The visit was short and sweet. Without checking my 93-year-old mother's mouth, and without…read morerequiring health clearance, they scheduled the surgery. We paid $1,140.50 in good faith up front. That was Feb. 3. We had a visit with her PCP on Feb. 4. He said she would be good to go if there would be NO sedation. I phoned the surgeon's office to confirm and was told she would be given an IV sedative. The PCP would not clear her without a cardiac workup. I immediately cancelled the surgery and asked for a refund. After numerous calls and a few emails requesting the refund and an email confirming the cancellation and the refund in process, I eventually spoke with someone in the office who was impatient and rude. She said she was waiting to see how much the insurance would pay, as my mother was charged for the consultation. She added that refunds are issued on the 15th of the month. This was in early March--one month after I cancelled the surgery. To date, we still have not received the refund, which, according to that person, was to be $869.50. The doctor was okay, the staff not so much. If you go to this doctor, do NOT pay up front. I now have to have my mother's bank dispute the charge to her debit card from Feb. 3. They ignored my requests for the email as well as my recent email asking for a receipt of the transaction that was supposed to be processed March 16. I do NOT recommend anyone doing business with this practice. It is now almost TWO MONTHS of requesting and being ignored a refund for a surgery that will not happen.

My insurance requested a predetermination explanation because the dental insurance would not cover part of the procedure. They refused to contact them and demanded full payment. They did not care about my child as a patient. I dropped them and getting a dentist who is checking on benefits first. If you care about your mental and physical health, including the health of anyone that you love,…read morePLEASE do not make an appointment here. The one star reviews are all you need to make the right decision. I learned the hard way, and had the most traumatic experience. If you live close to this Aspen Dental location, then I would highly suggest going to Mansfield Family Dentistry (100 Carlin Road, Mansfield, TX 76063). Ask for Terri, she is an absolute angel. The Bauers and the whole team were so kind, gentle, and actually took my pain seriously. Aspen Dental Mansfield should probably be shut down. Completely unprofessional staff - My 7:30 AM appointment started an hour late. There were 4 other patients waiting on the lobby at 7:30 AM and told me that she is always late. When the dentist finally arrived. She profusely explained that she lives 2 hours away. Patients have to suffer for her poor planning. My crown placement appointment should have been quick and seem less. Poor time management on her part and presents careless towards patients. The entire team takes after its lackadaisical leadership. Poor service/care quality - The dental assistant could not remove my temporary crown. The dentist could not remove my temporary crown. After explaining to them that I was in excruciating pain, my tooth is roughly being pulled and pried at. Remember those are 4+ more patients that she has to service? Right, so now she's rushing. After trying a few more tries at my temporary crown, the dentist reclines my chair and starts drilling my teeth without local anesthetics. I tell her that she is hurting me, she then administers a few injections but immediately continue drilling my teeth. She didn't give time for my mouth to go numb. I still felt everything. I threw my hands up to stop treatment and made them sit me up. I needed a breather. I was so uncomfortable and I felt completely unsafe. After 3 hours of turmoil. I finally left with my permanent crown. However I was back at the office within the hour because my heavy porcelain crown fell out of my mouth, it was placed with temporary cement. $$$$$ - I requested they go line by line of what I was paying. They automatically include an electric toothbrush and other things that I did not need. There were so many line items that I had removed from my bill it was ridiculous. I will never be back. They are not sorry for the traumatic experiences they enlist on their patients. They are careless and cold. Don't bother calling the "Customer Service Team" to address your concerns.

I understand, the practice is busy- but you easily feel like just another number getting your wisdom teeth removed. The staff had pretty much zero medical knowledge outside of their programmed procedures and that's pretty unsettling considering they put people under day after day.

The procedure and results: I went in to have all 4 wisdom…read moreteeth, which were erupted, extracted. This is a common and simple process (so I was told). It all went as planned. I didn't feel anything during the procedure, and the recovery has been going just like the Dr. said. No real pain just a little sore and a different feeling in my mouth. So 5 stars to the doctor here. Did what he said he would do, and informed me well of the procedure/recovery. The Dr: 4 stars Dr Sheppard was professional, knowledgeable, and to the point. I had to knock him down the one star because he appeared to busy. He did take time to answer all my questions during the consultation. However the day of the procedure he only said a quick word before starting, and didn't take time to engage me again with last minute questions I may have or to reassure me. After the procedure he never talked to me again even though he walked by twice. He did give me a literal thumbs up to see if I was okay. But again, he could have asked how I was or told me everything went well etc. but he appeared to busy and had to get to his next patient. I still have to go back for a follow up visit in a few days so we will see if it is different then. The staff: 5 stars I was able to get a consulting appointment and procedure appointment with no problem! It was so easy it actually made me wonder if they didn't have other patients, which made me worry that he wasn't a good Dr. But I can assure you that there was a lot of people going through there when I was in the office. I guess that explains what I was saying above, about the Dr being to busy. The staff was well informed, nice, professional, and asked how I was doing several times after the procedure. I tried to use my FSA account to pay, but the debit card was declined. Not sure if it was a problem on the FSA end or if the Dr office is setup with the wrong account code. Either way they gave me a detailed receipt to submit. I somehow lost the receipt and called for a replacement. They emailed it to me while we were on the phone. Great service. Lastly the goody bag was a nice touch. It had everything you need to care for your recovery, a FAQ sheet and even a pack of ramen noodle. I know it only cost $0.10 but it is a nice touch! If you are still reading I would recommend Dr. Sheppard!! I would rather have a Dr that does a great job and doesn't talk much vs a Dr that Talks a good game and then butchers me.
