Traveling home after a Florida weekend we got off the craziness that can be I-95 and happened upon Sally May's while driving the back roads. It's a small and super clean. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The gals working at the counter were very friendly. My daughter ordered a catfish po-boy and I got a dinner portion of their Lo Country boil. I should have had the lunch portion as I ended up taking half of it home. The lo country boil was the classic shrimp, sausage, red potatoes and corn. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of kick. The cocktail sauce served with it had a perfect amount of horseradish. We also shared an order of "firecracker" shrimp. So tasty. My daughter reports her sandwich was tasty if a bit bready. The portion of catfish on the sandwich was plentiful. Sally Mae's is just off the interstate and worth seeking out if you are in the area. read more

Mediocre at best. I was excited to try this place because of the good reviews. First of all, the food came out and it was cold, so not a great start. Not even warm but cold. The mac and cheese was fine but not great, the brunswick stew was watery, and the banana pudding was super liquidy and tasted like sunscreen (my husband said soap lol). It was also mostly whipped cream somehow. The hickory bbq sauce was great, the hush puppies were fine with the cinnamon butter, and the cornbread was really good. Plenty of parking as I pulled in.placed my order for a fish and shrimp platter with sides of Cole slaw and fries.food came out quickly and was instantly disappointed. Portions were small for the money I paid.was expecting fish filets but instead received 3 or 4 small nuggets. Shrimp was ok if you like rubbery. Was helping a friend who lives in Brooklet do some work on her farm and we had to run to the supply store. She went out of her way to come to Sally Mae's to introduce me to their wide variety lunch items. We both had their bacon cheeseburger melts with fries. We decided to try something different. SM was near the interstate. It was very clean, you go to the counter to order and they bring your food to the table. Prices reasonable, limited service. The service is all you would hope it to be from a southern spot -- and the food -- well-- it's like you stopped in to see your southern grandma and she cooked for ya! Just a great bite at a great price. I got the BLT and it was exactly how a BLT should taste. My sister got the all day pancakes and oh what pancakes these were. Big, not too fat, and browned and slightly crispy on the edges and well - just like my daddy used to make them. Listen to the locals. The first week this restaurant was open, it was great. However, they've gone down hill from there. You cannot place a to go order over the phone. You have to do it on the internet. My dad is 84 and a widower, he relies a lot on take out for his meals. He doesn't know how to use the internet. read more

I was hesitant about stopping anywhere on Christmas Eve, but this is a clean, cozy little spot I'm glad we took the time to check out. Today was our first time visiting the restaurant. Ordered a catfish platter ( sign says add a shake for $1.20). $10.99+ $3.49 ? Really? Ordered a patty melt. Was asked if I wanted the combo. I replied yes. $5.29+ fries $3.99+ shake $1.70? Really? Granted the fries are hand cut. Over fried very small pies and greasy. The catfish didn't look like their advertisement. *Pieces. We don't go that direction often. It's ok because it's not somewhere we'd go out of our way to eat there again. read more

Fantastic quick stop on a Sunday morning as we drove home from Savannah. We tried the chicken biscuit, grits (plain and cheese), scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Everything was delicious! Grits must be made in chicken stock or something genius because they have fantastic flavor. Biscuits were rich and fluffy, felt guilty eating the whole thing but I just couldn't stop. Their homemade BBQ sauces were also delish. I think our pancakes were atypical. They were chewy and difficult to cut? Flavor was good though and I saw another guys plate of them, they looked fluffy so I was a wee bit jealous. If we weren't traveling and eager to get home, I would've asked for a refire. ‍ Everyone was friendly. Will definitely stop in again on our next trips from/to Savannah. read more

Y'all. I'm pretty critical of bbq. This. Is. Good. BBQ. Listen to me: pork was tender with the perfect chewing consistency. Ketchup based sauce is excellent. Could use a spicy version of it. Mac is great without being to greasy. Potato salad is very good strong relish. Brunswick stew is very different and very good. All of this stuff actually tastes homemade... Stopped for lunch on the way home to Atlanta from Daufuskie. All our food was delicious! We liked the smoked pork barbecue so much that we picked up a couple of pounds to take home. Will definitely stop here anytime we are in the area in the future. Having visions of picking up bbq on the way to the beach next time. Yum! Very friendly staff as well! My wife and I were traveling from Savannah to Knoxville and looking for a down-home country meal. Well we certainly found it Sally Mae's is just like grandma's. They had everything from smoked pork chops to cheeseburgers, two kinds of fish and plenty of side dishes like Brunswick stew. Also several different kinds of ice cream. And the folks that worked there were so very nice. Of course the local law-enforcement was eating there as well which is always a really good sign. We had a bacon pattymelt with a side of Brunswick stew. Also had 2 large Catfish filets, fresh potato salad, corn muffin even a good side said. All of our food was fresh and tasty. The Mint chocolate chip ice cream was a large serving for dessert. This is a 5 star diner with excellent service, fast food and good quality. A Clemson football game was on the TV but I was watching Ohio State and the team up North on my phone. I would return here if ever in the area. read more

Saw this place and got excited to get some bbq, that was short lived, I got the 6 rib plate and was able to eat 1 of the ribs, the others were so dry and hard I didn't even try, it was neat how they attempted to dress them up with bbq sauce. I often stop at the 67 antique mall while traveling I16 and happened to hit it at lunch so decided to try Sally Mae's. I had a small porker sandwich which was actually quite a generous sized sandwich. Nicely smoked pork though a bit salty with a good soft sesame seed bun. The stew was excellent, a little sweeter than most I have had, but great flavor. The slaw was sweet as well. I prefer the more savory pickle type slaw but it was fresh and had a nice crunch. They were serving all day pancakes and that was tempting. I will stop here again - lots of choices on the menu if barbecue is not your thing - burgers, seafood, etc. read more
