I don't have enough time to list all of the wrongs that I encountered at this location. I will simply say if you value your money ,time and looking for a quality product that they stand behind, this place did not provide it for me. The representative Michelle in particular lacks professionalism and courtesy. She started out defensive and unwilling to help me with a simple fix. The negative reviews are there for a reason. If they had negative stars I would have gave them -5 .Simple fix gone wrong. From making an appointment to getting service I would rate her poor at best. (Update more in-depth) After verbal gymnastics, complaining to corporate speaking with the manager Joanna who was upset that the interaction would be reviewed on social media , I was finally routed to the owner who seemed reserved at first but finally offered options which included paying for new frames at a discount of 65 percent off. I had the frames for 5 months and hoped that the small piece that fell off the frames near the temple could be put back on or solicit the manufacturer for new frames as this was a defective frame ( was not an option ) He did take a look and brought them to another location and as of this post fixed them. This simple fix could have been handled at counter person level but Michelle said that the person who fixes glasses if I left them has lost peoples glasses and despite not having a tech on site like many other eyeglass stores , he only worked on Tuesday and Thursday. I explained that I work during the week and she became increasingly nasty as I tried to find a solution and questioned how many glasses has the repair person lost. She said he takes them from the store and if I left them it would be at my own risk ( What!!) trying to get statistics as to what my outcome would be , I asked her could she leave them in the store for repair . She still continued to dissuade me from doing so. Finally I begged ( yes begged) for her to help me at which point she then agreed to put a note that said fix in store and to my surprise she was also working on the day the repair person would be there ( shut the front door!! ) Why not offer this as the first option. When I called Tuesday to see if they were ready I spoke to Brandy who said they were not ready , upon questioning her about frames being removed off site she said that rarely happens . (Not what Michelle said)- On Thursday I received a call and was explained that the small decorative piece by the temple that fell off the frame and allowed the arm to not jut out could not be fixed and they suggested I glue it on myself ( $500 dollar Marc Jacob frames ) 5 months later!!! , I was passed to the manager who was defensive and irritated - no brainer because--( she mentioned at one point at a previous appointment I had in conversation with her that she had a negative interaction with another customer and she wanted to throw down with her . huh! - first red flag - should have ran out the door then ) She then passed me to the owner Olec , I asked can we send them back to the manufacturer. The owner said they are not actually made by Marc Jacob but by a frame company that has the license for the right to ( huh! , Not original- Wow , okay ) In the end they are currently fixed ( which could have avoided this whole negative encounter ) and I pray that nothing else goes wrong or I'm out of choices because upon picking them up I once again had to deal with Michelle who an attitude handed me my glasses in the same not original case , smudged and dirty and with no one available to make any final adjustments ( not that I had someone to do any adjustments upon picking them up originally at point of purchase) and I told her that her customer service was not good towards me and she said neither was mine.( huh!) I said you're not a nice person to your customer and she said neither am I and called the Police. When the police got there I explained exactly what happened. They stood there shaking their heads as I explained my story and the amount I paid for a frame that was not original Even they could see as I explained the encounter that it was ridiculous and petty. I further explained that Michelle suggested at one point in our conversations that I stepped on them . The officers looked at me and my size and agreed if so the glasses would have been destroyed. My courteous well mannered demeanor was met with the worst feeling about doing business I've ever had. I feel completely humiliated and taken advantage of. My significant other is a better person than I am. I've warned him to stay away from this place . He went to speak with someone regarding an eye exam and was given misinformation . After confirming with our insurance provider he walked in to advise the woman that she was incorrect . Feeling a little unsure about other things he asked this woman questions. I went here because they were a participating provider through UFT, and I had a very positive experience at the Astoria location a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, this franchise location was the polar opposite. While I believe the eye exam was good, when it came to figuring out what I needed in terms of my new prescription, everything else was subpar. I didn't fall in love with any of the frames, and decided to price out replacing my lenses in my glasses. I have Tom Ford frames already, purchased right before COVID. The sales associate tried to convince me that these frames had blue light protection; she kept trying to show me the "purple" in my lenses, which was nonexistent. Her tune changed when I said that I got these before COVID, and off went the $160 they tried to charge me. I then found out they were going to charge me another $150 for my contact lens exam; I never asked for one, and had assumed that it was just part of the exam (I don't remember paying for that before; and if I did, it certainly wasn't that much!). They had a sign on the door for a $129 exam... after some back and forth, they at least agreed to give me that. Once I decided to take my prescription elsewhere, the tone and demeanor of the associate changed completely. I just purchased glasses from Pair (with the thin lenses) and four accessories for $200; a fraction of what I would have paid at Cohen's. If you decide to go and are using UFT benefits, go for an eyeglasses exam only and take your prescription elsewhere. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!!! COHENS FASHION OPTICAL IN OCEANSIDE NEW YORK I just got off the phone with 2 rude saleswomen Joanna and Michele. Never in my life have I ever experienced such poor customer service. Obviously they hire a type!!! My husband purchased what we thought was a designer pair of prescription glasses 5 months ago. Apparently a decorative piece of the arm fell off while opening which caused the arm to extend further. My husband brought them back to have the piece, what he believed was a simple fix, to be glued. We were told today that they are unable to glue the decorative piece back on and that his only option was to come back and purchase another pair of frames at 50% off. I expressed how this was absolutely unacceptable and that the pair they sold us should be returned to Marc Jacobs, and a new pair should be replaced to us. They then proceeded to tell me that since he "stepped" on the glasses, they were not responsible and when THEY contacted his insurance company, they would not cover a second pair. He never stepped on them. He is 6'3" and 235 pounds. They would be crushed. MICHELE the sales rep was aggressive and repeatedly claiming in a low threatening voice that he "stepped" on them. There is a bullying mentality in this store. I expressed firmly that this was not an insurance issue on our part, but a defective product on their's. I also let them know that I would absolutely post a review on all social media platforms to enlighten future customers/victims. I made numerous phone calls to other Cohen fashion optical stores in the area to discover this is NOT something other Cohen franchises participate in but apparently exclusive to THIS FRANCHISE - in Oceanside. I was also informed that there has been numerous complaints about this location and that JOANNA AND MICHELE have an aggressive bullying attitude and other customers have had insurance issues and complaints of poor quality glasses. Cohen's Fashion Optical in Oceanside is awesome! My family received such warm, caring and helpful service. My youngest son and I went in for new glasses for us both. They had great options and were so helpful with us when picking our frames. When our glasses arrived they all fit well and there were no issues with the prescriptions at all. I went back in the store a couple of months later and Michelle remembered my family immediately. That was really important me! She greeted us and spoke to my son and really took the time to listen. EXTREMELY OVERPRICED! Paid $650 for frames that cost $120 online. Part of it is my fault for shopping there. I was excited to use my vision insurance benefits and found out they accepted my insurance. The benefits were a washed away with their expensive glasses. If you go there take the make and model number of the glasses and do a google search. You will unpleasantly surprised. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

Terrible customer service! Poor retail practices. They take advantage of you! Claim they don't know of their upcoming sales and won't adjust the charges within 24 hours of placing an order. Speak to manager Joanna, I cannot begin to tell you how unprofessional she was. Started our call very defensive and aggressive. She had already been informed of my issue, and my review on google, hence the aggression. Didn't let me get a word in response, and accused me of speaking over her, when I tried. Nasty unprofessional people! Went with my daughter to get a eye exam so she can get a prescription and they refused to give/ reveal the PD part unless we bought glasses there! She also spent $130 for a contact lenses RX too! Then I asked them to just read the PD off her glasses she wore in and that was a fight. They finally brought it in the back grabbing the glasses and came back with a number. When we left we had that PD checked elsewhere and sure enough as we suspected they purposely gave us the wrong PD out of spite . Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE else! I have been dealing with this location for many years and had no problems. I don't know if there are new owners, but my latest experience was horrible. I went in for new glasses in mid-July. After the exam I was told my glasses would be ready in 7-10 days. Three weeks later I received a call saying they finally came in. I tried them on, and they caused me to see double. I explained this to the salesperson and after checking they said something was wrong with the prescription and it would have to be corrected. Shortly after I left, they called and said the prescription was fine and I should see the doctor again. I returned the next day, saw a different doctor and they changed my prescription, even though I was told it was fine the day before. Again 7-10 days. I explained I was going on a trip and needed them, and they said they would put a rush on them. Well, three weeks later they came in and the same story. Now I was told it was probably because I had cataract's or maybe the start of diabetes. At this point I asked for a refund and was told there are no refunds, in fact I was lucky they were not charging me extra. I asked why and I was told by Michelle, who became extremely rude, it's not their fault the glasses are not to my satisfaction. I now asked to speak to the manager. Michelle told me she would not be in until next week. I said I would return. A week later I received a call from Michelle telling me not to come in because Joann, the Manager had no additional information for me. I asked to speak to her and was told she would call me back. I asked when and was told again by Michelle that she could not put a gun to Joann's head to force her to call. Surprise, no call. All and all a horrible experience with terrible customer service and I ended up with a $400 pair of glasses made to my two-year-old prescription. read more

First I would like to say that the eye doctor was so helpful, nice and professional. Also, I have never written a review before but felt so uncomfortable after this experience that I am writing one. Unfortunately, my experience with the rest of the staff here left me feeling as though I had been scammed. At first they were very friendly, but once I decided not to buy a pair of glasses or contacts I felt very differently. After my eye exam when I was looking at the small selection of glasses available, I decided that I did not want to spend over $800 on a pair of glasses that I did not love. At this point, the staff assisting who had already appeared frustrated that I wanted to try on more than one pair, became very pushy, trying to convince me of why I should make the purchase, leaving me to question: do they work on commission? Prior to my exam when reviewing my insurance, it was not explained to me that if I wanted to use my insurance to purchase glasses it would have to be done at that moment when they bill insurance for my eye exam, which left me feeling extremely pressured once again to make an $850 purchase that I didn't feel comfortable making. When I asked the staff why this was not explained when they initially reviewed my insurance, they answered with "you've never used insurance before?". I explained to them that this was not clear in my benefits and that I had never gotten an eye exam at an eyeglass store before, so I had not had this experience. I think this is something normally explained to customers and patients by professionals who deal with insurance. When I asked simple questions to better understand whether I could go to another location to see a bigger selection of frames, or any way I could make the best of this situation I found myself in, I was met with one pushy response after another, as if I was now a problem. I felt very misinformed and confused. I ended up paying out of pocket for both my eyeglasses and contact exam to avoid losing my insurance benefits for frames and lenses, and felt like it was a bait and switch operation. On top of this, I also had the experience of having to ask for my prescriptions, which I had just paid for. I mentioned that I had used 1800 contacts for contact lenses because they were less expensive. A staff member continued to mention this in a passive aggressive manner when the doctor gave them my contact prescription. I had to leave with an unverified copy and call back twice for both of my prescriptions. I felt very uncomfortable here and truly like it was a scam from start to finish. I will never go back and will never recommend this establishment to another person. read more

If I could give negative stars I would- For the first time since the pandemic as I am high risk due to my diabetes I went out and went to Cohen's Fashion Optical in Oceanside, NY on 7/9/2020 because my eyes needed to be checked, one is very bad and I need glasses. As per their website and them telling me over the phone they took my insurance I scheduled an appointment. As I got to my appointment I was told then they do not accept my insurance it would cost $50 for the exam. I said that was ok and went for my exam. After meeting with the Dr I then came out as the sales manager "Mary" told me she made a mistake and my insurance would cover the exam and up to $80 towards glasses. I picked out a pair of glasses that was not covered by insurance. I paid the difference for the glasses that was not covered by insurance and was told they would be ready Saturday, if not Saturday Tuesday the latest. I called to check on my glasses Tuesday morning they said they still weren't ready. I then decided to look online and found the same glasses for more then half the price they were selling them for in the store. My husband and I called back asking to speak to Mary the manager to find out why such a big price difference. I was told she was off on Tuesday but she would be in on Wednesday even though the store was closed and she would call me first thing. I didn't hear from her by Noon so I called and left a message. I did not hear from her all day. We then called the store Thursday morning and finally spoke to Mary. She asked that we send her the links of the glasses we saw online and she would call us right back. A few hours go by, we called they said she is busy and that she will call back. Again another few hours go by we call back she is still too busy. My husband then went to the store to find out what was going on, to find out if she could match or get close to the price of the glasses. She then gave him a hard time and said that they DO NOT accept my insurance. At that point my husband called me on the phone and we decided we just want our prescription we will order the glasses elsewhere to just give me a refund for the glasses and we will move on. The manager then lost it on my husband and said she was giving us a refund and REFUSED to give us my prescription. We explained how I am high risk to the Covid Virus due to my diabetes and can't keep going from store to store. She did not care and kicked my husband out of the store. We then called Corporate to explain the situation and find out how to get my prescription they basically told me that nothing could be done. read more

And if I wanted to get two pairs I would get a discount and only pay ....$1499. Are you kidding me ? This place is robbing people blind . NOT a place to bring a family. The store used to be Eye Supply. I went back to this location, not realizing that the store had changed hands, to buy my 8 yr old daughter a new pair of glasses. My insurance covers 180 dollars for frames and covers lenses completely, the only problem, they NEVER told me they were no longer taking my insurance at this store front location. They directed me to the glasses that were "covered" and sold me a pair of glasses that broke THREE hours after purchase. Make no mistake!!! If someone is willing of take advantage of a child they will take advantage of ANYONE! If you have money to spend on a lux pair of glasses go somewhere that operates with class. It's a money grab. I went in because I was having problems with my eyes after my Lasik surgery. The women that work there are amazing. Michelle and Christine are in the front. They make sure your appointments are scheduled. They help you pick out glasses. They are like having friends who work in the business.! And when I come into the store, they treat me like family. I have never had a better eye doctor in my life than Dr. Kim she is amazing. She has helped me so much after my surgery. She takes her time and listens to my complaints and my concerns and fixes them. I feel so comfortable going to this practice I sent my daughter, who intern brought her fiancé. whenever I talk to anybody about an eye doctor I always recommend this facility. I have now been going just about a year now. Not only do they have prescription glasses, but they also have Maui Jim's and other designer brands for sunglasses as well as regular glasses. read more

I came in on a Monday and the store manager Illyanna assisted me. She helped me find the perfect frames and processed my order quickly and efficiently. She was very polite, friendly and professional. I needed my glasses by that Friday and she made sure it happened by picking them up from another location (in the city) and even stayed late in the store to prepare them for me.
