When Cold Stone first opened in the Chicago area, I felt like I had been to Ice Cream heaven. Who doesn't love the idea of basically creating your own flavor? The concept seemed to flourish at first, but so many stores have seemed to close since then. As for the Evanston location, I agree with some of the other comments posted here. The store is extremely cramped and the staff seems ambivalent about helping the customers. Every other location I have been to has to sing when a tip is put in the jar. The woman who waited on us said that they don't do that at their location. That is supposed to be part of the fun. The Ice Cream was excellent as always, but Cold Stone's novelty seems to be wearing off. read more

We stopped in at this Cold Stone during our recent visit to Chicago. We were met with friendly service and delicious ice cream!! We met the owner, who checked in with us to make sure we had a good experience and asked for our feedback. From the Yelp reviews and our experience, it seems this location is under new (good) management. The space was really clean and it looks like they have some upgrades. This location is small, but they have enough seating inside and the owner said they will get outdoor seating when the weather warms up. I hope we can come back in the summer when they've put tables and chairs outside on the sidewalk. Definitely stop by when you're in Evanston! read more

Pretty average ice cream shop. I ordered the banana ice cream with gummy bears. The gummy bears were rock hard. I'm hoping this is because the ice cream made them cold and not because they were old. The brownie ice cream thing we ordered was also decent, but the brownies weren't as warm as we would have liked. Cold Stone does not honor business hours. I went to the store around 1:30 and no one was there. The sign posted lists business hours as noon - 10 so I decided to call the number listed. Surprisingly, I received an answer informing me that the store was open. I said okay and went back to make sure I wasn't pushing a door that said pull. Nothing. I ordered a cake for fathers day four days in advance via the internet and received a confirmation email for the order and the pick up time and of course they credited my credit car for the purchase. However, once I arrived to pick up my order on fathers day they had no record of the order. The clerk had no clue and I was told that the person who makes the cakes quit. Like what does that have to do with my cake that was already paid for. It took them 30 minutes for them to figure out how to handle and finally my only option was to pick out one that was in the freezer, although it was not what I ordered! The employees seemed to be totally clueless and unprofessional. I strongly suggest customer service training. This was my first and LAST time I will purchase anything from this establishment. read more

I've been to many of them and this one is most definitely the cleanest and most well stocked, not to mention the welcoming greeting I received as I walked in the door! Its very common for this location to regularly run of the most common flavors of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, coffee). At least 4-5 times this has happened - not sure if the operators of this location know how to forecast demand and have supply on hand. I also refuse to believe they do not have extra supply in the back. The employees working there do not care at all - I echo my experience as others have posted here. I've eaten at one other Cold Stone location which was in Chicago, but I was kind of unimpressed by the lack of seating in the location and the packs of silly high school and college aged kids who backed this place up like an old fart with a bad case of constipation. Plus not to mention the excessive chatting that the staff was doing was not helping to get orders completed so customers could leave. I am only giving them 4 stars for making a kick ass sundae with my favorite toppings. It's not really wheelchair accessible per se because you would have to go to this place during the time when kids are not flooding this place and congregating. It's ideal an after-dinner dessert if the place you ate at had choices that were not to your liking, but to see high schoolers and college students congregating in the place is pointless due to the fact that the location is too small to have crowds of people standing around and not leaving after completing and eating their orders. They need to have better crowd control meaning that once you've eaten you leave not to stick around after you ate to talk and goof around. read more

This is the WORST Cold Stone I have ever been to. The staff was super incompetent and took forever to take our orders and were really rude to the customers in front of us (not us though). We bought a Groupon equivalent and they didn't know how to scan it in and just gave us the Groupon deal which was ridiculous since it was really different! (The groupon deal was, i think, $5 for $10 and our deal from a competing site was $10 for $20, so I technically just paid full price and they charged us extra!) The ladies working both have never heard of the deal, so if one their managers are obviously oblivious for not telling them about it. I have never actually had this horrible of experience at a Cold Stone in my life (I usually love Cold Stone). If you are craving ice cream in downtown Evanston and plan on spending a decent amount of money, then just go to the Andy's Frozen Custard a few blocks away - so much better. read more

There were two employees there but only one of them was making ice cream or working the cash register, the other was folding boxes in back while the line continually got longer. Brought the children in after a class at Northwestern in mid July (peak ice cream season ) and Coldstone had seven flavors MISSING--their most popular ones! They claimed that their shipment had not arrived, but this is pretty routine at this location. I ask this question. Who DOESNT like ice cream? Most people love it! My little brother is one of those ice cream fanatics. He can have them in a sweltering hot summer day in Chicago or a blistering frigid 30 below day in the city. As the baby of the family, I HAD to get him an ice cream cake to celebrate his High School Graduation this past June. I called to numerous bakeries and no one was able to have one ready within 24 hours. Then I thought, Coldstone will save the day? (right?) First...I called the Ravenswood: Lincoln Ave location since it was closest to me, NO ONE answers the phone there. Left 2 msgs. Needless to say, I STILL havent heard back. Second....I contacted the next closest location, this location (Sherman Ave) and the guy who picked up was nice and accommodating and said he'll have it ready for pick-up the following day. Had my older brother pick up the cake since it was already out of my way. I PRE-PAID it over the phone to make it easier on him and all he had to do was grab and go. When the payment cleared on my debit card a few days later, these people tacked on more money from the initial quote I received. (For what, you ask? I have no idea.) I called the location to complain. Whoever answered the phone seemed to be helpful and even confirmed that it was wrong. He even asked what day I order it. He said there was only 1 guy there that night and knew who it was (suspicious? I'd say so) Finally he said he'll have the manager/owner, Tushar, call me. No call. Called again a few days later and asked for his personal #. Left a vm, and still nothing. I dont know what type of business they're running, but they're very deceiving. You DO NOT tack on any amount from the quoted price for funsies. That's just wrong. And when I tried to get my money back, even the owner ignored me. I'm writing this to warn people of how dishonest they are. Beware guys. I've been totally turned off by Coldstone in general because of this. I LOVE Cold Stone...but not this one. The service is okay...I guess. Really, the last straw for me was when I kept trying to order something to eat, and they were out of almost every flavor of ice cream. My dad asked them if they were closing for good or something, since there was almost nothing in the store, and the guy behind the counter shrugged and (rudely) replied, (Uhh...it's WINTER.) Go to Andy's or Ben & Jerry's...I was greeted by a worker sitting down behind the counter eating a Subway sandwich where the ice cream toppings were - (HAS to be against health code. What if a customer had celiac disease? I have a friend who cannot even eat off of a plate that has been touched by bread - the allergic reaction can be deadly.) Then another high school girl came out of the back to take my order. Toppings were scarce and she barely mixed it. She was nice, but service was just ok. Pieces of my brownie scattered off to the side and she either didn't notice due to talking to her Subway eating friend or didn't care because it wasn't her ice cream, so they were left out of my cup. Not impressed overall and will be going to Ben & Jerry's next time, even if that means I have to drive a couple miles instead of walking a few blocks to get to this Cold Stone. Andy's would be great as well, but I personally do not prefer custard. read more

Do Not Ever Come Here!! This is my second time trying to obtain service at this location. I don't know why I even gave them that much of my time in the first place. This has to be the most unprofessional cold stone I have ever been to. My very first time I came I was told that they were out of most of their ice cream flavors due to the crowd they had from a college game that was going on earlier in the day. Mind you I was coming in around 2pm. Not only were they unapologetic, but they had the audacity to continue to keep the place open! What do you mean you ran out of ice cream, YOU ARE AN ICE CREAM PLACE! That is what you sell! This was at 2pm on a weekday! Not a good first impression. I should have learned from my first impression that this may not be a store I should take seriously , but I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and a second chance. I shouldn't have. Shame on me for being gullible and returning again today. When I came to the store today,I was met with a locked door and a sign on the door stating that the store would reopen in 10 minutes. So I had to wait outside of a business that was supposed to be open per their listed store hours, until the employee finally decided to return, with a bag of fast food in hand. Extremely unprofessional. There was no explanation for why the store was closed or any apology made for making me wait. When I finally got to place my order, I was told they were out of the ingredients I was requesting. Lame. Always out of product. So over all, I have repeatedly been disappointed by this Sherman Cold stone. Every time I have come to this location there has been some issue.I have definitely learned my lesson this time. I will never come back here again. The customer service is nonexistent and they are always out of products. If you were smart, you wouldn't either. read more
