Then I thought, well, why wouldn't it be me? Enter Dr. Lee Char. Based in SF, I chose her to be my cancer surgeon not only based on her track record but the fact that she also collaborates with my plastic surgeon, Dr. Kind. Not only does she have a positive bedside manner, but she is a genuinely thoughtful and kind individual. I won't get into the gory details, the surgery was a success - as much as one could have. Clean margins, and no issues with the removal of the sentinel lymph node. Whether or not chemotherapy is warranted remains to be seen but so far so good. While I was recovering at CPMC (aka California Pacific Medical Center) she would drop by to see how I was doing and I knew that I was in good hands. Incidentally, she is the second breast cancer surgeon I had seen for my case and I am so glad I went with her.

She referred me to a surgeon who was on vacation and busy until after the holidays. After my surgery, one would think Dr. Ward would care enough to at least follow up. No such doctor here. Before the surgery, she examined x-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans. She determined that she could safely perform an anatomical replacement of my deteriorated joint. Other surgeons had said the only thing that would work was a reverse shoulder replacement. I trusted Dr. Edwards, and I'm so glad I did. You only get one chance with an operation like this. I am now on the way to full recovery. Her incision was smaller than I expected, and I have had very little pain post surgery. I used narcotic medication for two days, after that just some ibuprofen. She ordered a high-end sling for me, one that even had a little squeeze ball attached to it to exercise the arm. I only needed the sling for about a week. My range of motion is increasing daily, and I am now back to doing most of my normal activities. It's not totally healed yet. I can still feel pain in the joint with some kinds of movement, so I'm careful with what I do so I don't mess up the healing. The truth is, much of the time I don't even think about it anymore. I am SO GLAD to be out of the extreme pain I was in before surgery. I've done some things to facilitate my own healing: 90 minutes of qigong and use of PEMF therapy daily, but all the credit goes to Dr. Edwards. If your shoulder needs help, call her. You won't regret it.

I had struggled with knee pain for a year, was trying everything to get better without surgery, and she was patient and kind and non-judgmental when she saw me a couple of times and listened to me explain why I didn't think it was what she thought it was. Ha, turns out she has MD after her name for a reason, as I found out when I finally agreed to have surgery. She was right, and I had bad enough cartilage tears that they wouldn't have improved on their own. Anyway, post surgery I was mobile in a day; really walking well in a week; the pain was bad the first night but then totally manageable; and a month into recovery, I'm THRILLED with her results. She told me she did the minimum necessary to fix my problem, my knee feels GREAT, and honestly I can't recommend her enough. She has a kind, caring attitude, is funny and is just a real person. We've all experienced the rushed doctor who can't wait to get to the next patient, but that was NOT my experience with Dr. Edwards. Would that all physicians were created in her mold.

I was looking for a better doctor experience than I was getting in a normal practice and so I tried Care Practice and Dr. Zaphiris out. I called on a Sunday and they got me in on Monday. On Monday, I arrived to a very pleasant office with nice people. I saw the Doctor on time. We decided I needed a test which we got done right then and there. Since then we have followed up with 5-10 emails to answer questions and check-in. This is how it should be everywhere. Dr. Zaphiris is kind, knowledgeable, and a great communicator (both listening and speaking). I have so much more confidence in the care I get with her than I did with my previous doctor. I highly recommend.
