There's no way I could not write up a review for Cog Wild bicycle tours. I've taken a private guided tour here before and had a great experience and probably should've written them up then however, recently I scheduled the second tour about a year later and accidentally showed up a week early. This was totally my mistake. I had set my mind up to not bike that day once I realized the error However Lara was so gracious and kind about my mistake. She immediately walked me over to the office and started trying to figure out what else we could do. She really want the extra mile and ended up coordinating bikes from the hotel, recommending a route since now we wouldn't have a guide, and offering to drive us up if we weren't able to catch the shuttle. There's no place I will rent a bike in Bend besides here thank you Cog Wild. read more

Great shuttle service. We used this business in May. So we weren't able to do some of the shuttles we booked in Oakridge, OR due to the snow keeping the shuttle from reaching the trailhead. CW gave us an extra shuttle the first day we had shuttles booked for no extra charge to make up for the inconvenience of the snow affecting our scheduled shuttles. Then they were willing to work with us the following day after we missed our scheduled time due to some confusion. 10/10 would use this service again. Shout out to our shuttle driver Rob. Cog Wild was a great place to rent from for our first mountain biking trip. There are trails right behind the rental to test out the bike before hopping on a shuttle to start up the hill. Despite some falls, we really enjoyed our trip. Bring plenty of water with you on your ride. After a flat from a fall mid-ride, they came out and brought us a new tube and got us riding again. Also gave us a tutorial on riding: "...stay low, like a picnic table...". Finished the ride with a beer and would do it again. read more

This was our first time shipping our bike to a destination and Cog Wild was nice enough to accept it for us. They let us know when it arrived (It was a HUGE box as it had our tandem mountain bike in it). Thank you Cog Wild for accepting our bike for us!! We also did 3 days of shuttles with Cog Wild, what a great time. 2 of our Shuttles were from Bend to various mnt bike trails and the 3rd shuttle was with Phil out of Oakridge Bike Shop in Oakridge, Oregon up to the top of the Alpine trail. All the staff we so helpful, had no issues with our tandem and ensured it was secured on the vans and shuttles. Cog Wild set us up perfectly for our first tandem mountain biking out west. Imagine driving 7 hours only to find out your shuttle has been cancelled when you arrive. Probably a lesson to not have used a shuttle to begin with. After all, the climb is part of the ride. I get it. You can't afford to run a shuttle for just one guy. What bummed me out was that you told me of the cancellation by email and not until the morning of my afternoon shuttle ride. An email that I couldn't read because I was already driving to catch your shuttle. A phone call or text would have been great, and maybe something closer to 24 hours in advance. That would help give out-of-towners like me a little more time time to react. read more

I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review! My husband and I have used Cog Wild 3 times (2016, 2018, 2019) and we've had a wonderful experience each time, well mostly. In 2016, we took the shuttle over to McKenzie River trail and definitely had a good time. Unfortunately, I can't remember who our shuttle drivers were, but they were awesome! I left with all good vibes and was looking forward to utilizing their shuttles in the future. 5 stars for sure had I reviewed this in 2016. In 2018, I was the lucky winner of the Sea Otter Weekend Getaway in Oakridge. It included a 2 night stay in their cabin and passes for 5 friends (or was it 4) to Alpine Trail. I can't remember since only 3 of us used the passes. I also can't remember the name of our shuttle driver at that trip, but he was also super friendly. We also thought the office manager was awesome as well. In fact, the office manager threw in a second shuttle (Larison Rock) in the afternoon when we were all ready to pay. He made our little group feel so special that weekend! We had such a wonderful experience. Had I written this review last year, I would've given 5 stars for sure. Their cabin is awesome! I was sad it was not available for our most recent trip this year. My husband and I came back for more and we were in Oakridge to ride Alpine Trail again with Cog Wild this past Friday. This trip was a bit different (weather aside - it was raining) and I didn't feel the warm fuzzies as previous trips with our shuttle driver. Perhaps in previous years, the shuttle drivers were always welcoming and approached us first and started chatting it up. It wasn't the case this time around. In fact, when my husband was handing up my bike, he asked the driver "rear or front first?" The driver seemed a bit annoyed and said "Why do people ask me this? That's not the right way to load the bikes." Well, my husband did say that in Downieville, CA that's how they load the bikes and that's why he asked. Whatevers. May be I'm just being sensitive. We both tipped him at the top and handed the cash directly to him. I'm not sure if the other riders did but may be they did. Other than that, big props to Stella (who checked us in) she was very welcoming and friendly. She also was kind enough to take our picture. So why 4 stars? Well, as we were loading up into the van, the driver warned us about the state of the van, his last word being "feet." I honestly don't remember the previous shuttle rides smelling that unpleasant. For some reason, it really smelled strongly ripe, you know, stale sweat for sure and I don't know what, may be "feet"? LOL May be an airfreshener or febreeze would help? I get it, what do I expect for a van that shuttles a bunch of sweaty mountain bikers all day every day? Well, If I'm trapped in a smelly van for 40 minutes at a cost of $35 + tip.....may be next time I'll bring Febreeze. ;) Definitely going to be a next time. :) read more

This summer my son and I used CW shuttle to enjoy the Alpine trail. Unfortunately for Cog we were the only 2 guests but they went up with us anyway, all people were super nice. On our way down my son made a mistake and fell (later I found out that he broke both his forearm bones). I was able to call Cog Wild for help. They had to scramble a different shuttle+driver for the already scheduled trip and they sent a driver for our rescue. They took our call very seriously, the driver was very quick to get to us (I think he made it in 20 minutes!). The charge was extremely reasonable for basically a private shuttle. I cannot even explain how grateful I am for all involved in this! this is how a small business should be, real people reacting to real situations. My son did not need surgery and I think that his fracture was not displaced because of the quick help we got. read more

We used Cog Wild shuttles 4 years ago & yes, they are still fantastic! Since then they have moved their office from downtown Bend to a VERY good location at LOGE (https://www.logecamps.com) off of HWY 46 / SW Century Drive towards Mt Batchelor. Essentially folks can roll out of bed at the LOGE & ride or camp nearby on forestry land. What is even better is Cog Wild in now closer to the network of trails. We planned our trip to Oregon before we knew there was a fire outside of Bend. Between the fires & then an unexpected rain storm we had to change our shuttle plans twice to avoid poor air quality / muddy conditions. The staff at Cog Wild were very accommodating to get us on their other open / available shuttles. For example, the air quality was 150+ AQI with the fire, so we moved our 1st shuttle from Bend to their Oakridge site and had a great warm up day. Great Covid protocols & super friendly staff. We recently signed Cogwild up for a mountain bike tour in the Bend area near Mt. Bachelor. We had a great time. The bikes were in excellent condition and top of the line. In my experience, it is uncommon to get bikes of this quality for bike tours. The tour guide was really helpful and an excellent judge of our abilities. She took us on a medium level single track trail that was perfect for everyone. She was a great guide for us. I really recommend this organization for a tour. We had 5 people and it was quite reasonably priced, considering the time we saved not having to go to the shop, find the right bikes, get lost on the trail, etc. Amy read more

Last year I did the Singletrack Sampler Half Day tour and had a wonderful time. My guide Russ was great. He planned out a route which best suited my riding preference. It included a delicious lunch which we had by the Deschutes River. Last week I headed up to Bend without any advanced planning. I was able to get on an afternoon shuttle up to Wanoga and did the same route again. If you're riding these trails for the first time I would suggest a guided tour to maximize your ride. read more

What a perfect way to spend a day in Bend :) There were 3 of us riding and we took the 9 am shuttle up to Swampy Lakes TH. At first, I wasn't too excited knowing that we were going to have a guide spend the day with us on the mountain. But, after riding, I couldn't imagine riding without a guide (especially if you've never ridden Bachelor). Our guide was Sara and she was amazing! The two guys in our group would get directions from Sara on which way to ride and take off. Sara hung back with me, giving me plenty of space to ride at my own pace. She was easy to talk to and there was never any pressure to go faster than I wanted to ride, even though I knew she could keep up with the guys in our group. My husband liked the fact that he could ride at his own pace and at the same time have peace that I was in more than capable hands in case I had a need. We also loved the fact that we didn't need to look at a map when we came to the various trail heads along the route. Sara tailored the perfect ride for us all! I spent a 6 weeks in Bend using Cog Wild 2-3 times a week and the experience with them was amazing. They are completely organized and friendly. The shuttles are comfortable and clean. The staff helped me get a group to go out to the McKenzie River Trail (MRT) and the experience was above and beyond all expectations. I highly recommend them for shuttles. Top of the line bike equipment & we had a pretty good guide. Everyone in our group had never mountain biked before, so it was a learning experience. We took one of the easier trails.... not sure how many miles it was, but halfway through he let us pick a couple different ways back (either harder and longer or shorter and easier) which was nice . They also provided snacks halfway and drinks afterwards. I also bought a jacket from their little store and it's my favorite jacket now (super comfy, fits great). read more

Fantastic day riding the Bachelor to Bend route. Our guide Greg (great name by the way!) took us on a fantastic day of riding some great trails. The staff at Cog Wild were helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the bikes, the trails, and technical aspects of the rides. We had an amazing day and tore up some single track when it was all said and done, we had just under 31 miles under our belts and enjoyed a few deserved beers back at CW's office. Our guide, Gabe, was great! We started out at Swampy and had a pretty adventurous ride. I'm a street biker, but picked up on mountain biking in no time. I recommend getting the full suspension bike if you are not used to mountain biking. They also loaned gloves as part of the gear...this was much appreciated. Me and a buddy went to Oregon to explore the area, tackle some mountains and do some mountain biking. Man did we make an awesome decision, not only was it one of the highlights of our trip but going with Cog Wild was great. I had scheduled a 3 day camping trip with Cog Wild, but unfortunately I was the only one who signed up and they cancelled the tour. BUT the staff worked super hard to put together a weekend in Bend as a "replacement trip" since I had already taken those days off work through a combination of skills days, group yours and straight up shuttles. Since it was last minute, AirBnb's were limited, the office staff even reached out to their friends and found one for me. And one day I wanted to shuttle in the afternoon, they ran a shuttle just for me @ no cost so I could still ride the whole weekend. Van drivers, guides and mgmt were all amazing people to work with. I can't think of anything these guys could do better, I look forward to my next booking with them. read more

Best Trip Ever! My LA Mt.Bike crew just finished Cog's 3 day McKenzie Tour and it was by far the best tour and about the best riding I've ever done--we've all ever done. Rides through old Growth forest, hanging with green moss, that was like bob-sledding through the forest. Rides so powerful and overwhelming in joy that I could hardly sleep at night as images of giant ferns, giant trees and sweet, sweet singletrack seemed burned indelibly into my memory. A feeling shared by the entire crew! Everything about the trip was top-notch and a great guys getaway. The food, the rides, the beer, the Kombucha, Horse Creek Lodge, our guides ability to provide both excellent service and support while simultaneously feeling like part of the crew. Cog Wild delivered with the a shuttle to a great ride. A couple things I would ding them on and they need to improve on are: The rental bike (Santa Cruz Bronson) I got had no brake pads left on the rear brake and the ride was a 26 mile epic on the MRT trail which would have left me without rear brake before the end. Bike shop should have checked the disc brake pads! Go thing I checked them myself and made them change them at shop before we left! 20 minute delay for shuttle to leave and made a moment of worry for me. But they changed the pads without any objections! In mile 2 of the ride the seatpost bolts were loose and I had to stop and tighten and adjust the saddle tilt. Second is that on the MRT trail out of Bend they only give you 5 hours to do the complete 26 mile ride! Most maps state the trail takes 5 to 8 hours to ride! This is a technical ride and unless you are a racer and expert rider you are going to have a very hard time to finish it in time. The purpose of the ride is to enjoy the trail and scenery but with that limited time we had to really push faster than we wanted to and when you are getting tired near the end that is dangerous. Near the end we were going 16 + MPH on single track that keeps turning and going over roots and rocks. Fun but we were going too fast for how tired we were! I had just done two other 30+ mile Epic rides during that week so I I'm used to that distance but the lava fields are very technical and slow you down and take a lot out of you! Third we had 11 people in a van and it was tight. I had to sit with a Cooler between my legs for 2.5 hours in the shuttle which was not very comfortable. Fourth: Cog Wild did not hand out a basic map of trail and on the MRT it crosses roads several times and we had to spend time finding were the trail was! Just a basic map with hints on were to go and were to look for trail at these junctions would help out. How much does a 8.5 x 11 copy cost? read more

Awsome! The best trails I've been on! Such good fun. Russ was my guide. (which ended up one on one) after talking about what i was used to riding and what i might like to try, he set up a killer route down the hill, lots of trail variety, obstacles, drops, logs to ride on! It was invaluable to have trail knowledge called out as we rode rocks, drops, swoops, and everthing else on the trail! Russ took the time to record (with my phone!) my attempt to navigate some cool stuff! Very pleased with the day. Extremely glad i paid for this and, I hope to do it again. But, im bringing some of my friends! I didn't interact with much of the cogwild staff in person but, they were chill and happy to answer my questions and made arrangements for Russ to take me out on a seemingly dead Tuesday! I had a wonderful all day tour in August 2015 with cog wild. We had two clients and one guide, Gearnot (sp?). I considered getting a shuttle ride and trying to figure out the trails by myself, but in this case it was definitely worth it to pay for the local knowledge. Some of the more popular trails were closed due to construction and wildlife closures, so having a guide really made the difference. Once you ride the trails a few times, or are really good at following a GPS track, or have a local who can go with you, getting a shuttle ride up to Mount bachelor for $15 is a really killer deal. But for my first time in this area, getting 30+ miles of almost all singletrack in in one day was pretty spectacular. Our guide was fit competent, and funny. Having a tasty local microbrew at the end was an especially nice touch. I would definitely return and use this company again, either guide or shuttle, you can't go wrong. read more

3 buddies and myself did a "boys" trip up to oregon for some mtn biking with Cogwild. this was a phenomemal tour company. melanie handled all the pre-trip planning logistics so we didn't have to worry about a thing. our guides, Lev, Seth, and Erica were beyond professional....damn near perfect. our tour was the Umpqua river ride. 3 days at 13 miles each day of some of the sweetest single track i've ridden in ages! unlike most client relationships, the cogwild team acted like we were all just mtn biking buddies getting together for the weekend (except they cooked, set up camp, shuttled us and our bikes, gave pro bike tips, administered first aid, etc). they rode the trails with us and often offered to take pictures. always riding at our pace, giving encouragement during a steep climb or tricky obstacle. the food prepared was phenomenal. they cooked full on meals for breakfast and dinner (lunch was made by us...sandwiches and snacks) and there was never a loss for food or water. they offer bike rentals through the local bike shops. you can rent tents, bags, pads, pedals, helmets, everything you need if you don't want to bring a bunch of stuff. one of the best guided tours i've ever taken. on the way to the airport, my buddies and i were already planning for a trip next year. read more
