When my first phone call was difficult to get through, it was a sign that there are other locksmiths in the sea. Person on the phone was ... cranky at best. If I knew all the locksmith lingo, I would do the work myself. It's a simple process: I tell you what I need done, and you say yes or no. No mocking. No laughing. Good: small business, trustworthy to do work when we weren't home, flexible, personable. We had a digital lock whose batteries ran out, so we called our condo association and Cohens was recommended and came out. They replaced the key portion and got batteries in, then kept the keys at their shop for us for weeks until I could finally get there and get them. They have a spit screen guard installed for safety, but they handled keys without masks so bring a little disinfectant for exchanged items. After having handymen come in a few times using the digital code we finally tried the keys and they didn't work. Lock just spun in a circle. Cohen came out and fixed it, again, with us not even home. I haven't used them but called the other day and love how helpful they were. I had a dead bolt that was stuck and didn't call until close to 5pm. Kevin advised me if I could wait it was obviously be better as I could get charged overtime for anything after 5pm. He tried to give me suggestions on how I could un-stick my deadbolt. Just the overall attitude was warm and helpful, and I would totally call them again if I need a locksmith. read more

I would highly recommend you choose this company. Very knowledgeable about all types of entry systems and locks. Had a great experience with Cohens Lock Service when I bought a new house they were fast neat and reasonably priced. In my last home Mark and his team added vintage locks and handles for my antique home. Once I moved he scheduled an appointment to change over the locks in the new place and was fast and clean. read more

I worked with Mark to replace the locks on my new home and I one hundred percent recommend Cohen's Key Shop! Mark is very knowledgeable, very professional, very good with communicating. He offered me multiple solutions from which to chose, which I appreciated. They fixed a door that was shut locked, they changed locks including installing a wireless keypad entry system, and they recycled whatever was salvageable from old knobs/locks/levers to create a knob with a lock for a basement room. I spoke to Nora on the phone, she was very polite and helpful. When I went into the shop she was out to lunch. An employee wearing a bandana around his head ignored me when I asked if he could help. He finally came to the counter after taking numerous phone calls and I think he only did that because another employee came in. He was extremely rude and unhelpful. I was trying to replace a digital door opener with a regular lock & key. He offered no suggestions, no details about which lock I should replace it with, etc. I finally walked out of the store and went to Amity Lock which solved my dilemma. AV, New Haven, Ct. read more

Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to use Cohen's Key Shop because they waited until they were already late for the appointment to call to inform me that they were running late due to two emergency calls they had received. The representative was extremely polite but the lack of consideration for my time is deplorable. If they had bothered to call me when they knew they would be late and not when they already were late, I would have gladly rescheduled with them. The thought of taking yet another morning off work to wait for an unreliable company does not sit well with me. I guess I'll be searching yelp for other options. read more

i recently had the experience of going to cohen's key shop, inc. my problem is that i bought a used 2004 volvo and only got one valet key and no fob. mark, one of the co-owners of cohen's, took the time 30-40 minutes looking through key books and then calling 3-4 other locksmiths to see if they the the required programable blank to make the key. unfortunately no one had the blank and he informed me that i would have to go to the volvo dealer to get the correct key. he then said that he could make a key for the doors but it would not start the car. that was fine with me because i feared locking my only key in the car. he took the time to go into the parking lot to see how deep the key went into the lock before cutting a door key. he made the key and it works fine. my point is that mark the owner truly took the time to find a solution to my problem. i did go to the volvo dealer and ordered a second full function (programed) valet key for $271+tax. cohen's, i believe, is the best locksmith in the state and i highly recommend them. their knowledge and customer service is extraordinary and i greatly appreciate the service i received. read more

Because I've used Cohen's regularly down 35 years in New Haven and liked them, I called him in an emergency. It was 1:30p. on the Friday before Labor Day. He came in an hour, parked discretely across the street and completed re-keying five locks in less than an hour. It can't get any better than that. read more

Front door lock broken. My call was answered immediately. Even on the weekend! Helped over the phone and when I was not strong enough to fix the last bit K. was at my house within 30 minutes and the lock was fixed, new parts installed, etc within another 20. Price very reasonable and service was amazing. Highly recommend. read more
