I went to Coin Mart today (6/18/26) and sold some old gold jewelry that I had. I had received quotes for repairs and the price was ridiculous. Sometimes the only thing you can do is sell the gold and turn around and buy new jewelry, or do whatever you want. Coin Mart was very welcoming and friendly. They examine your items right there in front of you. The process was done in a timely manner and I was very happy with the amount I received. Years ago, I once went to a different "We Buy Gold" company. They examined and weighed my items, then gave me a quote. I wasn't happy with the number so I said I'd think about it and left with my items. Then I went straight to Coin Mart. They quoted me a much larger number. Christopher owner just wasted my time I called ahead of time to see if they bought stones and gold and they said yes the guy Chris didn't even look closely at my rings and said right off the bat that they were synthetic stones and gave me a lowball offer. I went to a pawnshop and got $1000. I checked their web site 2 weeks ago and it said they were open on Saturdays. My husband and I drive down there to find them closed. I called them 2 weeks later on Friday and asked if they were in fact open on Saturdays. The man that answered said no. I asked him if he knew the web site still says they are. He didn't seem to care and said something about they just haven't gotten around to change it. I then asked if they were going to be open on Monday, MLK holiday. He tells me yes, 11to 6. My husband and I drove down on Monday to find them closed. I called them to make sure they were closed and got a voice mail that said they were open Mondays thru SATURDAY! It is a 30 minute drive for us. I will not be trying them again. I have been a customer of Coin Mart in Chula Vista for over 40 years. I always see Kurt the manager for anything I need. I have bought jewelry from him, sold jewelry to him. Kurt even made a custom piece for my 80 carat Aquarium loose stone I had. Recently I decided that I wanted a ladies Rolex 2 tone watch. He showed me what they had and they were not what I was looking for. Kurt told me that he would call around and find what I wanted. Once I got back home I looked online for ladies Rolex watches. So if you read my first review of Coin Mart, you know I originally purchased my wife's wedding ring set there in 1997. I wrote that review after going back to Coin Mart to upgrade the diamond in my wife's engagement ring for our 15th anniversary. Well, fast forward another ten years and I decided to get my wife a custom made band to match her original wedding band for our upcoming 25th anniversary. When we went in to the store a couple of months ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find Kurt still there. He sold me the original rings, was there for the diamond upgrade in 2013 and now would be part of this plan. We explained what we wanted and Kurt assured us that they use a very talented jewelry maker that could duplicate the original wedding band. Kurt said he was unsure how long the process would take but it could be a couple of months due to the fine craftsmanship involved, and he would keep in touch with updates. After about a month, Kurt called and said the ring would be ready in a few days. I told him we were going out of town for a couple of weeks on vacation. My wife expressed her desire to have the ring before our vacation, but we both knew this might not happen. We were to leave on a Tuesday and Kurt called to let me know the ring would be ready on Monday. This was great news! But an unexpected family issue came up and we would be unable to pick up the ring that day. I explained this to Kurt and he did not hesitate to offer to deliver the ring to our home that night. He knew how important it was for my wife to have her rings (now three of them soldered together) prior to our vacation. He had them wrapped in a beautiful box with a lovely card. We were so grateful and my wife was so touched that she cried. There is more to this absolute wonderful customer service story, but I'll leave it at that. This place sold me a ring 2 years ago that I tried to sell today to a WE BUY GOLD place. Tell me why they found that the ring that I bought from Coin Mart is not 10k gold. Its gold plated! The place I tried to do business with also found that my ring has a tiny inscription, and when I say tiny...I mean TINY. they had to show me with a magnifying glass. MADE IN CHINA!!! I quickly recovered my receipt that I kept from Coin Mart THANK GAWD, and sure enough. They wrote 10k gold w 0.5 carats of diamonds. I bought this piece of junk for 225$! I know nothing will get done about this and you know what... I'm not even expecting anything to be made right. I believe in karma most definitely. Don't go there for repairs I took my ring in for repair. A diamond fell out. So I paid for a new diamond to be mounted some cracks in the gold to be fixed and prongs built up. They sold me this ring 20 years ago so I thought they could fix it. It took over 6 x to the jeweler to repair. The prongs scratched me, and the base was cutting my finger after they fixed cracks in the gold band. They did fix it but it came at a cost. My ring bands are now different heights. See photo. Never felt so out of place, the most awkward interaction I've had any jewelry/gold dealer. I started with the fact that I was just moving into the coin market and did not know much. Came to coin mart trusting that's they'd be able to educate and start me out with investing into this market. The "store manager" helped me out but couldn't be bothered with any questions what so ever. I've never felt so worthless, like my money was not good enough. I don't know if it was my age, skin tone, or attire but I definitely did not get the impression that I was welcome. I won't let this experience deter me from investing since I do still see its benefits. My Burmese ruby wedding ring needed to be resized and I wanted it done right, with 18k gold. Kurt Reichert assured me over the phone that Coin Mart would do quality work with 18k gold. Well. Kurt Reichert is a snake. My vintage wedding ring was resized with 14k. He refunded me 60$ of the 288$ that I paid for two rings to be cleaned and resized. My rings were not cleaned. He knew he replaced the 18k with 14k gold. I could tell as he assayed the replacement gold on the ring. Please reconsider using Coin Mart as a place for quality jewelry. The manager is greedy and will sell you a cubic zirconia and charge you for a diamond. He will even tell you the CZ is a diamond to see if you will believe him. Go somewhere else. Second, I like the private lot, it saves me the trouble of walking a mile to get to where I want to be. + another star. Third, it's family owned. I had custom jewelry made at Coin Mart before. I wasn't too happy with the outcome as they made me some terribly awkward earrings that both curved in the same direction and had giant globs of gold hanging off the sides. Chris, one of the managers there, called me and fixed the problem. He had them made into two pendants. In the end I was a happy customer. However I would not recommend selling your gold or silver jewelry here! I sold them jewelry in the past and it makes me sick to realize how much I probably got taken for. Today I took in 98 grams of .925 silver and 13 grams of gold. The woman checked the silver and offered me $29!!! I checked the value of it before I went in using an online calculator and it was $107. Now I don't expect them to give market value. I understand they have a business to run, but they don't even pay 30% of scrap value!!! (and these were wearable pieces) I didn't even bother having the woman look at my gold pieces. (which I was contemplating having another custom pendant made. THEIR LOSS!) I was an idiot not to have educated myself before selling to them in the past. She tried to tell me it was because it was .925 and not pure silver. That's BS. I calculated the value at .925 silver at today's market rate of $37 per oz. There are calculators online. Easy to find using google. Just search for "precious metals calculator." CHECK YOUR JEWELRY'S WORTH BEFORE GOING IN THERE. If you don't have a scale, find out price per gram for whatever you are taking in and look at their scale when they weigh it. Or take my advice and don't go in there at all to sell your jewelry. You are better off with a private sale or a Pawn shop even!!! And that concludes any business I will conduct at Coin Mart. Which is a shame because I have A LOT of jewelry. A lot of inherited pieces and stuff my husband has bought over the years. This place came to mind because I've driven by it hundreds of times before and before I even looked at the reviews, I had a good feeling about it. Let alone, their reviews met my expectations. My boyfriend and I went to Coin Mart recently to look for an engagement ring, and Kurt was beyond helfpul. I think he disappeared into the back 3 different times to emerge with about 7 to 10 rings each time. On his last trip, I found the perfect ring. Something quite unique, which is another reason why I like Coin Mart: I like the idea of being able to purchase a piece of jewelry that others can't find at their local mall. Upon looking at the ring, my boyfriend and I inquired as to whether it would be possible to replace two of the smaller diamonds with saphhires. That was something we had noticed on a ring we had found at a chain store, and thought it would be great if we could personalize this one a bit more. Kurt said they could do it with no problem. Kurt also asked if we'd like to look at wedding bands. Since we were there we figured why not? He showed me one band, and when I explained what I liked and didn't like about it, he immediately produced exactly what I had in mind. Kurt quoted us a price for the set, and it was very doable. Not only that, but CM offers layaway, which is a nice option. When we expressed concern over the band and engagement ring fitting together, Kurt said they would be able to "bend" the band slightly so that the two rings would fit together. He said they would call us when it was completed; I believe he stated a week to 10 days. Well, we got a call a few days later and went to look at the rings. I cannot tell you how amazed I was at how well the rings fit together. It looked like they were a matching set! I was thoroughly impressed! The sapphires had replaced the diamonds in the ring, and looked great. The shades of the stones didn't match perfectly, and I'm slightly OCD so we inquired about that. Kurt and another gentleman in the store reminded us that since they're stones, they colors may not always be consistent, but they would do their best to ensure they matched. Again, we got a call a few days later and went in to look at the ring and again, I was impressed by their work! I can't wait to have both of these gorgeous pieces on my finger. Also, each time we've met with Kurt we've received a very nice Thank You note in the mail. I was sincerely touched by the show of appreciation. I felt valued as a customer; something most companies don't seem to take into consideration much these days. Let me tell you, these guys, especially Kurt, go above and beyond. This place is such a find! Wow! I've been searching for an antique-like ring high and low, and just couldn't find something I was in love with. I went to all the antique stores in La Jolla, and while they had some nice stuff, everything was priced sky-high. Coin mart is 100% honest in how they deal with customers. Kurt, who was helping me, showed me about 10 rings, and even went into the back to try to find something I'd like based on my description of what I was looking for. He even let me know which of the pieces he thought were the best quality (and he wasn't biased towards only expensive things!). I never felt pressured to buy the most expensive item, and he showed me plenty of rings that were well under my allotted budget. I got the feeling that he really is passionate about customer satisfaction, which I think is rare in businesses today. The other thing that is great about coin mart is that because they buy jewelry, they actually know what products they have, and the quality and other specifications about each piece. One issue with other antique or estate jewelry stores is that they often don't know what they have, or can't provide any authentication or other paperwork. Coin mart is very knowledgable, and is going to send me all of the appraisal documents, so I can be 100% confident in my purchase. I ended up buying a gorgeous estate ring in platinum, and I can't wait to get it after its done being resized.
