Really a 4.5, but I haven't had the best luck of eating in Davis, so this place was a great stop on the way to the Bay from Truckee. Cheapish eats, chip and salsa bar, quick and fresh food. There is both indoor seating and outdoor seating and it's located on the cutest street. The fish and shrimp tacos were great and filling, topped with so much crunchy cabbage, hiding the protein, but it was there. The flautas were delicious and the steak tacos had big, juicy bites of steak. The guac was weak (not an order but what came with flautas). It was more of a thick avocado salsa. Props to the great beer options - with some local varieties from Davis. We went when school was out for summer and it was still quite busy for dinner. I imagine during school days, it's packed. I see why this is on so many of the Yelp top places to eat: it's a great value with large portions and good eats. read more

The food was delish; my friends had mentioned they were going to eat here before going to Ikeda's later so our other friend and I joined them since I'd heard good things! I loved the quesabirria taco, which came with consommé and my Aggie taco was ok. The Aggie had so much cabbage my friend asked me if there was any fish inside. I assured her there was but it did take me about 4 bites before I found my way to it. Otherwise, everything was tasty! The blue corn tortilla on the Aggie taco was a nice touch since it's one of UC Davis' school colors. The service was great; everyone was friendly and I liked that they cleared away our empty plates often. I also love that they have a complimentary chips and salsa bar. My friends at I stopped at Guads Tacos and Beer for lunch. My friend recommended we try them out based on all the highly rated reviews. My friend ordered super nachos and when I tell you they were gigantic and chocked full of meat and toppings, at least 4 people can eat off of those and be full. I ordered the 2 item combonation plate with a chile rellano and a cheese enchilada that is served with bean and rice. The chile rellano and cheese enchilada was huge and the serving of beans and rice was very generous as well. The service isn't anything special. You order and pay for your food at the counter and they give you a number. There is plenty of both indoor and outdoor dining. They have a beverage station for your. Agua Fresca's. Guads is one of those places I keep coming back to because the food always hits. My shrimp tacos were fire -- a little spicier than I wanted, but still absolutely delicious. My husband inhaled his carne asada taco bowl and gave it a 10/10, even though it was hotter than usual too. The kids' bean, rice, and cheese burrito was massive, like "this could feed two small humans" massive, and totally worth the price. Their chicken quesadilla tasted good but fell apart because the chicken chunks were big and it needed more cheese to hold everything together. Now... the noise inside? Girl. It was like being inside a baseball stadium. My kids instantly slapped their hands over their ears and begged to sit outside. So glad we decided to give this taco shop a try, another great yelp find. Though we came here for the patio dining and ended up eating inside due to the patio being packed, we were not disappointed in the slightest. I got the super burrito with carne asada and an agua de horchata. The rest of my table got a asada crispy taco, quesabirria tacos, and a fish taco. They have a nice selection of every Jarritos including Tamarindo which made my mom happy. They also have a salsa bar and chips station next to their soda fountain and aguas frescas. The set up is that of a taco shop where you order at the register and they bring it to you. They then clean the table afterward so make sure to tip at the register. Met a girlfriend here for lunch. While she was looking for parking, I sat and waited. Guad's is a HOPPIN' place to be! There were so many people in line and not one table was open! When she got there, we got in line and ended up waiting about 10 minutes to get to the register. We both ordered a burrito bowl (chicken and carnitas). One of the biggest draws is the self-serve chips and salsa bar. The chips are so good and the selection of salsas and add-ons was awesome! We went outside and sat at one of the "bar" spots. Our food came out in about 10 minutes. The servings of salsa and guac on top were remarkable! We mixed up our bowls and dove in! It was a very hearty bowl and we were glad since it was not super cheap ($17.80). We sat at the table for almost 3 hours and the servers eventually came and grabbed our bowls and not once pressured us to leave. The place was so busy and buzzing with conversation. The Carnitas taco today was super tasty with crispy and, flavorful pork just how I like it. I also ordered a Carne Asada taco and chorizo taco. The Carne Asada taco was a bit plain for me, but the chorizo was really good. I love their chips and salsa bar. I had an Agua Fresca for my beverage and the choice of Horchata, Jamaica, and pineapple. The noise level inside is a little bit loud sometimes so we sat outside. Wish I could give this a 5, and I can. Really thinking about it, is it their fault they are sooooo good that there are 50 people waiting in line? Yes, it is but that's not a bad thing. For starters, we showed up at prime time rush on a Friday night in a college town. We waited in a jam packed space and ended up enjoying our dreaded outdoor table. It gave us just enough privacy and room to enjoy in such a tight space (bring a coat, though). One of the best Mexican spots I've tried in the Sacramento area! Every single thing I tried here was amazing. To start it off, the free chips which seem to be made in house, and the various types of salsa were great. Standouts of our meal was the al pastor vampiro and the davis special fish tacos. Obsessed with Guads, my go-to Davis comfort food as a grad student. I would always order one street taco with Al pastor and a crispy taco with asada, for under $9 total. You can get so full from the tacos plus unlimited chips and a variety of salsas + my favorite pickled cauliflower, carrot slices, and peppers mix. Service is solid. It gets really busy over dinner time, so I usually come earlier during the week of the school year around 5 pm to avoid the wait. One of the best restaurants in Davis and 100% the go-to Mexican restaurants. Price is great, portions are amazing, quality is great, and service is fast! Absolutely try it!! Food (10/10) - I don't think I've found better tacos than at guads. There speciality tacos are huge and are so filling. My cap is 3, which is just enough to crave a 4th but know that eating more will probably result in adverse effects LOL (this is also coming from someone who can down 7-8 standard street tacos). My original go-to was the quesabirria but I find that it gets a bit oily after the second taco. HOWEVER, this is definitely not saying that you shouldn't get it. I would recommend getting 1 or 2 and then trying something else on the menu. During my last visit, I tried the crispy taco and it's AMAZING. It's slightly cheaper than the quesabirria (since you don't get the consóme) but the variety you get from being able to choose that you want makes it 100% worth it. Also, if you're really craving that dipping taste, I would recommend getting one quesabirria and then 2 crispy tacos. I tried the marinated steak, al pastor, and chicken. My favorite of the 3 is definitely the al pastor! It has a nice, crispy texture from the taco shell which is elevated by the slightly crispy pork inside the taco. There's a great balance of cheese where you get a bite of the stretchy cheese with every taco bite. The guac that comes with it elevates it even further as it gives you a super creamy texture to enhance the richness of the cheese. If I had one thing I would recommend, it's to get some salsa to add an extra bit of kick. Some other items that I've tried are the loaded nacho fries and the burrito. The loaded nacho fries are pretty good but nothing super notable. I'm also not the biggest fan of burritos but the flavor was still great. Price (10/10) - If there's one thing Guad's has right, it's price and portion. It's SOOO worth. Personally, I wouldn't ever order the street tacos since their speciality tacos are just that much better for value. They're pretty ginormous tacos and only around $5 a taco is amazing. Even if you were to order the street tacos, they're absolutely loaded with meat (my friend was struggling to fold it). Service (8/10) - Good service! Nothing to write about. Food comes out pretty quickly. Long story short, ABSOLUTELY go to Guad's if you have a chance! Happy eating :D read more
