The food here is really good and nicely priced. The fajitas here taste great and are cheaper than other mexican restaurants around, even for them being 3 meat fajitas. Although we did not eat from it, there is a buffet that looks to have many delicious options for a really good price. At the table they serve your chips and salsa with a pitcher, which is great for refilling it yourself! The servers were friendly and quick. My daughter lives in Cullowhee and this is her favorite Mexican restaurant in Sylva. We visited around 3:30 on a Sunday, unfortunately too late for the buffet and too early for the salsa bar which my daughter says is very good. However the salsa they brought to the table was delicious, not spicy, and I loved that they brought a big amount of it in a syrup dispenser. My daughter ordered a combo and I ordered the Veggie P which was essentially an ACP with veggies instead of chicken, so not sure why it wasn't called the ACV. Food came out promptly and was hot. Service as far as drinks, bringing checks, etc. was a tad slow. Prices were on par with other places. I was super hungry so forgot to take a pic of my plate! read more

Ordered a vegetarian dish. They brought out a cheese and meat burrito. Said they brought out the wrong food and they were gonna grab the correct one. 15 Minutes later they bring out my dish, with an allergen I asked for them to leave off when ordering. By the time they got my food correct, the table was done eating. When trying to eat my food quickly, I noticed the same allergen that was notified to them several times mixed into my side of black beans. I could not even take the food home, and had time to eat maybe two bites of the main dish. When I went to check out, I had a margarita on the rocks with flavor. Looking at their menu, this should be 7.99 plus 1.00 for flavor. My friends got the frozen ones, and theirs came out to 8.99 plus 1.00 for flavor (pricing on the menu). The cashier rung me up for 9.99, the price of a frozen one, after I told him multiple times it was on the rocks. At this point, I just wanted to leave the place ASAP. After telling him on the rocks again, he did not change the price and just asked for a tip. Left 10%. Will not be going back. read more

I've been to this place quite a few times over the years when my son attended Western Carolina University. This family owned business is always bustling especially on weekends. Service is prompt and fast. It's a tiny place so the tables are quite close to each other but that has never seemed to bother me. This is the only place where I've eaten that has a Fajita Taco Salad. You have your choice of chicken or steak. It is full of green and red bell peppers, onion and the best part: classic Mexican cheese dip. This dip takes the salad to a whole new level. It's a different, yet delicious, take on your regular taco salad. I was able to swap out guacamole for extra sour cream. This is our family's go to spot for Mexican when we're in town. Wow! What a wonderful little spot in the middle of a small mountain town. We were seated immediately which was a blessing on graduation weekend. The service was excellent. She greeted and got our drink orders off the bat and then brought chips and salsa. We ordered and within 10 minutes - bam! Our food arrived. I ordered the pollo chipotle. A chicken breast topped with onions and chipotle sauce. Paired with rice, beans and tortillas. It was SOOOOO good. I created two perfect little tacos and was completely satisfied. If I could give no stars right now I would. But one will do fine, the taste of the food was fine, just nearly freezing because of the hour long wait for the food to come out. The waiter barely acknowledged us, and when he did, he barely worked to make our experience worth anything by bringing our drinks late. Colima holds a place in my heart due to general dickery with friends that occurred there during my high school years, and because they have one of my favorite American-dishes-containing-food-with-Mexican-names. I've been ordering the "Vegetarian E" plate for almost 9 years, and lately, I also get some tamales. I also always have something to take home, because the portions are enormous. I order the vegetarian E, not because I am a vegetarian, but because it is basically this delicious pool of sauce and cheese over a quesadilla, a bean burrito, and an enchilada. I love queso, and would probably laughed out of any restaurant in Mexico for expecting every dish I ordered to be covered in it. It wasn't until I visited a place in Asheville that didn't have vegetarian options that I realized that most Mexican food... isn't covered in queso. (NO! KHAAAAAN!) Colima has generally good service - I have yet to leave wondering where the hell my waiter was. In fact, the last time I was there, it was for Cinco de Mayo, and the place was packed, but our party of 7 was still served pretty promptly. I've never found any of my waiters to be rude, but they don't stand out much, either... except for one five years ago that very patiently joked with my friends about how many sugar packets they were flicking into my cleavage. I guess the only service complaint I have is that the tables come all the way up to the front door and register, and there are one of each (door and register), and the register is manned by one person. This means that if anyone is in front of you, you're basically lining up in between some long tables and booths to wait to pay your check. You can see where this is going. The restaurant turns into a clusterfuck when it's busy. We stood in line for about 10 minutes to pay for our Cinco de Mayo dinner, and the waiters had to attempt to carve their ways through the pay line to deliver to the booths of drunken college students. Let's see, what else? Oh. The buffet is only open during lunch, and Colima's buffet is generally a "construct your own taco/taco salad" station. Also note: If you come in, order drinks, eat the complimentary chips and salsa, order dessert, and leave, you will be charged for the chips and salsa. I imagine that even if you didn't touch the complimentary chips, you'd get charged for them. So order some food. If you've got room, finish off your meal with some fried ice cream. The ice cream is one of those dishes that shouldn't involve a deep fryer, but manages to be amazing because it does. They put chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. Every time I order the fried ice cream, I spend five minutes resenting the person I'm sharing it with (for being there for me to share it with), and ten minutes savoring the taste, all the while very seriously considering stealing the fryer out of their kitchen. p.s. - they will also let you carry out open containers of alcoholic beverages. Do not do this. JUST SAY NO. The popo will find you, as you are conveniently located next to a movie theater that has a police car stationed outside of it almost 24-7. read more

Colima is about what you'd expect from a Mexican joint in a run-down strip mall in a small mountain town in the South. The food is cheap, the service is good, and it all tastes.....fine, but cover anything with cheese and salsa and how bad could it taste? Try Saizon (formerly called El Torito #2) in Cullowhee if you want to try some fresh, authentic Mexican. Try Colima if you want to spend $7 on the same cheese enchilada you can find anywhere else. read more

A little gem in a very small city. My husband took me here, citing it as one of his favorite spots in college. The place a like a typical authentic Mexican restaurant in Charlotte, my home town. I got a vegetarian burrito - it was stuffed with mushrooms and zucchini - and nice change from the overwhelming amount on opinions in most veggie options. My husband got enchilada which were a favorite of his back in the day. The service was fast, the beer was cheap, and the chips and salsa were yummy - just skip the guacamole - there is a reason its only $2. Is it the cleanest place? Eh, maybe not. Is it authentic Mexican food made from scratch? Not really. It does have a great atmosphere though and the most reliable, friendliest staff in town. The food is delicious and as reliable as the service in terms of decent quality. The prices aren't bad, all in all it's just a great local Mexican place that's been here for decades and deserves to be a mainstay in town. You could definitely do worse here! read more
