    Horchata latte
    Cas R.

I tried coming by once before and they were closed so I'm so glad to try again today! Balances foot traffic for midday, not a long wait for my drink, and pleasant vibes all around. The cashier was sweet making conversation with an older gentleman in the establishment and smiling to everyone. I was stuck between two drinks and asked for his recommendation and he was happy to give it. I got the horchata latte iced - good rec! I am someone who likes sweeter drinks though so I'm grateful they have sweeteners at the end of the bar (medium-strong drink imo). Cozy seating inside and a small table outside. Quiet ambiance good for working or catching up with a friend.

I got an espresso. Good layer of crema but pretty thin body. It was a dark roast and tasted quite bitter. It would be interesting if they served one of the lighter roasts for their espresso but it seems they only use those for pour over.

Came here on a Friday morning for breakfast with my mentee. It's a casual spot where you order at the counter and pick up your food when they call your name. Service was quick and the menu is basic. I got the strawberry matcha, which is a summer special. It looked really pretty but didn't taste amazing; it was bland and could have used more sweetness. We ordered the poached eggs and toast, which was not good. Eggs were overcooked and more on the well done side. We also got the ham and Gruyère cheese sandwich, which was much tastier. The combo of fig jam with the saltiness of the ham, creaminess of the cheese, and crunchiness of the bread was great. Prices were affordable and some of the food was definitely better than others. You can give this place a try if you're looking for a morning spot to enjoy chill vibes.

3.5 that I'll round up to a four. Cute signage and it just felt like the neighborhood coffee shop where you could pop in for your morning joe. I was glad they had light breakfast options since I was hungry. The special that day was a savory waffle which I enjoyed. There's not a ton of seating inside and the line felt a bit slow. Other than that the vibes were right for a morning breakfast on my stroll through the Berkeley neighborhood.

How the heck are you guys going to fill my coffee 3/4 of the way? Not like I needed extra cream or nothing

We stopped by Cole Coffee after lunch for afternoon pick-me-ups. My wife, who's the real coffee connoisseur between us, thought this place was just okay (three stars). I liked it, but I didn't feel strongly about it unlike other cafes. My wife thought her Americano and my latte were too sweet. She thought the flavor shots of vanilla, in both drinks, drowned out all the coffee flavor. I agreed with her, but it didn't bother me as much as I prefer my coffee drinks on the sweeter and creamier side. I had a hot vanilla latte with oat milk ($5.60 total). My wife had a vanilla Americano with oat milk ($4.00 total). I could be wrong, but I think my serving size was 16 ounces and hers was 12. I thought both drinks tasted fine. For me, the latte served its purpose at the time. Service was good. According to the storefront sign and menus I saw in-store, Cole Coffee has been around since 2005. I read they replaced Royal Coffee. They have a cute corner spot at College Ave and 63rd St in the Rockridge neighborhood of North Oakland. This particular stretch of College Ave is filled with restaurants and retail. It's a nice area. The cafe's sidewalk seating, with its small tables and chairs, adds to the neighborhood's charm and appeal. Overall, I think the cafe has a neat retro feel to it. Cole Coffee serves breakfast food, salads, and sandwiches. For delicious pastries to go with your coffee here, I recommend La Farine just a few doors down: https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-farine-oakland-2 I asked an employee if Cole Coffee has guest Wi-Fi. They said no and to use Safeway's Wi-Fi across the street.

Cute cafe front, the glass windows, signage, and corner spot pulled me in to check them out real quick. I wasn't looking for a drink per say, but because I was in the area, I thought why not? There were a few people in line / ordering prior before I stepped inside. I was advised that they were closing the interior in 5-10 minutes and whatever I was going to have needed to be enjoyed outside. That was fine since I just wanted something small. I ordered the cafecito which was a tiny cup of espresso with milk. Not bad, but not memorable enough for me to want to go back for it again. If you have time, there are food options and other drinks. I would say grabbing a table around the corner side street is nice. The service was quick and staff was very nice and accommodating with the order. Would maybe give this place another go some other time if I am in the area.

    oat horchata cold brew

Pretty good coffee for your average price around the bay. I got a horchata cold brew. At the time they were out of regular horchata so I opted for the oat alternative; not bad! Overall a good place to get some work done and a plus that it stay open later into the afternoon. A tasty pick me up in the afternoon worth a return visit.

Nicely cooked poached egg with right amount of doneness and runny yolk. I topped it with Tapatio and black pepper on my toast.

Stopped in for a matcha latte and light breakfast this weekend. I brought my own mug/canteen and they were able to happily use it for my order. I tried the single poached egg and toast and the egg came out nicely - with the right amount of runniness in the yolk and a cooked egg white that was not overdone. I topped the egg with a bit of Tapatio chili sauce and finished one slice of toast with it. The other slice I spread the accompanied strawberry jam and butter on top for a nice sweet finish to my breakfast. Cafe was crowded and many people had their dogs with them leashed to the outdoor patio/cafe seating. Inside seating is cozy yet enough for about 14 people to sit and enjoy their drink and snack.

i love going there! staff is awesome, food is beyond delicious and the tea are top tier, haven't had any of their coffee yet but the quality of their teas tell me everything i need to know love the color scheme, the selection of furniture, music and the natural light!

Great place for a mid-day stop to refuel or take a beat from your to-do list. I got a pour over and the flavor was so good, I preferred it over the latte I got the first time. The bagel was middling, under toasted, and a little bland for me, and I don't think I will be getting another one for the price point.

    Ordering and pickup
    Katie Y.

Good neighborhood joint within walking distance of my place. I like that you line up and pick up outside, which is great for COVID times. I think the coffee is good - it doesn't blow me away but it's not outrageously priced. The folks who work here are friendly. It's a busy place, so I'd suggest that they write our names on the cup so that pickup is clear. I have to listen closely for my drink to be called and mentally note who was ahead of me because one time someone tried to grab my cappuccino. To address something I saw in another review - I yesterday observed that the barista did not wear gloves and would hand over lids. Today the barista did wear gloves. I'm actually not sure if it makes a difference since they theoretically wash their hands, but just a note for those who care about this detail.

When I go into a cafe, dishes usually include sandwiches, baked sweets, pancakes or waffles. But there are times when I look at the menu and I'm trying to wake up, so I want a simpler menu. Here, they have the toast with butter. Yes, this is the perfect dish for the moment that I tend to have when choosing the first meal of the day. I also love their other menu, which is the toast with a canned fish. The cafe also sells these alongside coffee beans. The toast is sliced thick with a generous smear of butter. The toast surface has a golden shine from the melted butter. Every bite has a juicy butter taste. On the side of toast is a side of a beautiful semi-boiled egg with a runny yolk -- my favorite type of way to eat yolks. Next time, when I visit here, I will definitely try the canned fish and eat that for breakfast. That is another good breakfast menu I would love to have and try with a cup of coffee.

The good: Their vanilla latte is genuinely good. Flavorful, balanced, and not overly sweet. The food is decent too. The bad: Why is a vanilla latte pushing $7 these days and still arriving nowhere near the top of the cup? When I asked about it, I was told it's just one ice cube short of the normal volume. But consistently? Maybe that's what they mean by Ain't Normal. My bigger issue is the service. Maybe I've caught them on off days, but the staff has consistently come off with a bit of attitude. Nobody needs a parade when they order coffee, but a little warmth goes a long way, especially when you're charging specialty coffee prices. At the end of the day, the coffee is good enough that I've come back more than once. I just wish the cups were fuller and the customer service matched the quality of the drinks.

Idk if it was our timing or order, but the matcha was slightly watery and did not have a strong flavor. Additionally, my ube tasted like straight coconut than ube to the point where my husband was like yo they dyed some coconut foam purple LOL I highly doubt that was the case, but point made. The interior is fine, small but tables and wifi if you want to get some work done or study. Prices are what they are for matcha right now so I was sad to pay those prices and get a drink that was just okay. I'm not sure I'd give this spot a chance again, but eh there are a lot of competitors to give a try instead.
