Like others who have written reviews here, I couldn't be happier with the work that Collins Roofing performed. We needed a total tear-off on a 45-degree pitched roof. We got a huge range of price quotes and Collins was nearly the least expensive. We asked for the roof valleys to be cut instead of woven and for a radiant barrier, and Collins provided both at no extra charge. We also asked for some time between tear-off and new roof installation so I could install insulation between the roof and our finished attic. They accommodated us by tearing the roof off on a Saturday and starting the installation the following Monday. The roof looks great, and came in at the quoted price, plus a bit extra to replace some rotten wood. They worked quickly and cleaned up completely. Outstanding. read more

Collins Roofing just completed a roof that needed four layers off. They were on time, considerate of parking, and considerate of the neighbors' shrubbery. We have lived in our house for over 30 years and have had all sorts of work done on it by amateurs and by professionals. I am very pleased with my experience at Collins Roofing. When I originally called for an estimate, they were able to come within days, rather than weeks (or more than a month in one case) like some of the other companies I called. Michael provided me with two estimate options because cost was a concern for me, and sent all the info over on the same day. Once I was ready to begin the work, they were great about keeping me informed about their availability and scheduled it as soon as they were able. They originally anticipated the work would make 1-2 days, and it was only half a day's work, total! They cleaned up quickly and when they left, it was like they hadn't even been there. Seamus Collins came out to inspect the roof of a recently purchased home. He told us the roof was 5-10 years old and we did not require a new roof. Seamus, however, pointed out several areas of the roof that needed minor attention to make sure we maintained the roof and keep it in good condition. My assessment is that Collins Roofing is an honest company that will not replace your roof just to replace your roof to make a sale. Their recommendation to hire a handyman to repair some minor roof problems as a result of normal wear and tear was extremely helpful and appreciated. When we moved in to our house a couple of years ago, the Colllins brothers repaired a leak in our old tile roof. They did that work on time at a reasonable price compared to the other bids, and the leak went away. Last month we got bids to replace a shingled turret roof and Michael Collins' bid was again lower than the other guys who had good reviews on Berkeley Parents Network. And again I'm very happy with Collins Roofing. They came when they said they would, they gave good advice about how to trim the turret edge, they cleaned up very well, and I feel that their charges for time and materials for repairing some rot and doing some painting were quite reasonable. read more

These guys did such a good job that I'm here writing my first yelp review! Seamus is great to work with and he had spot-on suggestions on design decisions, e.g. shingle color, drains and other details. The company is just the right size - big enough that they have the resources to do the job well but small enough that Seamus is there checking up on stuff. And the execution was great - I went up on the roof to check it out and the work was first class including color-matched drains, painted vent pipes and perfect flashing. I do a lot of my own work on my house and usually I get frustrated as contractors are always cutting a corner or skipping on details. In this case it was the opposite - they took care of the details in ways that even the ultra-perfectionist owner-builder would skip! We had several estimates to replace our roof and install solar panels. Seamus worked in tandem with the solar company so both projects went smoothly and quickly. Everything was completed on time. Collins Roofing is a great roofing business. They are friendly and give honest assessments. I had them out in 2008 based on a recommendation to look at my roof. The inspector said I don't need a new roof - and he pointed out a few places on the roof that I could improve myself, and gave me detailed instructions for how to do it. When I finally did need a new roof 7 years later, they gave me a very competitive bid and were fast and tidy in the job. Just finished my small claims experience with Seamus Collins, roofer extraordinaire, NOT! Two and a half years after a 5year guaranteed roof mine leaked, and leaked and leaked. I got a response from James after multiple attempts and much damage. I was told to climb onto my roof and do a leak test myself...duh...the water was dripping in my living room! Although Collins admitted some roof failed but most did fine, he still refused to honor his warranty fully expecting me to bear the cost of the new replacement roof and repairs to walls, ceiling, and hardwood floors. Not to mention the mold likely growing from the dampness. I learned he worked out of code applying a third layer to my roof likely causing more problems from the extra weight. I handily won at Small Claims but he choose to appeal and the less than impressive Judge Wynn failing to even read my documents reduced the award by a third, never even commented on the code violations, and never returned my submissions to the appeals (kangaroo) court. I was extremely satisfied with Collins Roofing, who recently completed replacing my roof which not only had two layers of tar and gravel roofing but the original wooden shingles of my 99 year old house. With all that trash coming down they did an excellent job of protecting my garden as well as cleaning up every day. Seamus is a delight to work with. He was on the site every day supervising a team of excellent and polite workers. He performed an excellent job of replacing the dry rotted side boards trimming the border of the roof - a difficult job requiring acrobatics and carpentry skills that are not often associated with a roofing company. He also gladly repaired and painted a plaster crack that appeared in my ceiling as a result of the vibrations of the roofing job. Collins Roofing just completed tearing off my old roof and installing a new one. The job was quite large as it involved putting in scaffolding three stories high. From beginning to end, the owner, Seamus Collins was involved in every detail of the project. Seamus and his brother Ciaran were on the job throughout the five days of tear off and installation. Every day they conscientiously directed their professional and hardworking crew, making sure they did high quality work in a safe and efficient manner. Everyday the crew cleaned up the piles of old roof debris and it was promptly hauled off. In installing new plywood that had rotted through, the carpentry skills of the workmen were excellent. Also, we have a garden with many fragile plants and trees in our yard, and Seamus made certain that his crew did not disturb the delicate plants. I am really thankful that I was able to get Collins Roofing to do this roofing project and now I will have peace of mind when the heavy rains come this winter. Collins Roofing has been a pleasure to do business with. Our roof developed leaks during this rainy winter. We put two tarps up and got another company to come out to look at it. They did repairs that did not stop the leaks. The tarps were held down by bricks and when they left, we asked them to put the tarps back since the leaks were still there. I am not kidding when I say we heard them throwing the bricks down on our already jacked up roof. They charged us a bundle for no results. We decided that part of the roof needs to be replaced so we asked them for a quote to have something to compare against. We also asked Collins Roofing for a quote. Not only did they come in much lower, they scheduled us as soon as the rain stopped, did a fantastic job, painted all the vents and chimneys to match the shingles, cleaned up everyday, had they own porta-potty, and even returned our tarps! It's not often you need to get a new roof and doing so is a daunting and expensive prospect. Collins roofing (Michael, Seamus and Ciaran) had an easy communication style and explained their process clearly, answered all questions promptly and explained differences in what was written in their proposal compared to other proposals I received. They certainly gave me the most confidence of all the contractors I had out for a bid. Apart from the guy who showed up in his sweats with no ladder, no note paper and just a measuring tape, their price was next to the lowest. When I asked them if they would match the lowest price they did. Their work was fast, courteous, tidy and efficient. A bonus that Collins roofing do that most others do not is re-paint the stucco which means you are not left with a house needing a paint job. For me this was a big bonus. Ciaran was on the job all the time and either Michael or Seamus would come every day at least once to check up on the status and answer any questions. Our house has a very steep and broken complicated roof not an easy job and they were done in a week. For sure I would recommend them. read more

Seamus Collins did a fantastic job for us from estimate all the way to completion. We had a gutter and fascia fall off due to wood rot, and received several estimates for both repair and full roof replacement. Collins gave the most thorough explanation of the issue and was among the very few roofers to offer a complete repair solution. Other roofers either offered only a partial repair pending a new roof or could not themselves do major parts of the work (like gutters). Collins did all of it at a very fair price. Not only that, they promised the repair faster than anyone else and were able to get it done even faster than that - all during the El Niño rainy season that had full roof jobs booked many months out. We had Collins do the repair only, but their estimate (and professionalism) for full roof replacement was also top notch. We will be needing that relatively soon and will definitely look to Collins again. read more
