You order at the bar, sit down, and they bring out the food to you. They keep the tab open, so it is easy to add on baked goodies. Haven't been to Coleman's since 1984 when they were out on the "beeline". They still have the #4 Supreme Burger and great onion rings! I'll be coming back very soon. Their seating is so limited and the restaurant is so popular that scoring a place to eat inside is difficult. We were there at 2pm. The nine or so tightly packed tables in the small dining area were filled. Folks were in line waiting either for a table or their to-go order. We came back 30 minutes later and were able to get a table. They have been around for a long time! This restaurant used to be a very prominent restaurant in Okmulgee, located on Highway 75. Their popularity continues, just in a different location. In addition to their best burgers in Okmulgee; their menu includes daily specials of soups, Chicken fried steak, chicken strips and other typical diner type offerings. The pasty display case is packed with their fresh baked pastries and pies. My wife wanted a good old fashioned hamburger today, so we went to Coleman's. We stuck with the basics, a ¼ lb. regular cheese burger, a 1/2 lb. hamburger supreme and their fresh homemade onion rings. Nothing disappointing about this meal. The folks that work here are just super friendly nice people. If you are lucky enough to get a table you will enjoy the visit! The down side of this place is the size of the dining area. It is small. Okay this is the best food I've ever had in Okmulgee. We got a cheeseburger with incredible flavored juicy meat and delicious fresh tomatoes. The onion rings weren't covered in grease at all and had a great crunch and good seasoning as well. The cherry limeade was homemade and the water tasted good and not from the tap like most restaurants The ginger bread cookies are soft and melt in your mouth. Worth every penny! The chocolate pie was okay, pretty good. Only negatives here: The music was overly loud making it hard to hear whoever you're with at the table (and ordering) and the ordering where they'll help you across the table but you have to walk in front of other customers ordering. So much more than a bakery, Coleman's is a great lunch or dinner destination! My friends and I live in Broken Arrow and Sapulpa, but made the drive to meet our other friend that lives in Okmulgee and we were craving Coleman's. It really is not even an hour from Tulsa, so worth the trip! Get there early to beat the crowd. There is not much room to dine. We got there before 11 am and were fine. I had a cheeseburger, onion rings and a tea. I didn't realize the hamburger patties were so thin, I will get a double next time! It was so delicious though. And the onion rings are hand cut daily, nice and thin, the best! I tasted the fries, those are great too! For dessert my friend and I split the Italian cream cake, it was really good, love the icing! My other friend had the Coleman's cookie-had chocolate chips, pecans and oatmeal in it. Yum! Love the hometown feel. Coleman's is family owned and they truly care about their food and their customers. It was the perfect summer field trip! After that we went grocery shopping at MIss Mary's Market. It was after lunchtime in downtown Okmulgee and I had decided to take a break and leave Highway 75 and head for the historic town square and Creek Council House. I rounded a corner to go back to the highway and happened upon this old store front with big blue and white signage - Coleman's Bakery and Big Beef Burgers. When you enter, there are maybe four front tables and one large table in a private nook. What catches your eye is the old fashioned glass and wood bakery case with cookies, cupcakes, pie and cake slices. They are a custom bakery and while I was there, Coleman's had a stream of customers coming in to collect coustom orders. I saw a gorgeous strawberry pie and a beautiful two layer chocolate cake. Their Burger menu is extensive and moderately priced. They also have chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken, a turkey club sandwich and a chicken tender salad. I also saw a children's menu. They have homemade soups, too. I chose the Red Top Stew (Vegetable Beef Stew with a dollop of chili) which came with cornbread. I decided on two of Coleman's Awesome Cookies to go - oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and pecans. Enormous tender cookies heavy with chocolate and pecans, half of one turned out to be plenty for me. They have a refrigerator case full of beverages. I decided to eat there and be entertained by the parade of customers ooohing and aaahing over their much anticipated items. It was a nice break and the counter person was kind. They have a sweet little clean old retro bathroom for women! I couldn't really judge their burgers, fries or onion rings. Or anything else on the menu. My stew was perfect and so was the cookie. We were driving down 75 thinking about lunch when we saw a billboard for this restaurant. I quickly checked the yelp reviews and we were on our way. We lucked out because someone pulled out of a parking spot just as we arrived and there was an empty table right inside the door. We both ordered cheeseburgers and we ordered an order of onion rings to share. The waitress came back to tell us they had just ran out of onion rings so we ordered fried okra, instead. The food arrived in Styrofoam containers and she also brought paper plates. We quickly dug into the burgers and they were very good! We liked the okra, too. For dessert, my husband had one of his favorite pies, Coconut cream. He enjoyed it. I got a couple of cookies. I ate one and save one for later. They were baked just how I liked them. I have been told about this place for years by my wife and her family as they grew up near Okmulgee. They always have a wistful look in their eye when they recall all the treats they had from this place during their childhood. Needless to say, I had high expectations of the place. When I arrived on a Saturday morning at approximately 11:30ish, I couldn't find a parking spot until I saw a rear parking lot peaking out. Grabbed a spot and headed it. When I got it, I was rather surprised at how small it was inside. Only 6-7 tables. Luckily someone was leaving so I was able to grab it as all others were full. I ordered a Bacon Cheese Burger and Fries. Dani (I hope I got her name right) was very pleasant. Always smiling throughout my time there. I was also impressed with Ashlyn. Real friendly and both ladies had and passed on an infectiously positive attitude. The burger and fries arrived and again, I was impressed. A simple burger but still very juicy and flavorful...fries were really crunchy but not hard. Food was awesome. Ashlyn came by and asked if I was interested in dessert...but of course! Does a fat man love food? I am and I do, so I ordered one of my weaknesses...Coconut Cream Pie! Fresh at that (They make their own pies and pastries in the back). The other pie our party ate and shared was the coconut meringue pie. That pie was a sweet sugar goodness melt in your mouth pie. I saw two other meringue pies: banana and chocolate. Both of my childhood favorites in one place?! The look and feel are very reminiscent of the original. People's Bakery was a must stop on the way to Okmulgee High School for me and my friends. Their baked cinnamon rolls were amazing and look to be just as amazing now. The creme horns and homemade pies are also still available. Now, combine People's Bakery AND Coleman's Hamburgers?! I'm in heaven! These are the best burgers within a hundred miles or more. Fresh hand formed beef patties and toasted buns make them them the best.
