There is only one table and a family was sitting at it, so I got comfortable on a nearby bench to enjoy Silk almond milk chocolate dessert.

I don't know why I'm so out of the loop with what's going on in Lincoln Park, but just like a restaurant across the street from here, I have NEVER heard of this place. I used to hang out in this area for three years straight for dance class and grad school and just totally overlooked it. It was founded in 1988, and I have no clue when it came to Chicago though so maybe I didn't. I just had a sweet tooth after leaving Blue Sushi across the street (and didn't realize they had a dessert menu). I could not care less about cake, donuts or pie, but I can demolish ice cream and/or candy like nobody's business. The problem is, as a second-round vegan, it's tough for me to find nondairy desserts. I poked my head in here 99.9% sure they were going to say everything was dairy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had a new Silk chocolate almond milk ice cream. I wish I caught the lady's name that was there today because she was so bubbly and friendly. When I stared at her in confusion after she asked me did I want "Like it, Love It or Gotta Have It," I realized this order was about to be involved. I like the way that the employees mix your toppings around in the ice cream instead of dumping them on top where you end up eating them way too fast. A family member stopped to take my pic while I tasted a spoonful, and I guess I looked extra happy because I caught the lady behind the counter smile as big as I did. Happiness is contagious. Anyway, love the place. Love my almond milk frozen dessert. There's only one table to sit at and someone was there, so I flopped down on a nearby bench and enjoyed my birthday sweet!

Worst employees ever. The one with her face covered in pimple patches creates a biohazard. She is short and sickly with a dark hyper-pigmented complexion. She stood over the ice cream mixing station picking at her pimple patches for over an hour before she cancelled my order. I had to re order and drive downtown to pick up coldstone for a birthday party. Horrible service.

The best ice cream in the area, with such a wonderful staff that excels in making an ice cream to your hearts content!! If you want to create something Limited Edition, with ingredients of your choice to be devoured on a hot day; or shared amongst your friends. Why settle for something bland, when you could have a very sweet, savory, and exquisite treat!! And the owner, whoever he is was a delight in these tough times

I love that you can create your own ice cream or shake! They have the basic flavors plus a little more. But, you can mix it all up with endless possibilities! They have so many yummy topics that it's almost hard to pass up! I'm glad they don't weight the ice cream with toppings (like fro-yo places). The place was quite small and tight with, I believe, just 2-3 tables. There were 2 employees. Every time we have gone (2 times to be exact), we have been satisfied but suffered brain freeze.

Great ice cream, and better service from the wonderful kids working! Will definitely revisit again

Was craving some ice cream so stopped by for some dessert. Oreo overload is delicious if you love cookies and cream. The portion is pretty big so I usually get a small. Sometimes the long can get long due to the lack of employees. Seems to be the case for every cold stone places I've been to.

I thought I would love this place but unfortunately they had no air conditioner on and the ice creams were already melting while we were buying and I orders cheese ice cream and it taste like yogurt they are reasonable but not worth it I might not come back, they were clean but not wearing gloves while serving the customers

    Too many choices
    Jennifer S.

I've never ordered one of their signature ice creams (with 3 mix ins) because they're so expensive. But we were celebrating so I gave the summer cheesecake a try. This is a waffle cone with cheesecake ice cream, gram cracker crust , strawberries and blueberries. The flavor was great l, but for $6, I can go to a truly boutique ice cream shop like Jeni's and get three mini scoops of fresh made ice cream with better ingredients. Also, the strawberries and blueberries weren't fresh. They had that awful syrup on them. I do like cold stone for the experience of watching them mix in your ice cream, but I just can't justify the cost.

Birthday cake with my added toppings.. Nothing but ice cycles!

It was pricey but enough for 2 people to share. Metered parking on a weekend evening was easy. My only complaint is that it had a strange, unpleasant smell inside (we were there in the evening during the weekend of April 25th). Also, when I came a few years ago, it had a really cozy, welcoming vibe packed with comfy couches. Now, it just looks like basic tables and plastic chairs, lacking comfort, character, and charm. I'm hoping to return to try the sweet potato latte and the other shaved ices, but I hope they do something about the smell and make the space feel more cozy and inviting.

I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat. There are spots close to Vaca's but during peak times especially it's all luck on getting one. We parked in a garage just around the corner and walked. Vaca's is a pretty big store front/space with tables inside. It's counter service style and you order and then your order comes up and they call your name. The store/restaurant space was very clean, and cutely decorated. Staff were friendly and welcoming as we ordered. While my best friend was visiting, she saw a post on Vaca's social media about their corn soft serve leaving September 1st, and we decided we had to try it before it left. We each ordered one of the special corn soft serve in a corn cone and dipped in a (vegan) butter ... shell? dip? I'm not sure how to refer to that! This cone is giant, I need to be so clear. I was impressed with the size of the cone and they fill it all the way up with soft serve. The texture is remarkably smooth and the flavor was really perfect. If I didn't know this was a corn flavor, I'm not sure I would have known it was corn as opposed to maybe "sweet cream" or something more mild, but this was a perfect ice cream. I could eat this particular soft serve for the rest of my life and be so satisfied. The cone was really crunchy and also a more mild flavor. The corn soft serve was so delicious that I would definitely try anything else on their menu and it leaves me excited to try more seasonal offerings in the future. I'm so curious about other flavors and options on their menu, and was really impressed with the quality my order. Thank you so much, Vaca's, for a great treat with my best friend!

My husband got the mint chocolate sundae which he also really enjoyed! It's vegan ice cream, so expect it to be a little less creamy and melt a little quicker. That being said, it's the best vegan ice cream I've ever had. Super good, and will definitely come back!

Back then, the ice cream was outstanding, and the experience matched its reputation. Today, I live in Glenview, so we usually go to Oberweis because it's much closer. Their ice cream is consistently excellent, and the stores are always clean and well maintained. We decided to give Homer's another try the other night, and it was honestly very disappointing. The building looks like it hasn't been updated in years. The paint is peeling, the ceiling tiles are stained and dirty, and the entire place feels worn out and neglected. After all the success Homer's has had over the decades, it's surprising that more hasn't been invested back into the store. Even more disappointing was the ice cream itself. I don't know if the recipe has changed, but the texture and overall quality were nowhere near what I remember. It honestly reminded me of inexpensive, mass-produced ice cream rather than the premium product Homer's was once known for. Of all the local ice cream shops in the area, this was my least favorite experience. It's really a shame because Homer's was once an institution on the North Shore with an incredible reputation. I sincerely hope the owners take a hard look at both the condition of the store and the quality of the product. This place deserves better than what it's become. Unfortunately, after this visit, I won't be returning.
