My husband is a big Gundam fan, and while exploring the area, he found this amazing little shop just off the Strip. As soon as we walked in, I could tell he was in heaven--it was like watching a kid in a candy store! The shop had a fantastic variety of Gundam kits, including models from Japan and another section from China. The collection was so well-organized and fun to explore. While we were shopping, my husband noticed that some of the same kits he had purchased online before were priced about $15-$20 less elsewhere. But even knowing that, he didn't hesitate--he wanted to support this small, local business. That meant a lot to both of us, especially after learning the shop is backed by its own tight-knit community. "Locals supporting locals" is something we value. The staff were also genuinely kind and welcoming. I wish I remembered their names--they made the experience even more enjoyable. We ended up buying quite a few kits and were concerned about how we'd get them all back to San Francisco. Fortunately, they offered shipping, and everything arrived quickly and was packed with such great care. We also noticed they were selling some awesome shirts and learned that the artwork was created by one of their community members. The designs were so cool and creative that we decided to purchase a few. We actually came back for a second visit during our second trip to Vegas--and, of course, picked up even more Gundam kits and shirts. With recent tariffs being added to imports, we wouldn't be surprised if prices go up by the time we're back in August. So honestly, what we paid might end up being a deal! If you're a Gundam fan or just love supporting genuine, community-driven small businesses, Downtown Hobby 9 is absolutely worth a visit. They have gunplas as well with premium Bandai. The staff was friendly as you can feel their passion towards model kit building. I didn't purchase anything as my collection has surpassed most shops. You can bring your own (has to be RC not remote controlled cars from Target/Walmart etc) or you can rent different vehicles from them $15/hr. We rented and also got 2hrs of track time. We had a blast and we're going back soon to buy a RC truck. The shop is awesome too! I talked to Steve and he was super helpful and I could tell he loves this stuff. He helped us pick out the best one for our needs. They have other hobby projects also for all ages young and old. They have 3D printers also. Lots of parking and clean restrooms available. They sell drinks and snacks in case you need a little energy boost.

Employee told me their technician was on vacation and he would come back the 14th of Sept. so I call the 16th on the status, again the employee said it just been put on his desk. At this point I felt like these guys haven't even started. So I call again on the weekend and one of the employees said they were at the stage of testing. Cool, so I call again that weekend another employee advised they just had to finish rock lights and other stuff,give us 2-3 days. Called again Wednesday the following week, well AGAIN technician advised it just landed on my desk and could not give me an eta when it was going to be done.Had to postpone rock crawling with my brothers almost a month now just to be given the runaround. So now I'm going to pull my truck out of their shop. Wasted a month just to be given the runaround. Basically just bad customer service and bad on setting customer expectations. I have bought 2 trucks from these guys, so I thought maybe I can rely on them to at least do this and pay for their service. After I pick up my truck will not be going back. Had I known this was their service I would've never even considered their services. I understand shops get busy and all but keep it honest and set expectations, don't give the run around. What a nightmare.

Knowing this, my wife got me a rig from the Henderson location as a surprise present, but then realized that I already had that same one, so she goes to return it/exchange it (keep in mind this is within 24 hours of purchasing, never opened, sealed box), and the experience was far from 'friendly', everything about the return process from the worker was rude and made her feel unwelcome, in addition, there were unnecessary comments made from the worker, etc. I have store credit with Friendly Hobbies, but this is the last time I'm buying something from this location.... I'll continue to go to the Rancho location but its left me with a bad taste about this business now. Small hobby shops like this should know better that their customers are actively making an effort to support small business, when they can easily purchase the same RC rig online for the same price (or cheaper in most cases) and still get a much better return policy, that being said, you're probably better off shopping elsewhere online.
