We had a last minute tip on openings for Memorial Day weekend. We really needed to get out for our mental health and get some exercise. The location is ideal. Middle of nowhere, across the street from the riverside kayak dock. Not too far from home but far enough it feels like we got away. We arrived Friday evening. Full park. Full hookup site with a patio area, and fire pit. Our site was the second space across from the clubhouse, store, and pool. Thankfully the pool was closed or it would have been a very annoying visit to hear yelling and splashing kids all day. The site was fine. Backed in our 35' 5-er just fine because we beat a few people across the road. It would have been very tight otherwise. We are fully self contained, so with the exception of check-in we kept away from everyone else. It was surprisingly easy. Their store has a lot of necessary items but mostly treats to make your stay a bit campier. We biked 10 miles to town and back. Dropped in for some kayaking too. Read the signs. There are red runs for advanced kayakers on the river. Logjams, and very high water really made for exceptional conditions. We got to a point we had to turn back and paddle upstream to the launch site at riverside. River was too obstructed. Also note, there is no getting off the river between riverside and the 10.5 miles into town. I don't recommend it. The 2.5 mile run from Bundy rd is quick and easy. Check river conditions before attempting any run. The high waters change river landscapes. I hope you have your own equipment because the rental places either aren't open or they blow you off. Back to the campsite. With all of that, the KOA was central to all the activity. Easy to maintain distance and still get out and be active. Great activities for kids with the jump pad and pond to catch frogs. The facility offers a perk of charging your store purchases to your site, so you don't always have to have money on you. They deliver pizza, Fire wood and ice. They also pickup trash daily between 8am-6pm. Staff is very friendly and quick with a smile and well-wishes. We'd surely go again but would get the deluxe patio site on the concrete. The rain storm Sunday night flooded a lot of sites. read more

We had a great stay last night! The staff was kind, there were a lot of activities for kids, and the bathrooms were clean. They were also family bathrooms which I really enjoy. With two kids, life is faster if my husband and I can work together to get them ready. Plus, I've had enough awkward moments were my child has accidentally opened a shower curtain on me in a shared bathroom, I always appreciate family style bathrooms. As is typical with KOA's the spots we're really close together and it was close to the highway (so we could hear it off and on) Our spot was nice though (#72) because there were two large pine trees right behind our site. That offered us a bit of a block from others. We were just there overnight and looking to do some other activities, so we didn't take advantage of the amenities. They had great activities for your family though. Overall, If you are looking for some family friendly camping or traveling through the area... this is a great option. They also had cabins and glamping tents. read more

My husband and I and kids enjoyed everything in this campsite OASIS! So many things to do there. And props to the cook a homemade breakfast pizza! Excellent campground. Lots of big mature trees offering lots of shade. Restrooms and showers are very clean with staff cleaning them twice daily. Don't even have to leave the campground to keep the kids entertained as there is a lake for fishing, a huge trampoline, pool and hot tub, game room, and mini golf. The general store provides snacks and anything you might have forgotten at home. Pay laundry machines on site. Owners live on the property and are always out and about. This is not a critique and not something the facility can help, but the soil is very sandy, so be prepared for a bit of a mess in your tent, camper or cabin. Close proximity to wineries, breweries and beaches. read more

We stayed here for two nights as a stop over on the way to Mackinac Island. The campground had a very modern clubhouse/store. They will even make and deliver pizza to your campsite. There are many things to do for families, kids and even couples. Hiking, volleyball, bikes, heated pool, jumping pad, are just a few of the amenities. They welcome pets. If you don't have a camper they have some cabins to rent, too. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the sites are pretty close together. We had a pull through and it was a tight turn getting in and out navigating through trees and other occupied sites. It was still quiet private. The campground is 0.5 miles from the exit ramp off the interstate, so if you are making an overnight stop you won't drive far out of your way. Made a visit to Koa on June 15, 2020. Stayed in cabin #2. Woke up in the middle of the night covered in bed bugs. Showed owner proof on my phone of videos and pictures, apparently that is not enough proof since no evidence was found the next day. Was told he would just bomb the cabin himself and did not seem interested in calling a professional to come in. Enter at your own risk! read more

We rolled in Father's Day weekend to celebrate with 3 generations, ages ranging 5 to 53. Had an absolute blast on everything at the park, especially the bouncing pillow and the pool. Not even a brief downpour managed to ruin the fun, it just created more puddles for the little guy to zoom through. Saint Joseph is about 15 minutes away for some more kid friendly activities. The AC in the cabin is great, especially when the temp hits the 90s. Park Staff worked constantly to keep the park clean and safe. Camp store is well stocked, and always has that one thing we forgot to bring. Looking forward to coming back next year. read more

This campground has a lot to offer for families. The staff is friendly and prompt. Ordering wood and ice was fast and easy. Pool area is clean and well kept. Noticed one very bad warped deck board that could cause trouble. Bike rentals are popular and they work on something if it needs fixing. Jumping pillow is popular with kids. Mini golf is nice but probably put in during the 80s. Bathrooms are clean and sites seemed to all be good for camping. One thing they could do is make some rounds after 11pm to make sure the noisier sites keep it down. This campground is close to nice beaches for Lake Michigan and blueberry picking. read more

Picked this place for 4th of July week and . Only bad thing - we stayed to short. KOA staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities were supper clean as well as cam sites . I can't give opinion about Glamping sites or cabins but from the looks of it they were well maintained. This place is supper fun for family with kids . A lot of activities kids can do, pool, playground, bouncy pillow , etc... Visitors are too, very respectful, u have enough privacy. Dogs are welcome !!! Big plus for families with dog. Love to lay back place we're kids can roam free , parents can relax and enjoy peaceful time. Beaches are near and become of proximity one can visit different beach each day and pick what beach fits their likes the most. Will be back at the end of the summer !! read more

We stayed at this KOA shortly after it opened for the season. It was obvious that they had made improvements from the previous year and even though it was still cold and the ground was still frozen they were already working on more improvements! The staff and owners there are very personable and friendly. This has become our yearly stop. read more

This was a pretty standard campground. There was nice scenery and it was good for tent camping, quiet friendly people. The bathrooms were okay, but need ventilation. The pool was small but clean. Not a lot of chairs. The coffee is not very strong so I suggest you buy your own or go somewhere. read more

Nice facilities. We stayed in a primitive campsite and it was nice and quiet. The kids loved the pool on a hot day. The jumping pillow was my kid's favorite! At check in I noticed the pretty well appointed store and pizza that could be ordered and delivered to your site, nice feature. They will also deliver wood to your site, although I thought three bundles for $20 ( or $7 each) was a bit steep. The RV sites are the smallest I have ever seen, very narrow. They did police the place bit too much for my liking but it was just the two of us this time so no shenanigans really. Didn't use the restrooms or showers so I'm not sure how those were maintained. read more

Tried this place as a second destination after buying a new travel trailer. Layout was nice, kids had fun (weather sucked), but the staff was super accommodating considering we forgot a few things. Where do I start? Got here and connections r all over the place and sewer basically under my trailer. I needed to buy another 25' cable line to add to my already 25' cable line to reach the cable box! I couldn't move closer because then I'd b too far from electric and directly over sewer. Ugh. Anyway after buying the extra cable (which I've never needed that much cable anywhere else) the cable is HORRIBLE! Can't even see the picture and constant buzzing over voices. More ugh. So I called the office , no one answered, so I left a message asking if someone could come down and help maybe show me I did something wrong, no response at all, never came down, never called back. It rained last night. I'm in a huge puddle of mud. I'm under water. More ugh. Never ever, never ever again would I stay here or recommend. Wayne did come down and help me move to another site but I was under water again the next day. Only good thing was that's the day I was leaving. read more

This one's not bad. Stayed here for tent camping. The tent campground is well attended and in a semi-open area with trees. Not super private, but good for camping with kids. If you stay here I recommend having a meal or carryout from Di Maggio's a short drive up the road (on 63). read more

This campground is a bit outdated, but it has many many great amenities for the kids. I wish it had more tent campsites. We enjoyed our stay and it wasn't busy while we were there. If this place was packed it might feel to close together. For the st joe south haven area its a good choice though. Not sure if we will make this a family tradition yet or not though. The one above it closer to south haven gets good reviews on ratings but the trees in this camp area were great. And I'd prefer this one to the other one. If I could give this 0 stars I would. Management 0 stars. All they wabt is your money. Very upset about cancellation policy. I tried to cancel 10 days before cabin arrival due to medical conditions and the owner was not willing to refund me. I even was able to supply a medical note. During summer months you know it booked again and it wasn't going to stay vacant. So he made double on the cabin. He could have offered 1/2 the refund at least. I recommend stay at Jellystone in South Haven,Mi, about 20 mins from Saint Joseph but more kid orientated but you they have quite hours which is nice. Beautiful cabins and management knows how to take care of you. read more

This place is fantastic. Super friendly and helpful ownership. Well maintained, wooded and shady sites. Clean bathrooms and showers (which is a big deal to me). Such a nice place to hang out and close to so many great beaches and attractions. My family of 5 and another family of 5 landed here unexpectedly, without reservations and we were more than pleased. 10 people! On a holiday week... this place really came through for us! We have been coming to this KOA for many years now. Unfortunately this last trip was AWFUL! We were put on a campsite that was extremely too small. We were right on top of the other campers next to us. I felt like this KOA is all about a quick buck valuing quantity over quality. They also had our site right up next to the bathrooms where you could smell "EVERYTHING" coming out of those. GROSS!!! Sad to say but we will not be coming back. I think they really need to rethink the size of each lot and work on making it better. For the price, just splurge a bit more for a hotel! read more

Had previously read all the reviews, from last year, so negative, however had friends from out of state who were staying there, what a pleasant surprise.New young owners and family which live on premises ,who have addressed or are currently addressing all previous problems with the campground. Previous complaints about restrooms being smelly and dirty, are now completely not credible. 1.) the main restrooms are completely remodeled with new tile floors, walls and border trim and they are actually separated into 4 individual private bathrooms, which are well maintained. 2..) People complained about sand making the floors dirty in the restrooms or their RV's. Well I live in West Michigan, also, and anyone who is coming to this area for vacation should be prepared to deal with it. All campgrounds in West Michigan have a combination of the ground having some grass with light sandy patches. You can't blame the owners for the area geography. 3.) Some campsites too close together, initially most KOA campgrounds were designed for the maximum campers in an area, however, that was done in the days before Fifth Wheels and Class A's had 4 slides and awnings on both side. At this point they have sufficient room and pull through's with 50 amp that should handle your vacation needs. Final thoughts, this campground has new owners, which are young but experienced campers, with a family of adolescences and seasoned employees, which understand what a good camping experience should be. During their daily business they have addressed or are are addressing the old problems that appeared in previous complaints. They are good people, in a beautiful popular area, who are doing their best to give you an experience, that will make you want to come back. Give them a try, I think you will be surprised. read more

Campground is out dated! Double check your site when reserving, "standard length" for some sites is 20'-30'. Very tight lanes and camp sites. Pool has few chairs and no tables, 6 person hot tub. Very smokey at night and close to the highway. Not a very clean ground, won't be back. Disappointed in the KOA standards. However, absolutely loved the area. St Joseph and the lake shore is amazing! The beaches are incredible! Can't wait to be back, just not at the Coloma KOA. read more

I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone! After weeks of planning and speaking to management about our upcoming visit for my birthday weekend several times we were HIGHLY disappointed ...so much that we left within 1 HOUR of arriving!!!! Check in process was smooth and easy, the front desk lady was very nice and helpful.... but once we go to our spot we found that our camper wouldn't even fit, not to mention this large tree directly on the corner that would restrict us from even putting out our awning (which every camper has). After speaking to our current camper neighbor and a man that actually works for the campground we decided to move camper over in Grass 4' so we can actually enjoy our time! The employee was even present when we were relocating the camper. After getting the camper leveled, water and electric hooked up and set up all of our outside things the OWNER KARLA I believe was her name came riding up in her golf cart. THE OWNER proceeded to walk up with an automatic attitude telling us we have to move not even letting us explain the situation she then talked down to us saying it's obvious the gravel is where you are supposed to park "you would know that" were her exact words. When we tried to get a word in she interrupted us saying "well I'm the owner and what I say goes" I asked for another spot she said no that's it (knowing they have had a lot of rain) then instantly just offered me a refund not even offering to help or offer advice on how to make the spot work! Horrible customer service BY THE OWNER I have been to many other campgrounds and I have never experienced such disrespect myself and all my guests agreed! I would never recommend Coloma / St. Joseph KOA to anyone and this will actually stop me from staying at ANY KOA in the future! After we packed everything back up and went to get my refund I got to see that horrendous owner again, it was hilarious she started with saying how she is "sorry it didn't work out for us" almost laughable! KOA you should really train your "owners" to have better customer service or she should maybe learn something from the nice lady at the front desk! I own a business and I could never imagine disrespecting my customers like she did to us! LUCKILY I was able to book a full hook up site that actually fit my camper at Bear Cave RV Campground in Buchanan, MI which we have been before and was able to salvage my birthday weekend and had an amazing time!!!! We recently stayed in a cabin for 4 nights. We were with a group of approximately 30 people with a mixture of tents, pop-ups, cabins and one RV. Together we all spent approximately $2000 for all of the reservations. This doesn't include the firewood, ice and other store items that we bought. Back to the Cabin... Upon arrival I was disappointed there was only 1 outlet in the cabin. Most people these days have cell phone chargers, small coffee makers, etc. One of the plugs is occupied by the convenient air conditioner. I say convenient because it would be if we could rely on the loose outlet to stay connected. We brought our baby along and had to plug in a baby monitor. Whenever the door closed, or sometimes just on its own, the outlet would stop working. It is a simple fix of just simply changing out the outlet. I brought it to the front desk employee's attention immediately. Ursula advised us to "just duct tape the plugs in tight." I raised concern about a fire hazard and offered to change it myself in exchange for one night off of my rate if they were too busy. Ursula stated that she would talk to the owner. I checked out after our 4th night and Ursula was at the front counter again. I told her that the plug still wasn't working and we were extremely disappointed. She stated that "we don't want to be in there working on it if you're there." We were never contacted to arrange a time for the 15 minute fix. I even bought the outlet at the hardware store. We also weren't offered to change cabins or given any apology for the inconvenience. The bathrooms are dirty. The hot water tank doesn't last long at the south (private) bathrooms. The "night patrol" follows you around in a golf cart without headlights on if you decide to take a walk at night. This campground has great potential, but needs a fresh set of eyes to manage it, and it needs to start putting money back into the property itself. read more

We absolutely loved our stay at this KOA. It was our home base for our beach vacation to the MI Dunes. Only 10 mins to Silver Beach and 25 mins to Warren Dunes. So much to do at the campground for the kids. Spacious shaded sites and clean hot showers. And Ginter and Ursula could not have been more helpful. Will be back! read more

We have been staying here for a number of years for a fall trip. New owners, so need to give them some time to make improvements. Close to highway but noise isn't bad if you are in an RV. Campground is close to St. Joe, South Haven area. Easy on and off exit. Will be back next year!! read more
