I waited a week to be advised that they would not see my mom in assisted living. ONE week for a no, it would TAKE TOO MUCH TIME away from OTHER PATIENTS! What??? Having visited Dr. Zand to receive treatment for a few minor moles and blemishes on my aging and fair skin, I was extremely pleased to find her office had expanded their services to include CO2 Laser treatments. A decade ago I had this treatment performed in conjunction with a mid-face lift at a plastic surgeon's office. Comparatively speaking, having had this procedure previously, the preparation, care and aftercare provided by Dr. Zand and her team has been an exponentially superior experience. After only twenty-four hours since the procedure, I am healing well and expect the recovery to be both swift and complete. I can already tell after a week or two the results will be more than satisfactory. I love Dr. Paula so much. She is caring and attentive, takes you seriously, never rushes, has a gentle touch and a musical voice that is so soothing! I have been in twice for a couple of different skin issues, mainly taking off some moles and age spots that I didn't like. She listened so carefully, took her time, made sure that she answered any questions, and sent me off with very clear instructions and medicines to ensure that the healing process would go smoothly. She also recommended a sunscreen powder for the face that I had never heard of and I love now, as a reluctant sunscreen person (the scent, the mess, etc). We have had some complicated health situations, and this incredible team has handled every step with grace, reassurance, professionalism, and accommodation. (I am also a scaredy-cat with all things medical, and they are incredibly calming!) I have not done any cosmetic treatments, only medical thus far. If you want a real dermatologist, this is NOT the place to go. I went for very straightforward issues and they did not help with either, but still charged me twice what every other dermatologist in Marin charges, including a hefty "new patient fee" which was not predisclosed (I've since heard from a lawyer that this is not legal and I have never been to a dermatologist that does this). I had a rash and I wanted a skin cancer inspection. The skin cancer inspection was far less thorough than all the others I have had. At one point, after a cursory inspection and digital photos, the doctor asked me to "show her" what I wanted frozen off. Errr--it is her job to determine what needs to be removed. The doctor gave me a perscription for the rash that did not work. Over a month later and I still have the rash! But I don't want to go back because I will again be overcharged and I have little confidence in the doctor's ability to diagnose it correctly. The cost was twice the cost of other Marin dermatologists. If you have a serious dermatology issue, go to a different dermatologist--this place is more oriented towards cosmetic procedures and making money. I should mention that they also tried to sell me a bunch of their branded potions after I mentioned in passing that I had rosaecia but did not want a perscritption for that. I bowed to their pressure and purchased one of the 4 potions they were pushing, and immediately regretted it (for the record, it did absolutely nothing). Then, they charged me for rosaecia advice, which was not why I was there! When I later called to question the big bill, they said it also included charges for the digital photos they took, which are free everywhere else. Stay away. read more

I'm 47 and this is the best place for Botox, filler, and all skincare. I live in Los Angeles and fly to Northern California for treatments with Dr. Paula at Zand Dermatology. I've gone to MANY med spas and doctors in LA and I've never had results like I get from Paula. I work with people a decade younger than myself, and nobody knows my age. I want to look youthful, but not fake. Paula is very particular with injection placement and really focuses on symmetry. Her treatments are specific to your face and not generic injection areas like at most places. Plus, she's incredibly gentle. It's an overall pleasant experience with zero anxiety. I went for an annual full-body skin cancer screening, and Dr. Zand was extremely thorough, taking the time to explain everything in detail. She performed two biopsies on suspicious spots. Disappointed to be writing this review but doing so to hopefully spare others time, money and stress. My husband and I try to be wholistic wherever we can. When my husband was struggling with a form of highly visible dermatitis on his face, we came to Dr Zand prepared to pay out of pocket in the hopes of more wholistic treatment options. Within a minute of meeting my husband she was prescribing him a steroid which took us by surprise given her practice is advertised as being more natural. We expected she might recommend steroids as the quickest and most effective option, but thought that would be a secondary or last resort recommendation as opposed to her first line of attack. We had mentioned to her that we were getting married in 2-3 months and figured that maybe under the circumstances she prescribed steroids for expedited results to heal him prior to the big day. So when I found myself with dermatitis a few months later, I figured it was worth giving her a second chance. I arrived punctually and had pre-submitted new patient forms online, but was required to fill out the same forms upon arrival. Id spent 20-30min completing their extensive intake forms online the night prior, as various automated reminders from their office notified me that I was required to do. When I asked why they nag patients to complete intake forms prior when we're just going to be asked to fill out the same forms upon arrival, they said they have not yet figured out how to merge online intake forms with their computer system... To add insult to injury (this was a heavy meeting day for and I was now stuck re-doing the same lengthy forms I'd completed the night prior) I was taken back to 45min after my appt start time. After another 15min of waiting in the room, Dr Zand walks in and within minutes, prescribes me a steroid. I told her that I came to her specifically for a wholistic alternative to steroids and asked if there was something else we could explore first. She proceeded to prescribe me a more natural alternative which she warned me may not be as quick or effective as a steroid but I was happy to make that trade off. I didn't pay nearly $300 out of pocket and drive 60 min round trip to/from mill valley for a steroid that I could have easily gotten from any derm on my block through my insurance. Because my appointment was so rushed due to Dr Zand running behind, she insisted I call/txt her with any followup questions/concerns to make it up to me. When I messaged her a couple of days after starting the topical prescription she wrote me to notify her that it made my skin condition worsen significantly, she responded by referring me to another derm for a second opinion. After all of that, I'm back at square one, searching for a legitimate, qualified wholistic derm who doesn't race to prescribe steroids. Sadly I've had to resort to steroids in the short term due to the prescription she prescribed me making my skin condition significantly worse. read more

The benefit of this place is you can get whatever drugs you want without too many questions. The PA will call in for drugs you need after a 2min phone call. They will bill your insurance for a full doctor visit even though you only had a 2min phone call. Dr. Paula has CURED my acne!! I have been suffering from acne since I was a teenager. I've tried proactive, curology, was the client of a skin scientist (who developed serums and claimed to have knowledge of what works before dermatologists!!), and had a membership to a spa for facials. All of that time and money wasted. Dr. Paula listened to my complaints of breaking out like a teen after being intimate with my husband, but also suffering from aging skin at 45. Lexi, PA-C is absolutely AMAZING! I have been seeing her for Botox and filler since last year. And most recently acne treatment. Although it's only been a week since I started the treatment, I have noticed the biggest difference already in my skin. I first want to start by saying the entire staff was extremely nice and welcoming. However, I was left disappointed in the services I came in for. Here are my thoughts and suggestions for the office: 1. When booking an initial 'medical' appt (vs cosmetic) I reserved online with Dr Zand, only to be called by the office and told she does not do medical, appearing to only service patients with cosmetic appts. This was off-putting but decided to book an appt anyway, as offered, with one of the NP's. 2. This was my first time here and the first patient appt was only 15 minutes. Not enough time at all for a medical appt. First appointments should entail a full inventory and discussion of a patient's needs/current state/symptoms and because of this... 3. An inadequate assessment of needs and inappropriate recommendation of skin products made by the NP. Had there been more time to conduct a full overview of where my body/skin was at, the NP would have hopefully seen the harsh skin care product was not suited for my sensitive skin and would have in fact made it worse. Overall, it seems this office is great for cosmetic services but I definitely do not recommended this office for anyone really looking to get adequate care for robust skincare support for long-term skin health. In my experience, it seems the level of care is surface level. I will not be returning. Tips for the practice: 1. Have an MD available for medical appts. Yes, NP's are helpful, but a patient should have the option to be treated by an MD. It makes a difference clinically and for business ethics/standards. 2. For initial appointments, at least 45 minutes should be scheduled for it. 15 minutes is a waste of time and effort for everyone. read more

Dr. Paula exceeded my expectations. At 47 years old, I'm losing fullness in my face and gaining wrinkles. I've become increasingly self-conscious as I navigate dating at this age. Dr. Paula is patient, reassuring, knowledgeable in a way that I've never experienced at previous places, and she talked me through all my options. We focused on symmetry and areas that concerned me most. We discussed skincare and prevention. I opted for Daxxify, which for me lasts around 5 months! Dr Zand is fantastic! She runs one of the most impressive, efficient, technologically up-to-date offices I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Her staff is among the best in the business. There is zero feeling of 'conveyor belt medicine' - it is highly personal, no detail overlooked from check-in to completion. You are made to feel like you matter. Most importantly, Dr Zand herself is amazing. Not only is she incredibly bright (just have a look at the diploma's on her wall, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, MIT, UC Davis, the best of the best), but she stays totally current with the latest medical trends, and is highly innovative. I'm not one to be overly taken with cosmetic dermatology, but when there is a medical necessity, I more than appreciate Dr Zand's concern not just for the medical outcome but for the cosmetic result as well. Too many other dermatologist just don't seem willing to consider the long term effect of things like Moh's surgery, biopsies etc; too many other dermatologists seem to prefer the 'one and done, thank you - next' type approach. Not Dr. Zand. I was recently diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma on the tip of my nose. It would have been a disfiguring area for Moh's surgery. While Dr Zand's overarching goal was to eradicate the cancer, she went out of her way to suggest a non-invasive treatment that is well established overseas but is less known here. She and her staff shepherded me through the entire process, helping me understand the pros and cons of trying it, while reminding me gently that more traditional surgical cures might be necessary if it didn't work - she was neither building false expectations nor compromising my health in any way. She was advocating for the best possible holistic approach to satisfy both my medical and cosmetic needs. To all of our delights, it did indeed work - a success enthusiastically celebrated by the entire staff! Since then I have had to consider doing a biopsy on another highly visible facial area, and yet again Dr Zand has suggested a new, non-invasive testing approach that we will use to avoiding cutting out a piece of my cheek. I more than appreciate and applaud her knowledge of the options, her care for the ultimate outcome and her willingness to take extra steps to achieve the best results for me. If you are in need of a top notch thoughtful, highly engaged, caring dermatologist, supported an incredible office staff, I would absolutely recommend Dr Zand. Dr Zand is the best! I was afraid I'd gotten bitten by a Black Widow spider over the July 4th weekend. Painful and scary looking pus crater with inflamed red stripe. While the On Call physician from my primary doc's office was abrupt, uncaring and completely unhelpful (Either go to the ER or wait til Mon), Dr Zand let me send her photos and looked at them at 11:30 at night! Her simple instructions brought fast relief. She's a delightful and caring person. She's the best. And I want to add, when I saw her in person for a questionable spot on my nose, she whipped it right off and it never bothered me again. i have been seeing dr zand for a couple of years now. she usually does botox between my eyes and i am getting good results. yesterday i had fillers done on my lower face and cheeks and for the first time ever i was basically bruise free except for a pinhole bruise on my chin. i had been planning on staying home for at least 10 days because i always bruise badly but not with dr zand. she is a real artist at her game. very impressed. i used the arnica gel and ate plenty of pineapple. i would not trust anyone else with fillers now that i have seen her work. read more

I have been seeing dr Zand for two and a half years I had MOH surgery done one my face and pre cancerous growths removed . I am 77 and on Medicare Dr Zand told me her assistant would be seeing me and removing growths. I insisted she do the removal herself. My last visit she wanted her assistant to remove the growth from my face. I insisted she do it. She is was irritated and but did it . She dismissed my from her practice. Stating she would be focusing on cosmetic procedures and difficult surgeries and spending time with her family. I have never had a doctor I was established with dismiss me. Felt really awful. Sad on many levels My age group wants the doctor to do the cutting thank you . Never made a bad review in my life . I had been suffering from TMJ problems--extreme pain in the right- side jaw area for years. I saw multiple doctors about the constant pain. I thought I must have an ear infection, and saw two doctors for that, only to learn it wasn't my ear that was causing the pain. I saw the dentist repeatedly because my teeth on the right side hurt so much. Then I was referred to a dentist who specializes in jaw muscle pain, and she prescribed muscle relaxers and a physical therapist. I did both for months. Still no relief. And the pain showed up on both sides. Then one day, I mentioned my problem to my awesome dermatologist, Dr. Zand. She told me she could give me Botox injections into my jaw muscles and end the pain. I'll never forget the day I went in to get the injections. My face, cheekbones, ears, teeth-- it all hurt so bad. The shots were virtually painless, and within a week or so, my jaw pain was gone! It was life-changing. No side effects, just no pain in my face anymore. It's been months now, and the pain is still gone. I only wish I had known what she could do years earlier!
