I'm very torn to write this review. I've been a customer since the late 70s when Patricia Cole was the owner. I notice most of the 5* reviews were written prior to 2022. But times have changed. I have referred several people and their pets over the years, but after a devastating week and loss of my friend's dog, I am unlikely to refer anyone else. Buddicelli Dre was diagnosed with a severe heart condition in December 2023. We knew he would not last much longer but we were encouraged when Dr. Phillips said some dogs can live an additional two years. We followed the medication protocol and all seemed to be going well. We had the doctor listen to his heart after three mos and he said his heart sounded "really good." He told her to bring him back at the six month mark (end of July) for another evaluation. At the beginning of July he began to cough again, and had muscle tremor/twitching in his right rear leg. At that point there was a medication change from the ACE Inhibitor to a calcium channel blocker. First two days were fine, and then he was having what looked like a seizure, but Dr. Phillips thought it might be syncope. He did an EKG. Two days later he called to say Buddicelli had AFIB. He said "this is not fatal." I will prescribe Diltiazam, but I dont have it here, so I will call your pharmacy." CVS would have had the medication ready that evening, but the doctor neglected to put his name on the prescription and CVS needed to contact him. We waited a full 24 hours without this medication while the pharmacy tried to reach him. I called the vet clinic several times the next day beginning at 7:45am. The other vet did not want to get involved for political reasons and because Dr. Phillips neglected to leave notes. Two days later, Buddicelli was not doing well (Sunday night). I texted Dr. Phillips and an hour later he texted to say he was out if town and would be traveling back Monday morning and we should take him to an Emergency hospital. I drove Buddicelli and his "mom" to the emergency clinic. The ER doctor was very good and professional, but she was concerned as to why his vet did not follow the initial recommendation of medication and protocol from the cardiologist back in January. His heart was very enlarged and his heart rate at that point was 180. She increased the Diltiazem. Buddicelli died a week later. My sadness over the death of Buddicelli is immeasurable; as is the pain and expense that his "mom" went through. No one has bothered to call from Cole Clinic to share their condolences. I am heartsick. Since Michael Cole died, there have been several changes within the clinic. I am sad that Dr. Phillips seems to be at a point in his life that the veterinary practice is not his priority. I am angry that the other Dr. is afraid to get in the middle for political reason, while innocent animals are suffering. It is irresponsible to not leave patient notes. It is irresponsible if a doctor is going on holiday or off the premises for any reason to not have coverage by another vet. It is irresponsible and cruel to neglect and abandon those innocent patients whose lives are in your care. Buddicelli trusted me (caretaker) and his mom.....AND WE TRUSTED the doctors at Cole. They not only made Finnegan feel comfortable but they gave her the right medication to stop the symptoms whereas the other docs just loaded her with pain pills and sedatives - which made her even worse. Vets are known to add on things to bills and add services or medicine that isn't really needed, there's countless jokes and tv cameos about this, and many people have unfortunately found this to be true. I'm lucky that I've found these vets and this clinic. They truly care about the animals and not about the money. I've left my dogs here multiple times for one to up to over two weeks boarding at the clinic. The girls are always excited to come here, and always leave happy and smelling great because they go above and beyond to even groom them clean them up before picking them up. Update 4 days after that visit my dog passed away when I had to euthanize her. Due to the shot that I questioned, she bled internally then out through her rectum in bed next to me. If you looked up "uncompassionate" in the dictionary, you would see a picture of the gum-smacking, dismissive, aggressive, unprofessional, and unsympathetic, Dr. Kelly Phillips, vet and owner of Cole Animal Clinic. This Clinic once HAD a great reputation but founding owner, animal lover and enthusiast, Dr. Michael Elton Cole, passed away suddenly in 2017. Since then, Dr. Phillips has single-handedly driven this once amazing animal clinic into the ground with his obvious greed and superiority complex which is by and large, falsely inflated as his vet skills are sub-par at best. Three weeks ago, my 13-year-old cat was having a malodorous smell in his mouth. They told us he needed to have dental surgery "right away" to extract some teeth. Prior to that, my cat was in good health. Well taken care of, fed the best food, given lots of love, indoors always, etc. They took his labs, charged us for an office visit and meds which was several hundred dollars. We took him in for dental surgery which of course ended up being extremely pricy and we were not told the final amount that would be due until pick-up (only an estimate which was grossly underestimated). We paid over a THOUSAND. A week later, our cat is weak, lethargic, not eating very well, legs slipping out from under him when he walks, crying out in pain and the malodorous smell returns. We take him in to Cole's. Again. And what does Dr. Phillips do? Exactly what a person does who operates his business on greed and dishonesty with no regard for any furry family member that you may have. Dr. Phillips ordered every test known, more bloodwork, office visit charge, injections, etc. This is something in the ER that we call, "playing darts." It's when a doctor who has awful diagnostic skills but knows if he throws enough darts, something will stick. And guess who foots the bill for Dr. Phillips lack of veterinary diagnostic skills? The customer. So now my bill is close to $2,000 in 3 weeks. I have no answers. So I go home. I call the hospital multiple times to find out bloodwork and test results...no call back. I ask to speak to the office manager...no call back. I go in Tuesday to speak to someone because my cat looks awful. But I'm told that Dr. Phillips is on a 2.5 hour lunch break. No call back. And a couple days later, my cat is jaundice, barely breathing, limp...I go to Cole Animal Clinic. I ask to see the doctor as I know at this point, my cat is almost dead and I explain to the medical assistant between tears that he does not need his weight and temperature taken, rather he is going to need to be euthanized. A few minutes later, the front desk secretary comes into the room and says that she's sorry but the doctor won't come into the room to see my cat because his "time is very valuable" and that I must pay an "office visit" charge in addition to an exorbitant euthanizing charge, a cremation charge as well as any other "up-sells" that they can convince a grieving pet mom to purchase prior to the death of their beloved pet. As my cat is agonal breathing, Dr. Phillips bursts into the room shouting and demanding to know, "what's going on here." I tell him how I've spent close to $2,000 in 3-weeks at his animal hospital and now my cat is dying and I need to put him to sleep. He retorts, "Oh yeah, what are you thinking...I give my services out for free? You need to pay an office visit before I even glance at your cat." He continued to berate me for another 20-minutes about how good pet owners are not concerned with cost, and how he has done cost comparisons with other area pet clinics (Cole is the most expensive vets in the area), how he doesn't tell the customer ahead of time on the costs of services like ultrasounds or X-rays because it shouldn't matter and he doesn't call with your pet's results as it's YOUR responsibility to call him for results. He goes on to say that he went into the hospital recently for himself and had a $26K bill and he "didn't complain or ask about cost." And all throughout this, he loudly smacks his gum as I try to swallow back my sobs. Finally, I tell him that I wouldn't trust him to put my cat to rest after the awful things he said to me. I picked up my lifeless cat and left. By the sheer grace of God, I found an amazing animal hospital that was night and day from how Cole operates. Empathy, genuine love of animals, warmth and solicitude was the theme there in which I will review at a later date. They said my pet's death could have been avoided if Cole was timely in the diagnosis and treatment of my pet. But instead I spent 70% more for the SAME services that Dr. Phillips provided with the difference of him not having a clue diagnoses if it bit him on the butt and hence, a failed treatment plan. I will never gamble on my pet coming home dead or alive by going there again. I truly wish that this kind of atrocity never happens again to anther pet or its owner. read more

What these people did to me was absolutely disgusting. My dog ran away while on a walk, chasing after a bunch of birds. Someone from the Clinic found her and posted on facebook. Since I had made my own post online with hundred of shares, i luckily (or so I thought) was tagged in this post. Now, I work in a restaurant and this all happened during the holidays, so my job was slammed and I was in insane over time, i had worked about 70 hours that week. I tried time and time again to schedule a time to pick her up. I even got the cell phone number of Dr. Phillips, with whom I tried to schedule a pick up. He informed me he'd be going out of town, but that I could talk to the kennel attendant, Pam. I called and texted dozens and dozens of times a day, to which I never got a response. I called the Clinic time and time again as well, and every time I was told if I wanted my dog I would have to go through Pam. Finally now, after the holidays when I'm not working like crazy, I was able to go into the clinic during business hours, demanding for my dog back to which I was informed they gave her to another family. Just gave my dog away after ignoring me for over a week while I was desperately trying to give her back. They refuse to give me the information of the family whom they gave my dog to, and refuse to do anything to get her back to me. I raised her from the time she was 4 weeks old. That dog was my best friend, my rock. Now all I can do is hope the family who has her is treating her well and giving her the love she deserves. You guys took a member of my family away. You've done more damage to me than I can express. I'm mourning the loss of my dog painfully, and every day life seems harder without her. This place is awful. Dr. Philips is as good as it gets. I have been taking my dogs here since moving to Boca 5 years ago. Initially, it was the convenient location, but what had made me stay is the love and service. When My Cavalier (now in heaven) was diagnosed with CHF, Dr. Philips showed such great consideration with the cost and care. He treats your dogs like his dogs and advises you as a friend. He has seen us through the toughest of times. Now, I realize this may have been a special circumstance, but he gave me the option of him doing a housecall when it was time to say goodbye to Kobe. I still recall that Monday when I called the clinic to let him know it was time. Despite having a busy schedule that day, he came to my house on his lunch break so that Kobe can be at home in his last hours. To tell you the truth, maybe he does this for everyone. But I guess that's what makes Dr Philips so special- he made us feel like we were his only patients that day. His entire staff makes you feel like family too. I would rate them as 5 stars, but I've only been in to see them once. I brought my sick dog to them on a recommendation by a friend. My dog has been with the same vet for 9 years. For the last 3 years she has been suffering with allergies. They could not help her. They just kept giving her monthly shots for itching. My poor dog was so red and sore. I finally had enough and took her to Cole Animal Clinic where she saw Dr. Phillips. He was wonderful. Listened to everything I said, was compassionate, ran a series of blood work on her and prescribed her medications to clear up her skin. 2 weeks later, my Abby is like a new dog! Her skin is all cleared she looks so much happier. I wish I hadn't waited so long to bring her to Cole Animal Clinic. read more

This is the only place I have been to where I felt my cat's well being was first rather than the operator finding ways to charge me extra. The veterinarian who saw my cat was very knowledgeable and professional and only recommended what was necessary. The vet technician, Matia, was exceptional. She made sure everything was up to date and also made sure to calm my cat down as he was a bit anxious. I highly recommend this vet clinic. My cats have been customers of Cole Animal clinic for close to five years. Overall the facilities are impressive resembling more a human clinic than an animal clinic. The staff are friendly and attentive. The problem is their approach to veterinary medicine. At some point -and I can't tell when-- they transitioned to an assembly-line medical practice. You deal primarily with the staff. The doctor makes a quick appearance, asks a few pointed questions and moves on to the next office. That in itself is not a deal breaker, but considering their prices and their poor follow-up it's not a place I will continue to take my pets to. There a plenty of less expensive places that you can get the same or much better type of care for less. The straw the broke the camel's back occurred with my 17 year old cat with a kidney infection. I took her to the clinic early on a Friday morning and she underwent her exams promptly. However, the urine exam would take longer, so the staff instructed that we take her home and wait for doctor Phillips to call with the results in the afternoon. After not hearing from them for the better part of the day I called in the late afternoon only to be told that doctor Phillips would call me at close of business or worse case on Saturday. No call on Friday evening, so I called on early on Saturday morning only to be told that doctor Phillips was really busy, but that he would call me around noon (before they closed). I called again almost at noon and was told the doctor was still busy but would call me at the end of day. No call received on Saturday either. Finally late on Monday morning I received a call from doctor Phillips informing me that the cat had a very strong urine infection and he prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics. I find it UNACCEPTABLE that it would take all of Friday and the entire weekend for the follow-up. My understanding is that this particular urine test yields results within an hour or two. Look elsewhere for your assembly-line veterinary needs. read more

I really am disappointed in this business since Dr. Cole passed in 2017. I inherited my best friends two big dogs and a cat when she passed in 2014. I kept them with the vet they had known their whole lives. After Dr. Cole passed Dr. Phillips changed. One dog had growth on her gum that he needed to do a dental to check out. I figured he'd never steered me wrong so I said ok. Several hundred dollars later he told me she had a cancerous growth in her jaw and it was terminal. I have left detail out for space sake but there's more to follow. Dr. Phillips prescribed pain meds that I got through Allivet. One time I ran short and asked for a small amount to tide me over and not only was the price absurd but they charged an $18 filling fee! JUST TO PUT PILLS FROM BOTTLE A TO BOTTLE B!! And this after being with the practice for more than 13 years! No loyalty whatsoever. After that I checked around and found Boca Veterinary Clinic closer to where I live, a heck of a lot less expensive and open 7 days! Turns out he was right and my Monday went over the Rainbow Bridge on August 27th followed by her sister Katie on November 24th. BVC was there for me both emotionally and physically. Having moved back to Boca within the past year after an almost 30 year absence, I was surprised to see my old vet clinic still in business. I am so glad they are still here! Dr. Phillips has been wonderful, treating two chiweenies that we brought from out of state, and just yesterday, neutering, microchipping, and doing dental work on our newest rescue. I'm writing this as a long time customer of Cole Animal Clinic. The quality of the staff has greatly decreased over time. They are down right RUDE, brash, and extremely unprofessional. This isn't based on one specific visit. EVERY visit to Cole, there is at least one very negative encounter with a staff member. It truly astonishes me. I am not one to be confrontational whatsoever. I also try to find the good or consider that maybe people are stressed, overworked, whatever but there is honestly no excuse for the behavior that I observe there or receive when I call. I see it happen to other customers as well. I think Dr Phillips is a nice person and a good doctor but since Dr Cole's passing, I believe he has taken on too much and my pets have suffered at this expense, which I will not go into details about but let's just say, my pet ended up having to have TWO additional surgeries (elsewhere) after a less than satisfactory surgery was performed at Cole. I have spent a great deal of time and an astronomical amount of money at Cole and I am truly disappointed. Taking business and my pets' wellness elsewhere. read more

We have been patients at Cole animal Hospital for 15 years. We had the privilege not only having Dr. Cole as our friend but also as our veterinarian. After his passing we continue to go to Cole animal Hospital. Dr. Philips and the staff could not have been any more compassionate and gracious and thorough. They have never tried to up charge any of their services or exaggerated any of our dogs conditions for monetary purposes. When our dog Dolly had complications with cancer last July, we had to call Dr. Philips on the weekend. Dr. Philips came in along with Ally when the clinic was closed and sat with us while we had to put Dolly down. Even as I write this, there are tears in my eyes for his compassion and kindness and understanding. Words could never adequately express gratitude for that type of care. Cole animal clinic and Dr. Phillips is hands down the best veterinary clinic I've ever been to. The staff is amazing and friendly and I know I never have to worry about my fur babies when they're in their hands. Dr. Phillips is kind, thorough, and an excellent surgeon and diagnostician. I hate that I had to move, but if anything serious happened to my dog I'd drive the three hours back down to boca in a heartbeat because Dr. Phillips is the only guy I trust. Dr. Phillips, is by far one of the most compassionate, caring & honest Vets I know. I had a smooth coat Collie, Lassie. He took great care of her & when she passed on, both he & his staff were immediately available to help. He went above & beyond. Nothing but the best from Dr. Cole, Dr. Phillips and staff. They know me on a first name basis, and every time I come in there, they always seem to remember everything about my dogs and even ME! I never have an issue, and they have even helped me in emergencies when another vet in Broward almost killed my Cane Corso. The pricing is also spot on, no surprises on the bill.
