Harbortown Laundromat has plenty of machines, including a few of those extra big commercial washers that can crank out multiple loads at once. It has a television that was showing a Golden St./Washington Generals (or whomever the sacrificial lambs were) playoff game on my first visit and an extended Dr. Oz interview with Megyn Kelly on my second. I could have done without the latter - she has a daughter named, get this - Yardley - but it's still better than the infomercial crap they usually have running at Halfway Coin Laundry out in Eastpointe. The basketball game was pretty entertaining, not because it was competitive cause it wasn't, but because several older black dudes were gathered around to watch it and engaged in lots of boisterous barbershop type banter about the teams and the general state of the NBA. One guy was hating on Lebron so bad he refused to call the Cavaliers the champions! Since there's still no champion for the 2016/17 season, you know. That was the only point I couldn't help but interject myself into the conversation. "Oh, you wanna split hairs. Fine, they're the DEFENDING champions." His friend arguing the opposing line was so enamored of that I had to repeat myself. I mean, damn, I'll never root for an Ohio team besides the Mud Hens, but you have to give credit where credit is due. On my second visit to Harbor town Laundry I came in past midnight, dragging a bag of clothes to find the desk up front unmanned. I figured maybe they roll like that in the wee hours, relying on cameras to keep the peace/figure out what happened later. But a few minutes into my wash the same guy who was holding court with his buddies about basketball showed up, a grease-stained brown paper bag of food in tow. Even though things were very chill, with only 5 other people in and out of there during my laundry, he was a welcome sight. (I think the closest we came to a ruckus that night was when Megyn Kelly revealed she had a daughter named Yardley. This chick and her gay friend couldn't get over it. And really, why should they?) Harbortown Laundry is in a little strip mall on a quiet stretch of Mt. Elliott near Belle Isle. They have a couple of tables and chairs on the sidewalk out front, too, so if you want to get some fresh air on a nice night while eating flamin' hot Funyuns and drinking green Gatorade with some silly flavor name you can do that. This is a pretty good Laundromat and a pretty good place for people watching, too. It feels safer and is much cleaner than that depressing dump Halfway (House) Coin Laundry out on the other side of 8 Mile. And it stays open later than the Laundromat across from the Bronx. I expect to make many trips here.

While I've been washing here for years, and love the convenience and helpful staff, I will be taking my business elsewhere, being that I would hate to bring a roach into my clean home from this establishment. **It should always be clean in a business that provides cleaning services or any services for that matter.**

As I was searching, I came upon an advertisement for Soapy Pete's. Though the cost would add up to more, I decided to give it a try. I have been using the service weekly for about a month now. It is perfect for my lifestyle. I pack my laundry in bags they provide. One mesh bag is for special items and the other is for regular items. For example, I put everything that I don't want to go through the dryer in the mesh bag. They pick up my laundry from my workplace (they will pick up from your home, too, of course) on Tuesday. Then they return it on Wednesday. They follow the instructions in my profile. Those indicate temperature settings for washing and drying, detergent and softener brands, what to hang, and how to fold. Throughout the process, they send text (you can also choose email) alerts to remind me when pick up will be, the time the driver will arrive for pick up and delivery, etc. The drivers have been friendly and professional, taking more care than I expected to make sure that my items on hangers aren't going to fall and that my bras are not showing out to everyone. Fees for the service are per pound of laundry. The fees are lower for weekly pick up versus scheduling only when wanted. There is a minimum charge, though, so if you have a low volume of laundry, try it for a few weeks to determine which makes more sense for you.

I was there pretty late to closing time and was not rushed at all to finish up my laundry before midnight. This place was also very clean and I will definitely go back.
