I am really late getting out this review and I hope the people who helped me are still there! I went to Cohen's this summer, I had lost my glasses and had a road trip from CT to New Jersey planned - I knew I wouldn't be able to drive without seeing! I needed a quick turn around and had checked with other vision places but the one I normally go to didn't have an eye doc on site and I couldn't find anyone who could see me on such short notice at several other places I called. I called Cohen's and this really nice guy (I forget his name, but we had the same birthday - May 17 ha ha) was so professional and nice I was almost in shock - most people in retail these days are rude and really couldn't care less about solving your problems! He was able to get me in, and an awesome staff member whose name I have now forgotten but she was so thorough and attentive and really really nice and THOROUGH. Then they zoomed in an eye doctor who went over everything with me. They were able to put lenses in a pair of glasses I already had (I had planned to use them for the computer after Lasik but never ended up getting Lasik) and turned them around the same day. I don't think I have ever had such a great, seamless, upbeat, communicative staff waiting on me in my life! They really genuinely care and want you to have a good experience. These were smart people and ridiculously nice. So here's my review, about three months late, but I hope they see it. Also I should add that Cohen's has some really beautiful frames - like I said I brought my own this time, but I'll definitely return to Cohen's when I need a new pair (and another eye exam). Awesome service! I bought 2 pairs of glasses almost 2yrs back and had a great experience - thoroughly satisfied with my frames and lenses. They have an amazing selection of high end brands and various styles to suit any personality. What brings me to today's review - I accidentally stepped on my favorite pair and killed the arm irreparably. my backup pair is lovely but more fancy than day to day wear. I went for my annual eye exam. I thought it would be convenient and I had used Cohens in the past at another location. Make sure to read everything fully (not sure it was even mentioned). When I made the appointment it was listed as in network. During my appointment, I found out the doctor was telehealth on a tv screen in the room. But I rolled with it because 2024. Then they told me the doctor who verified the contact prescription wasn't there on site either. After all is said and I done, they tell me that the provider who saw me virtually actually was out of network so I was responsible for that. GREAT EXP ERIENCE! I was probably the worst customer any outfit could have..after getting help picking out my 2 frames out of 100 choices, I later had a change of heart because I didn't feel like spending too much on my frames. I literally came by at least 3 x to let Cheryll know I was undecided. Cheryll never gave me any negative attitude which others might have easily done..instead she was very accommodating and cheerful and I felt that she really wanted to keep me happy. I thought she resolved and handled the issue fairly for both of us and I am the happiest customer. My fathers glasses were twisted with a lens popped out. I called Cohen to see if they repaired glasses and they told me to bring them in and they would see what they could do. I drove right over and they were honest in their assessment about their state. I told them I'd appreciate whatever they could do. And they fixed them!!! And they didn't charge me!!! The worst customer service I've seen in a long time. I went there with a Groupon and for the record it was pay $20 and get $300 off frames. I'm sure you guessed by now that the lens price is so over the top that giving the $300 off is no discount here. The Is includes the eye exam. I have my exam and they tell me all together my glasses will be over $800. That means with the coupon I would pay over $500. I explain I'm not prepared to pay that and this is where they get nasty. The girl tells me that if I don't buy them there they will charge me $59 for the exam. Fine I pay that and she refuses to give me the measurements so I can get glasses elsewhere. TAKING AWAY A STAR for NOT standing behind the product. The $600+ ( after the coupon) had a progressive prescription Were purchased from Cohen's less than one year before. I can't read without them. While in a business trip, the frame hinge broke leaving me stranded in Omaha. I was fortunate enough to find a jeweler who charge offered to weld the frame for $28 so I could complete my client appointments and trip. Upon returning home, I took the 45 minute drive to Cohen's and presented the glasses to them in the hopes that they would stand behind the purchase and swap out the frame. They told me they had one frame in stock but would charge me $149. I found that unacceptable. Their claim was that I had not purchased the insurance plan so I was not under warranty. When one person spends over $600 there is an expectation that the business will stand behind their service. They did not. They were all smiles when I was making the purchase and dismissive when I ask them for assistance. For that reason, I am deducting two stars and will not be returning there again. read more

The service was great. I love my new glasses! My prescription had changed and Murray was so great to find the perfect calculations. Cheryl the manager went beyond to see I was happy and taken care of and my initial sales person whose name escapes me, made me feel comfortable and with no pressure to buy, till I was ready. i had my worst eye exam here. I made an apt for an eye exam and was not informed that it would be done remotely. The optometrist zoomed in remotely and controlled the machine you look through that changes the lenses to read the letter chart across the room. She did not exam my retinas. And the exam seemed rushed. I had no confidence in the prescription she gave me, so it was a complete waste of money. I had to wait two months to for another exam with a real optometrist that was not done remotely at another office. I recommend not going to get your eye examined here. read more

READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO THERE: I went here because I was looking for a reputable place and found a nice coupon on their website for the eye exam (29$ for eye exam) I went in and everyone is extremely friendly at first, so I thought to myself "Ok, I like this" :) After the exam is done it's time to choose the glasses. This is where things got scary. I start sampling some glasses and found one I liked, the frame itself was in the 300-400$ range and with the lenses it would go to about 550$. So I told the lady I'd come back on friday to pay full price. She starts going HARDCORE on me talking about payment plans and etc.. and I repeated "I will be back another day" she begins to get EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE, now I know that they get their money on the glasses sales, the cheap exam is just to lure people in, but at the same time, if you want people to come back, shouldn't you be nicer and accept their wishes? It's a $500+ purchase, now, I make good money and to me, it's ludicrous to just splash that kind of money without at least going home and going over your finances. I bet she thought that because I used a coupon that I was a broke guy looking for a cheap exam and I had no intentions of buying the glasses there in first place, but that's her loss, I much rather help locals and I would have no problem buying it off her since she helped me pick a nice pair. So I say for the last time: "Listen, I swear I will be back, can I just have my prescription and think about it?" I wasn't even going to ask for the prescription because I was planning on getting the glasses there, but because she was getting pissed off at me not buying the glasses right there and then, she gave me a mean nasty look and left to get my prescription. She hands me a piece of paper that has 2 numbers, if you ever got an eye glasses prescription you know you need at least 6 numbers total maybe 7 if you include the PD SPH, CYL, AXIS & PD. She just gives me the SPH. I was going to go in there to complain, but it's no use, I rather go deal with an honest company that will not treat their customers like complete crap. The doctor was nice though, the sales woman was a nasty B*. Last time I got glasses in Waterbury (about 3 years ago) the doctor had no problem giving me a full prescription and told me I could go back to look at glasses anytime I wanted, I'm going back there and buy glasses off of them. read more

Don't go here. Robin promised lightweight prescription sunglasses. After having to pay in full 700+ upfront, they said the lab says cant be lightweight. Took 2 months to get a partial refund. They refuse to pay back 170. Because they said no refund policy and tried to put me in other frames. They were not sunglass frames! Just regular glasses frame, no wrap! Then after first saying cant do Maui Jim prescription frames, then said can, then tried to do in lab instead of sending to Maui as they require , were still heavy. (I got them from Raymond, featherweight! And only wanted a small deposit!) . So I could not get Sunglasses from them as sold me! I dont recommend this location. They also measure your PD with tape, no machine. The readers I got from them just didnt seem right. Turns out PD is off. I believe I should get a FULL refund. They lied, bullied . Today I called all around trying to find someone open and when I did they all couldn't see me for at least a week. When I called Cohen's Cheryl's very friendly voice answered and she said they could fit me in today. I made the appointment and headed to Danbury, I live in Hartford. When I got there they were obviously very busy it's Saturday but they made me feel acknowledged and even saw me a bit before my appointment time. Dr. Glasner was quick and thorough. Explaining to me exactly what astigmatism was and that my vision wasn't even all that bad we just had to correct the astigmatism. I went here after having a terrible experience at another vision place...and had a completely different experience. Went in for an exam, but it was towards the end of the day so we had to schedule for a different day later in the week. When I went back for the exam, they explained the cost with the insurance benefit before the exam (a big plus - the last place I went to didn't do this which was part of my problem with them). I thought the doctor did a good job, the exam didn't feel rushed and we did several trials with different contacts until we found the perfect one. Now for why I STRONGLY recommend this place... after the exam, it was time to pick out a pair of glasses -- well actually, whether or not I was going to get glasses in addition to my contacts. I can't say enough good things about the person who helped me (I will edit with her name once I find her card). I probably spent at least 20-30 minutes trying on frames and changing my mind between a couple lenses. She was extremely patient and friendly and you could tell she really cared about making sure I found a pair of glasses I really would like. She told me about the manufacturer rebate on the contact lenses, and when I showed her the price I paid for the contacts last year, she did all the math to figure out whether I would be better off getting the contacts online and use my insurance coverage for just glasses or whether to take advantage of their special with the frames with the purchase of the glasses. In the end, it would have been about $10-15 cheaper for me to just get the glasses through them and buy the contacts online but at that point, I was really impressed with her effort that I actually felt good about getting the contacts from there. I'm not sure about the prices for the frames since I didn't really shop around for them, but their price for my contacts were the same as 1800 Contacts and my friend's were I think actually a couple dollars cheaper. My friend saw a pair of glasses he liked in one of their catalogs - they ordered them for him just so that he could try them on to see if he liked them. The service here is outstanding and I recommend them for that alone...the competitive price is a bonus. Summary... Pros: Awesome service, competitive price, will order frames they don't have in stock, walk-in appts (unless you go late in the day) Con: smaller inventory of frames than the other store in the mall read more

The eye exam was fine, I felt really comfortable with the doctor and he took the time to do the job thoroughly and to make sure I was happy. The problem is the salespeople. They are aggressive, and while I did find a frame I really liked, they wanted $329.95 for just the frame, a frame that I later found out was discontinued. When I finally escaped their grasp with a copy of my prescription, I went online to see of the frames were really that expensive. The answer was no. The most expensive place on line showed a RETAIL of $179, but the going rate across multiple sites was around $115-$130. I guess Cohen's just takes Full Retail price and then marks it up another 75 to 100%, so they can make you feel good about the "discount" they sucker you in with. Simply slimy business practices. I wound up buying a genuine set of frames on eBay for $58. Add lenses for anywhere from $39 to $200 depending on your needs from reputable inline sources and you've got a full set of glasses for way less than Cohens wants for just the frames. I try not to use local stores for "show rooming" and then buy stuff online, I believe in supporting the local business, but Cohens made choice easy for me. I simply refuse to do business with people who turn it into a shell game with massively inflated prices and pseudo discounts. read more

Very 'sales' oriented staff...long story I ended up paying $500 for glasses that should have cost $300. DONT go here, I hear Costco has great frames. Great experience with Cohens optical and had to share. I live in buffalo and visit my GF in CT. I needed a new pair of glasses so I decided to get it in CT so my GF could help me pick. The people at Cohens were fantastic in letting me try on what must have been half of the store, giving me feedback and then eventually picking the perfect pair. Because I'm super blind, they told me it would take about a week to have them ready so I set up everything to have them shipped to buffalo. I kept waiting an waiting and still nothing ever arrived. And this is after $750 on the glasses. I finally called and found out that UPS had delivered them and left the glasses outside my apartment and someone must have taken them. UPS were of no help but Cohens called UPS and stayed in contact with me, even recommending specific forms to fill out. I was able to get all my money back thanks mainly to Cohens. You can buy a pair of glasses anywhere but the customer service here is second to none. read more
