It can't compare to mom/grandma/auntie made but what can lol I would skip the garlic fries. They use jarlic which has a weird soir aftertaste. I really like the caramel macchiato here; much better than chains like Starbucks because you can actually taste the espresso. The service is hit or miss honestly. They're always pretty nice, even at 8 in the morning. However, there's definitely some workers that don't really pay attention. I order decaf because I have a heart problem and I've been served caffeine before for sure; I can tell easily based on how my heart reacts. I noticed the workers were prioritizing a friend's drink even though they ordered after me and they may have missed that it said decaf on the cup as a result. Giving 2 stars because I enjoy the taste of convenience of being right on campus but it's not so delicious that getting the wrong order is worth it. There's also extremely limited seating that usually taken up by others waiting or workers of the cafe so I just sit in the Student Community Center. read more

Despite the rising prices of everything due to the minimum wage going up in Davis, I love the Coho South Cafe. My brother actually introduced me to this little cafe on campus and their food is awesome. I highly recommend the toasted Chick Chipotle Sandwich. A warm hot sandwich with melted cheese, chicken, chipotle sauce topped with lettuce and tomatoes is literally one of my favorite foods on campus. They have similar offerings to the main CoHo, but they have less coffee and pastry varieties. Obscured from view is a small kitchen where they prepare their food. It can take a while so don't get food unless you can spare at least 15 minutes. My favorite pastry is their glazed scones. Their berry tart is actually quite good, but at $4.50, its a bit too pricey for coffee snack. The rice crispy treats are average, the cookies are average, and the muffins are average. Like the main CoHo, the expresso drinks are hit or miss. Since its student run, the baristas vary a lot so you never know if you're going to get a watered down cup of milk or an actual macchiato. read more

The Ciabatta sandwiches, coffees, and teas here are all good choices. I prefer going to this cafe for my dose of caffeine rather than the Silo Starbucks because the line there is just way too long. They also have small Grab-n-go items like fruit, yogurt, Odwalla/Naked juice, the works. Staff is also very friendly. The ciabatta sandwiches aren't out of this world but it's enough to satisfy. The BLT and beef havarti are my go-to's. CoHo South has a very small seating area, so don't expect to find a table to study. Instead, go inside the SCC, there are plenty of tables there depending on the day. Tables can be found outside as well. Be on the look out for 50% coffee during finals week! Best deal ever. This rating is for their service not the food. So I'm hella triggered by their service today. I've had some mouth sores the past few days so I've been eating soup based foods only. I was looking to buy a small soup but the cashier said they don't serve it until 11. It was 10:55. Idk their policy but knowing how long the lines can get, couldn't I have just ordered first and wait until 11 for them to serve it to me? I then said ok I'll take a chili cup and she said we don't serve that until 11 in the most unwelcoming tone ever. Why don't you suggest something for me instead of telling me what you don't have? I got out of line and waited with my friend who ordered a sandwich. I then decided to just get an oatmeal. The line was pretty much empty now and I was the only person in line and when I was next the cashier flipped her open sign to close once she saw me. Wow. What kind of attitude is that for a student worker who should be practicing friendly work etiquette? That's not all. My friend who ordered the sandwich had requested it to be cut in half but when she got it, it wasn't so she asked another cashier who came on shift for it to be cut in half and the cashier just snatched the bag from my friend's hand. Seriously? Like you may think this isn't a big thing or whatever but honestly that's some shit service and the manager in charge should really take action for some discipline in their students. I'm a student myself but tbh I would be so embarrassed and ashamed if I were them. I've tried to think of it from their perspective, maybe they're having a bad day but that should not affect how you work ESPECIALLY if you're working with customers. The service here is always in a timely matter, it's a small spot, but usually packed during the school year! The longest I've waited for food was 15min but I usually get my food or drink in about 5-10min. This goes to show you why students and staff like to get their food or coffee fix from here. The employees are students who are friendly and answer any questions you may have. They greet you and personally, it's one of my favorite spots on campus since it's also connected to the student community center. They usually have daily, weekly, or monthly deals and specials so keep an eye out for those! :) The portion sizes and prices are are super reasonable as well, especially if you're on that college student budget! read more

Other than though, it's a great place to grab something in between classes! The staff is always really friendly too. Student run so that's nice! Plus there's seating outside and inside (if you can find a spot though!). The only downside is that it gets super crowded, now that people have discovered how good the food is. Whenever that happens I usually walk over to the main COHO! It's pretty ok. The wait can get pretty long especially in between classes from 11-2. Chances of finding a seat in the SCC during lunch hours is close to impossible. The waiting area also gets really crowded. I don't expect great service and I don't get any. (but the workers are students and this is fast food service so it's understandable) The food is decent for the price. The only things I have tried are the chicken chipotle sandwich and the chili stack. The last time I've had the sandwich the price is around $5.75 (winter 2016). It tasted good but was super greasy. I have mixed feelings about the chili stack. The chili was good but the corn bread was so dry. But it was a filling meal for only $4.75. Pros: Good sized portion for an affordable price. This is about the black employee who was regularly rude to customers. Not sure if she still works there, but hopefully not since she lacked basic customer service skills. She kept wearing Alpha Chi Omega shirts and since i was a frequent customer, I saw her a lot. She talked down to a customer for not having the correct amount of money instead of just giving back change like a normal person. With me, she started talking about me right as I left, which was so unprofessional and mean. The next time I came by, she hid in the kitchen and just stood there drinking water to avoid ringing me up, then came back to the cash register after her coworker got me. Student-run, food is fresh and inexpensive. Baked goods, sandwiches, salads, wraps and snacks. Student staff are friendly and accommodating. A great place to grab coffee between classes. During finals week, coffee is half price. I filled up my personal mug for 75 cents. Check out the drink of the month - my fave so far is the strawberry basil lemonade, which was my drink of choice this summer. read more
