We had reservations on Saturday evening at 6:15. We were promptly seated and shortly after greeted by our server who took our drink order. After delivering our drinks we placed our dinner order. At 7:40 we asked him how much longer before our dinner would arrive He said he would check and be right back. He never returned and at 8:05 we went to the desk and asked to speak with the manager. She apologizes and says she can have our dinners done in 4 minutes. We tell her we need to leave. (We were out with another couple and one has a challenging health issue that makes getting out of the house very difficult) We were going to treat them to a nice dinner. The manager said she would reach out to us on Monday and speak with us. It will be a week tomorrow and no call from the manager. We are beyond disappointed with the waiter and management! Another place I have been to a handful of times simply because it is so good!! I am giving Coles 5 stars because their flavors are unique and I had the best bottle of Pinot I've had in a while here. To start we ordered a special mushroom bruschetta appetizer, who would have thought mushroom bruschetta?? Not sure. However, it was amazinggg and I wish it was a permanent menu item. We also ordered the baked Brie, which is a personal favorite. Once again very good. I ordered the salmon for dinner and was very happy with it. The Brussels sprouts were heavenly and the butternut squash purée was divine and tied all of the flavors together nicely. If you like salmon, you can't go wrong ordering this. My mom had the scallop special which was also very good (and should also become a permanent menu item). All in all, the staff was extremely helpful and appreciative of our business, and once again Coles checked all the boxes in that of a nice dining experience. If you have one meal in Lexington, make it here!! OMG- we loved our meal here! Started with the special watermelon gazpacho, then split the special Heirloom tomato salad and I had the cauliflower steak enteee and we shared the chocolate torte w/ bourbon gelato. I was stuffed to the gills but two weeks later still happily day dreaming about that fab meal. During covid, they had a lot of additional outdoor seating. I had heard good things about this restaurant for quite some time. We decided to go to celebrate my birthday. We were seated at a cute little table in a private nook. We had the panko encrusted fried avocado appetizer. The avacado was delicious as was the lump crab salad on each half. Our waitress, Hannah, was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the menu. She was attentive but never hovered. She and the other wait staff made sure our glasses were never empty. I did limit myself to one Wheatley dirty martini . It was wonderful (3 olives and a lemon twist ). My husband and I shared a grilled Caesar salad and enjoyed it very much. The grilling process added depth of flavor. For entrees we had the blackened pompano fish that came on a bed of roasted vegetables ( including Brussels sprouts and daikon radish ) and the beef shoulder tender on mashed potatoes with blistered cherry tomatoes. Both were very good. The bread basket we sampled was also above average in deliciousness. Our favorite was the black pepper biscuits. They were tender and flaky with the perfect amount of pepper. To top off a wonderful meal we had butterscotch cookies as well as the chocolate chip. A big thank you to Hannah for the recommendation! So glad we came to Coles!! Very enjoyable dinner!! read more

Very cute decor, seven seat bar, clean bathrooms, easy to find, friendly staff, ok food. Diane, our server & manager Chris were great. Panko Crusted Avocado was slightly mushy & the crab was missing something. Smoked Salmon app needed that side of mustard that it comes with & a side of lemon. NY Strip was cooked to perfection, but very very salty. Grit Cubes, I could've eat a dozen. The Brussels Sprouts were hard, lacked seasoning, needed pancetta. We got two tiny pieces. The other side was potato au gratin cake. It could've flown right off of our table how hard I was trying to slice thru the hard bottom so we ate the top. Drinks were made absolutely perfect. Very happy that they buy all their meat, grits & veggies from local farms. Total plus! Comparing Coles to other family owned smaller restaurants in Georgetown & surrounding areas, I can only give them a three. Five for ambience & staff. read more

The ambiance here was perfect. Quaint, perfectly lit, a fireplace, not too loud or quiet. It was a great environment for a nice romantic dinner. The food was fantastic. We got the shrimp tempura appetizer, honey Cajun glazed shrimp appetizer, the beef shoulder tender entree and chicken saltimbocca entree. All the food was cooked perfect, I was surprised to be asked what temperature I wanted my beef, I've never been able to have that level of specificity and let me tell you, it was great. The cocktails were tasty and did the job, but the bread basket was to die for, and I loved the variety of it. Our server was very nice, professional, and had the very large seasonal/special menu memorized, which was impressive. They did everything in their power to ensure we had a top tier dining experience, we will definitely be coming back. read more

I'd rate this restaurant 3.5 stars if Yelp gave half stars. We arrived early for dinner sans reservation, and they graciously accommodated us. We'd been driving all day, so weren't really looking for the full multi course dining experience with cocktails and wine, just a quick meal, so we both ordered a main dish and skipped the drinks. The menu has a lot of choices, and our server, John, expertly recited the specials to us. Some of it read and sounded good, and some of it seemed like maybe too many ingredients. I was intrigued by the Impossible meatloaf, and my husband went for the duck confit. The meatloaf is a huge portion, served with smashed baby purple and white potatoes, mushrooms and asparagus, all topped with a mushroom gravy. The chef/cooks definitely have some skill, as the mushroom gravy and dainty shaved fresh asparagus were very nice. The purple potatoes were cooked through, but the white ones were not, and that always bothers me. I don't want al dente potatoes, and, while they didn't ruin the dish, they were not good. The vegan meatloaf was good, but not "order it again" good. My husband had issues with his food too, most importantly the crispy 15 hour potatoes, which simply looked burnt to me. He found them inedible. Service was excellent, from the friendly welcome at the host stand to our wonderful waiter. This is a lovely restaurant, with lots of charm and local details. The wall length banquet is comfortable seating, but I think it's time to replace some of the pillows they have lining it. Homey and worn in is one thing, but some of these are falling apart and look like they were rescued from some sofa waiting for the trash heap on the sidewalk. I will try this restaurant again and sample more of the menu. read more

Ordered the panko fried avocado with the special spicy tuna tartar on top, which was delicious. Also ordered the wedge salad which was also very good. The scallops were fantastic. For Valentine's Day my sweetheart made dinner reservations for us at Cole's. Upon arriving we requested a table in their intimate bar area instead of the table that was reserved for us in the formal dining room. We noticed the available table next to the fireplace and have always wanted to sit there and were thrilled to have the chance and on Valentine's Day nonetheless!!! Our server, Diane, quickly greeted us, filled our drink order and gave us some time to review the pre-set Valentine Dinner menu. We both opted to begin with the Lobster Bisque. We agreed it was the best we've ever had and it was served piping hot. A Perfect start to our special meal on a chilly evening! For an appetizer I chose the Cheese Board and my sweetheart the Pork Spring Rolls-both of which we shared and at this point we were getting pretty full! The wonderful assortment of dinner rolls, which I requested more of, were irresistible and added to my filling up quickly! For the main course we both opted for the Petite Filet, medium rare. It was perfectly done with a slightly seared crust served over a Demi glacé, mashed potatoes, asparagus (also done to perfection) and stewed tomatoes. I always order a steak at Cole's and, in my opinion they have the best steaks in Lexington! The filets this evening were, as expected, incredible! When a dessert plate arrived for each of us with an assortment of sweets, we did our best to finish them, but given we were so full from our wonderful dinner we ended up bringing home most of it for our later (in the evening) enjoyment! We were going to be in Lexington for my birthday weekend and wanted a romantic dinner. Yelp was key in finding this gem, which ended up being only a few minutes away from our Airbnb. Small and intimate, exactly what we were looking for, we entered and gave our name. The friendly staff explained that they had a special table for us, but the previous diners were still there. They apologized and offered us a change in table or to have a drink in the bar. We were in no hurry and decided a cocktail would be a great start. The list of options for drinks was amazing. Husband loves a good manhattan, the bartender was able to recommend a perfect bourbon for him. I went with a specialty drink called Black-eyed Buffalo that was one of the best drinks I have ever had. We were kept up to date on our table, but were very much enjoying the cozy bar with our cocktails. Finally our table was available and indeed worth the wait. Our waiter, Kyle, was quick to come over and get new drink orders. We then started discussions on wine. Kyle had a recommendation for a great wine, unfortunately they were sold out. Chris, Director of Operations, came to our table to apologize and then discussed with us what we were looking for in a wine. He was able to recommend an excellent bottle that went well with our dinner. We started with an appetizer of baked brie. So delicious. For our main meal, husband went with a strip steak which he stated was one of the best cooked steaks he had ever had. I went with the stuffed portabello mushroom. It was just ok, but did have great flavors. We ordered two sides, fried sweet potato risotto and white cheddar and leek au gratin. Just simply amazing. Main server was very good. However, when we were barely finished with our main entrees TWO people ascended to our table to clear the plates.... Rather aggressively. It left our entire table at a loss for words. Some of use were not finished. We were not dining for a long period of time. When we were asked if we wanted dessert we replied no, as dessert seemed more appealing having Butter cake at Jeff Rubies than staying around l. But the best was when the bill came and we were OVERCHARGED on our credit card $100 more than our meal. Again our main server was very apologetic and reversed the charges. But it left us all questioning what was the deal with the rest of the staff. Not sure about the entire experience. Food was average, main server was good, but the rest of our encounter with staff and the issue with the bill would deter us from dining in the future. read more

From the warm greeting at the hostess stand, to our server Garrett who went out of his way to make this a wonderful experience, Cole's knocked it out of the park last night for my business dinner. Located on a corner in what looks like a site that has always been a restaurant, Cole's serves up some great food in a warm and inviting decor. The banquette along the wall is filled with pillows. The cushion, a homey red gingham and the walls painted with murals I later learned are historic to the building. The wine list is quite nice as is the cocktail list. We started with the chacuterie plate (on this night it was stilton cheese and salmon that caught my eye) i also had the grilled Caesar salad which was quite good; a head of romaine lettuce grilled and covered in dressing, parmesan cheese and crunchy bread crumbs. For my entree I went with the pecan crusted pork chop that did not disappoint! But the most visually interesting plate at the table was the fish and shrimp plate that had seasoned popcorn sprinkled over it! Lovely to look at and given on how fast it disappeared, sound like it was a winner that way as well. And just when i thought i couldn't eat anymore- the dessert menu beckoned with it's butterscotch and pecan cookies served warm with vanilla ice cream. I've been here a few times and have always had a great meal. Cole's has a number of creative dishes and the black pepper biscuits are amazing. This particular time I tried the Chicken Saltimbocca, which was tasty and a large portion. I loved the accompanying sweet potato gnocchi. We started with the Brie appetizer which was perfection. The atmosphere here is upscale but casual and they have created a tented patio to create extra space for dining while capacity is reduced. I had a great experience for my first time at Cole's 735 Main without much prior knowledge of the restaurant. For starters, the atmosphere was classy while still being comfortable with a strong southern feel. We were first served complimentary bread which is made fresh in house and had a nice sweetness to it. I shared the New York Strip with asparagus and mac and cheese on the side. The steak was perfectly tender with a nice crust and tons of flavor. The asparagus was good but the mac and cheese was the other star of the show. The crust on the top was very impressive and the inside was very creamy. We had great service and an all around good first experience! read more

We recently had a date night and went here for dinner. As we pulled up the outside reminded me a bit of a casual seafood diner I went to when I was a kid. So I was concerned to say the least. Walk through the doors and I immediately changed my mind. It was a very intimate setting nicely appointed and elegant. We were sat immediately and after a few minutes were greeted by our waitress. We ordered drinks and went about the evening. Drinks were ok. The Lexington was ok and packed a punch. For dinner I had the fish with risotto and it was phenomenal. The fish was well prepared and the risotto might have been one of my favorites of all time. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of a bourbon selection but they do have a large selection of wines. Definitely stop here for date night or just because you want a great evening. Don't let the outside keep you from trying this fantastic gem. read more

Coles is known for consistent, delicious food served in an upscale, but not stuffy, atmosphere. This visit was no different! Everything was cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. Highlights were the Tempura Shrimp (not pictured; creamy spicy aioli, yuzu soy, scallions) and the cookies, which we got to-go since we were so full! Cookies come in a set of three and you can mix and match - we went 2 Chocolate Chip and 1 Butterscotch. In the future, we'll do 2, maybe even 3, of the Butterscotch. It was melt-in-your-mouth DIVINE! I did not enjoy the Scottish Salmon and would not recommend it to others; it just had too much going on. Everything else had clear, distinct flavors that really stood out. That said, this place was delicious and everything was firing on all eight cylinders for a Friday evening dinner with the wife Decor - meh, they did the best they could with the space available. It's quiet and romantic. Overly dark in some spots but maybe that was intentional. Cuisine - the menu was solid for the fall. Enough variants in plates to stand up to the crazy fall weather in Lexington. Staff - well they try. There isn't a fine dining spot in Lexington who understand the service aspect. Likely because the business owners never make it out of this little bubble of mediocre serviced restaurants and venture into a larger metro to see how the big boys do it. I feel when a chef puts creativity into a vegan dish the rest of the food is probably great. My theory held true. Our cocktails were spot on. I had the Kentucky Vesper which I loved. The bread basket had wonderful biscuits we enjoyed. We started with the Tempura Shrimp which were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of batter. I ordered the King Trumpet Ribs and I was blown away with flavor. The sauce on the mushrooms was great and the sides paired nicely. My husband enjoyed his scallop entree. It was very flavorful sauce and cooked perfectly. We don't often order dessert but the choices drew us in. I ordered the warm butterscotch cookies and he tried the Woodford creme brûlée. Best dinner we've had in a very long time! We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and it was perfect. We started with the grilled Caesar salad (delicious) and for our entrees had the Cobia fish dish and Salmon salad. The Cobia was the best fish dish I have ever had! The flavors were so fresh and worked perfectly together. My friend really enjoyed her Salmon salad. We also had a side of the Mac&Cheese - so good!! For dessert we split the fresh baked butterscotch cookies with ice cream (unreal)! I cannot say enough good things about our meal and experience - it was a phenomenal way to spend an evening in Lexington. The service was great and each course was well timed for an enjoyable dinner.
