If you're a coffee person put this on your list of "must have" if your just in the area know that it'll do nothing but add to your day and remain in your memory for a while. It seems like I'm one of the very few not enamored with this place. My visit was very brief, I ran in got an iced caramel latte, and left. The barista was friendly, but the latte was a little disappointing. It's usual to have the caramel settle to the bottom, here I was sipping straight caramel. I think part of the problem was that the iced latte was more ice than latte. The "large" drink I ordered was still three quarters full of ice when I finished it. The shop's layout seems a little awkward, with some sort of lift or trap door in the center of the room, with a railing to one side of it, but still had that vintage coffee shop feel. Perhaps you need to linger here a bit longer to appreciate it, and I will give it another try when I have a little bit more leisure time, but right now, I'm not feeling it. read more

I just visited this place for the first time while visiting with friends yesterday, after having spotted it and noted that I had to try it out on a previous visit. I was not disappointed! I was impressed upon walking in to see the roasting equipment, and then what I learned was the Kyoto drip setup behind the counter (though I didn't try that out on this visit). The vibe inside was very nice, and the menu was vast. My friends and I all got mocha blenders, as it was a warm day and that seemed like a refreshing choice. The Wild Tribe Mocha was delicious, as was the Toffee Mocha (which my friend got and I tried). I was so impressed, in fact, that I coaxed my friends into visiting again later in the evening, where I got a latte, one of my friend's got a mocha, and my other got a Witch's Brew. The latte was delicious and foamy, the mocha was very attractive from what I could tell, with its design on top of the foam, and the witch's brew was a bit more bold than my friend bargained for. Overall, i was pleased to find a coffee house with truly hand-crafted drinks in the area. The choice of good independent coffee shops really thins out once you leave NYC, but this certainly fits the bill. As for the complaints I've read in other reviews: as these two visits were my first time there, I can't really attest to them. The baristas were friendly and competent in my limited time there, and I had no problem with the coffee, as is evident from my review. I will say this, though: when we came back in the evening, there was a local musician playing, and given the somewhat awkward arrangement of the shop, my friends and I almost felt as if we were intruding when we arrived to get coffee, since going to the counter meant crossing in between some fo the patrons there for the music. read more

This place probably has the best frozen coffee drinks in the country. They taste flavorful to the last drop and unlike the chain coffee places do not end up being all ice after a few sips. I frequented them often with Lefteris Gyro being next door. The place is cosy not too small but not to big either. When I used to go there you could find their Coffee Labrador Retrievers (hence the name) behind the counter. Always well behaved and gently eager to get a pet. You know the place is good whenever you think of a city you lived in, you think of visiting that place. I will travel 60 miles for great food, great coffee not so sure but thinking of it.
