This restaurant is amazing and the atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming. We loved to the area in June and have visited several Mexican restaurants in the Waynesville, Maggie Valley, etc area. This has by all means been our favorite and we frequent here a lot. The staff are the nicest people and they welcome you like you are family. The food is amazing and quickly served. Excellent! From the moment we walked in to the time we left! You immediately felt as if you were home, all staff friendly and welcoming. It is a small place and very busy but very well run. The margaritas were some of the BEST I have every had--you must try!!! I ordered the taquitos and my partner ordered the special dinner which was huge. Taquitos were good, only thing that was off is they laid them in cheese sauce which made them a bit soggy but at least the taste was great! Chips and salsa were fantastic. OMG!!!! First I'll start with the service: These folks felt like family! The hostess was not in a hurry to run to her duties.She answered questions with details! The founder, her dad, came around and visited at length with everyone! He (Amilio, if I remember correctly) and my husband exchanged hugs when we left! A 5 for the drinks, a 3 for the food. First, the food. It's ok. Nothing too exciting, nothing really wrong - just standard American-Mex quality and quantity. So if you're good with that - you'll rate it higher than I did. Ambiance is also standard American-Mex. But... the margarita's are excellent. Really really good. Which is why they get our food business! They also have small - medium (which we would consider 'normal') and large (which we would consider (ginormous). See pic - mine is the small, hubs is the large- which he came nowhere close to finishing. Obligatory chips and salsa were served promptly and kept full. Service was spot on and very friendly. We were so hungry that we didn't take the time to take a picture. We've been coming here for over twenty years. In fact, we liked it so much, we bought a house we can stay at any time we want to eat here. Friendly fast service. Chips and salsa were almost at the table before we sat down. Order red a dos Equis in a frosted mug with a lime. For dinner I had the combo cheese quesadilla, refried beans and traded out the rice for guacamole salad. Quesadilla and tortilla were good. Next time I will just order alacarte quesadillas. The guac salad is guacamole on shredded lettuce and the refried beans were light and runny. My husband got the enchilada combo with ground beef. He liked the brown sauce (not mole or verde) the best. Passed this restaurant more than a dozen times over the years and finally stopped to eat one night with my son. Quite a bit of a wait but everyone said it was worth it. Food was very tasty, margaritas were delicious and the service was quick. They were very busy but kept up with getting us the things we needed. If you ever find yourself in Maggie Valley NC, stop in here for a margarita. We had a strawberry & raspberry. They didn't taste strong but kind of snuck up on me in the end. Service was good. Food came out fast. Got the combo with 1 taco, 2 enchiladas & beans (had rice option). The cheese enchilada had a tasty sauce with just a whiff of heat that went perfectly with the melted cheese. We had others servers even come and ask us if we needed anything, so if I was rating just service, it would be 5 stars, the fajitas we good and flavorful, but the beans, rice & salad that came with it was mushy and not to our liking, so we didn't eat that. We got a pitcher of frozen margaritas based on another review and obviously it had been sitting in the machine too long and it was super sour!!! Wish we liked it more, but based on this experience, we would most likely not return for another meal. read more

The chicken inside was super dry like it was frozen and it was weirdly soggy as well. The guac definitely wasn't fresh. Despite this the food was decently flavorful. Our group of six visited Maggie Valley for a week. On our second evening, we visited Guayabitos for an early dinner. For two entrees and a pitcher of margaritas, our bill came out to around $55. The staff was super friendly, attentive, and provided amazing service. The quality of the food was perfect. We had such a good experience, that we came back on afternoon number four, for drinks and appetizers! We had a new server on this visit, however the service was on par with our previous visit. We've not found what we consider to be delicious Mexican food in North Carolina, yet. This seems pretty authentic, but also a little bland. Didn't find the familiar levels of cumin or other spices. What may have been telling was that there was even a section on the menu explaining the most basic of menu items, such as burritos or chimichangas, with pronunciation included. How else would one pronounce "taco?" But, the pork in the chili verde was tender, and the service was not lacking. If staying in Maggie Valley, if eat here again. read more
