The fish fry was really good it was a delicacy. The breakfast was good and my kids really liked it

I stopped at the Coffee Mill Café for a quick lunch. This is kind of your old classic Main Street diner type restaurant. I ordered the club sandwich and the apple pie with whipped cream. The club sandwich was satisfying as I was really hungry and it was comfort food. The apple pie was tasty however I do suggest you not get the whipped cream. It's kind of the artificial whip cream, so it has the cool whip flavor versus a real whipped cream flavor. Overall, very happy with my experience here. Good service. Casual. I stopped in for just a piece of pie. The coconut cream was wonderful and they topped it with meringue instead of whipped cream which is my favorite. It also seemed to have a meringue crust. Staff was friendly and the menu looked good - I just wasn't hungry enough for a meal. read more

I found this listed on Roadside America as "Obama's Pie Stop". Sure enough, as soon as you walk in, you can see the framed photo on the wall above the booth he sat in. Evidently, he stopped here while campaigning in 2011 and bought $60 worth of pies. We sat at a table and were warmly greeted. There are a lot of appetizing choices for breakfast. I got the English Mill which was an English muffin with sausage, egg, and cheese with a side of hash browns. My husband ordered the Loaded Omelet and we got an egg, bacon, and toast for our son from the kid's menu. The food was fantastic. My muffin sandwich was fantastic! The hash browns were superb. My husband loved that his omelet had sour cream in it. Our son was very happy with his eggs and bacon. My husband's coffee cup never went empty and he said the coffee was fantastic. I had a piece of pumpkin pie and it, too, was fantastic. The décor is a little dated, but it's clean. There were plenty of locals chatting over their morning coffee. The food and the service is fantastic. It's also affordable; the total for the three of us was $24. It's right on Main Street with plenty of street parking in front of and around the restaurant. They're pie is decent (the custard i liked) but the pistachio dessert was a let down. . . The pudding was ok and the crust was delicious but the cool whip was meh! I hate cool whip (or the psuedo cool whip) if i hadn't known that it wasn't whipped cream i wouldn't ordered that) The coffee was good but the sweetener wasn't good (i don't like the pink packets). My husband orded the club n the fries and in short we are not going back. The club ONE THIN piece of ham and ONE THIN turkey. The flavor was good but the meat wasn't be much to be desired. AND the fries no salt no seasoning ... bland Very very bland. 30 minutes drive time and it's wasn't good enough warrant a second time. Sorry Coffee Mill. read more

Great little small town cafe. We decided to stop here on our way north from Rochester. We had been here before for lunch so we tried breakfast. Did not disappoint. Many locals sitting in here for coffee. The food was tasty. I had a large breakfast that included eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. It all was good and very filling. I read about this place online and was so excited to visit. Obama had pie there! How cool. We went and quickly found they hide their Obama visit. The frame with all the photos and articles is hidden behind the register. Really? We sat ourselves (as the sign said). I'm not new to dive diners. I love them. But we waited. And waited. And waited for a waitress. It was at least 20 minutes before we were even greeted. Nothing was amazing and they were out of most pies. This is a great diner in the heart of Zumbrota. The Coffee Mill is known for their pies, ever flow of coffee, and the food. Breakfast includes a breakfast bar with all the standard assortments of eggs, meats, pancakes, etc... Lunch and dinner have a salad bar. Many items are featured including pasta salads. There aren't a ton of places in Zumbrota, and this used to be the best option. I don't know what has happened, but the last two times we've stopped it's been really bad. The last time was the final straw....a comedy of errors, compounded by surly customer service. I don't get it, they were not that busy, but it seemed like we were imposing on them. read more

Ehhh, I wanted something hometown-y with love and all the fixins'. I noticed Brock Osama bought a pie here and I was excited to see what was on the menu. Not phenomenal prices for such a small-town establishment, and definitely nothing impressive on the menu. Ordered a Ruben sandwich and a hot beef special sandwich... Both were okay, but not delicious, savory, or even fresh tasting. Sides were skimpy and I had some of the slowest service in years here. If you live nearby, this may be the cream of the crop but if you have traveled more than 10 miles on your tractor outside of the strip, you'll avoid this place at most costs. Cash, or check only. We visited this place during a weekend trip to Zumbrota. Super cute town, and this place was such a great landmark!! We ate there for lunch (fish friday!!) and breakfast (eggs, potatoes, bacon and pancakes), both meals were great and I was stuffed. The Ranch dressing was my favorite. They mentioned they make it fresh, homemade...and you can tell! Of course with the name Coffee Mill, you'd expect their coffee to be great and it did not let us down. It was great. I had two cups and I am not even a coffee drinker. As others have mentioned, the pies are homemade daily. The owners were great, family owned, and they made us feel like family during our visit. You can tell they care about there customers. :-) I particularly like the nice lady with the glasses. She was awesome and on the ball with what we needed! thanks! Great small-town cafe. We had salads -one with freshly grilled chicken, the other a side with a hamburger steak. The salads were crisp and fresh, hamburger perfectly done. We're didn't have desserts, but there is a long list of homemade pies. We'll return-a nice place to stop between Rochester and Twin Cities. read more

We used to come here every Sunday morning for breakfast, but as I got older we moved away from the area. Stopped in last night for their fish fry...what a deal! Very tasty and excellent service. We fell upon this place located on the old main street in Zumbrota. We ordered cheese curds(with ranch dressing), a bacon cheeseburger, a battered walleye meal which came with soup(fantastic ham & potato soup), a salad, American french fries(which is a potato sliced very thin and cooked in a skillet) and we shared a piece of coconut cream pie. Everything listed above SO Delicious! I highly recommend this place for the food! The Coffee Mill could use some updating as far as the looks of it but you will look past that when you try the food! P.S. They don't take check card/credit cards. They do have a ATM there. You could also just pay with check or cash. P.S.S President Obama has eaten at the Coffee Mill. Wonderful food. Steaks are so tender and tasty. Shrimp is perfect. Everything I have ever ate here is so good.

I got the Western Chicken Sandwich, and it was just ok. The grilled cheese was pretty average, and the chicken ranch wrap had a lot of lettuce and not a lot of chicken. The other people in the restaurant got soups, roast beef, and chicken dinners and seemed very happy. Moral of the story the sandwiches were not so great but the home cooked comfort foods seemed pretty good. read more

Friday night walleye is the best! Wonderful salad bar with home made clam chowder that is second to none. The off-the-menu fish isn't as reliable, though, maybe depends on the cook. Friendly, home-town atmosphere, thankfully, the conversation and laughter of patrons provides beautiful background music! read more
