    Eating their free cookie

This is a standard stop on our way to Dallas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You walk in to a light airy environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I always get the raisin bread and pecan bread to take home. The chicken salad sandwich on pecan bread is my favorite sandwich. It also has lettuce and tomatoes. The chicken salad is not sweet which is a nice change from my normal one. So yummy! The littles get a free cookie and o get to choose from their large assortment. Some of my favorites are: praline, lemon, nugget, cherry, and Russian rock. The staff is always so pleasant. LaTeka checked us out today and she was sweet, efficient and helpful.

I loved visiting this historical bakery! The service was phenomenal. Pamela was so kind and happy to help us. She knew so much about the history of the bakery and I loved learning from her. There is also a really cute model of the old town upstairs you can check out.

Finally found this place after years - decades even - of searching! If you're passing through Corsicana, it's worth a pit stop for a taste of Texas baking history. Some say it's a haven for fruitcake lovers, but I can't vouch for that. What I can tell you is that the bakery counter has loads of baked goods that should satiate just about any sweet-tooth. The folks behind the counter were quite hospitable, with tongs and waxed paper bags at the ready! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is set out like an old fashioned candy store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Popular, homey, roadside stop between Houston & Dallas.
    Steph D.

All morning, I was thinking about stopping at this popular roadside destination on my way back from Dallas to Houston. I had not been here in a few years. I left feeling just underwhelmed and sort of 'meh'. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a charming destination. And a great break from a road trip.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you like cookies and fruit cake then this is the spot for you! To their credit, this is not your grandma's dried -out Christmas fruit cake. This is a tender, sweet, moist, homemade fruit cake with many flavorful variations. (And free samples!) [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of seating in their bright open dining room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I couldn't comprehend a pecan bread with tuna salad, so I requested homestyle white egg bread substitutions-- and there's a $3.50 up charge - for white bread! It was explained the white bread slices are significantly larger. I found the homestyle white bread dry and wished I would've just stuck with the original menu recommendation. They got my order wrong. And served me a chicken salad sandwich instead of the tuna I ordered. But to their credit, they did fix it and bring me another sandwich right away. The cup of Cheesy Chicken Enchilada soup was the highlight of my meal. Next time, I probably would just get soup and maybe a cookie for dessert.

    Deviled eggs sandwich

We were lured in by the charging stations (which are slow) but we decided to get lunch here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a busy holiday travel weekend and the place was packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff was friendly but the wait was a bit long for carry-out. It seemed like there was only one guy working the kitchen. There's lots of small samples of the different kind of fruit cakes around so you can occupy your time with small bites. The cakes themselves are a bit pricey. We ordered the turkey bacon ranch sandwich and the deviled egg sandwich. The turkey sandwich was good. I've had better deviled eggs but kudos to them for putting them in a sandwich. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did like the vintage photos around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sorry, but probably won't stop again. Been there, done that.

Ask the Community - Collin Street Bakery

Hello, which location is the original and do y'all sell fruitcake all year round? Thank you.

You want Downtown Corsicana on 7th St. The original bakery was on Collin St. but this is the location you're thinking of. Fruitcake is available year-round.

What ingredients are in the cheese crisps? I bought a couple over the weekend when I stopped on my way to Dallas. Do they have rice crispies in them? I'm asking for allergen information.

Yes, they do have rice crispies.

    Any gluten free items?

Dear Elizabeth R, Our macaroons and pecan nuggets are gluten free. However, they are only sold in…

Nestled in downtown Corsicana in a building dating back to the early 1900s, Mita's exudes a trendy yet nostalgic vibe with a fantastic menu to match. We ordered the Chai Tea Latte and the Apple Christmas Tea. They offer several seating areas perfect for conversation, relaxation, or hanging out. A standout feature is their book section, which highlights local authors and adds a unique charm to the space. My wife loved her Chai Tea Latte, calling it delicious, while my Apple Christmas Tea was hands down the best cup of tea I've ever had. We ended up staying for lunch because of doing some remote work. I had the Bacon and Spinach quiche which was amazing! Cristina had the Chicken salad that came with a cucumber salad. She said it was awesome! I would come back just to the cucumber salad! You don't just visit Mita's--you experience it. Well done! If you're ever in Corsicana, Mita's Coffee House is a must-stop destination.

Downhill or just a disappointment to nostalgia? Not sure,…read morebut it wasn't good. Since I was a kid, my dad would make a point to stop here on his way back from work trips in Dallas. He always brought home that famous FRUIT CAKE, and it was the only fruitcake our family enjoyed. It was a holiday staple. This time (many years later) on the way back from my own work trip, I excitedly stopped by for some goodies. It fell way below expectations from the get-go. None of the employees seemed familiar with products, pricing, availability, etc. they all seemed lost (perhaps seasonal help for the holidays?). On a Friday afternoon, there weren't many offerings in the bakery display. Still, I wanted to sample a little of everything. So, I got 2 dozen cookies, some cake slices, breads.... And of course the FRUIT CAKE. I brought the fruit cake to my parents for Christmas, and thank goodness that recipe hasn't changed. That was the only thing that made the trip worthwhile at all.... Everything else was TERRIBLE. Stale, dry, bland, boring. I'm convinced most of it has been sitting on the shelf for a few days (maybe a couple of weeks). Nothing was fresh or tasty. Just ewww. For sentiment's sake, thanks for the fruit cake. Good thing you can order online or find it at HEB.
