I am so covered in welts this morning, I am just miserable. We had reserved space 52 and the cabin next to it for 2 nights, but had to leave after just one night. It was the camping trip from HELL! We were just covered in swarms of mosquitoes the whole time...never seen anything like it! We all were bitten 100s of times! Insect spray did not keep them away. This is not something the campground can't control! Mosquito abatement is 100% achievable! The campground is infested! We also found several ticks. Never going back! read more

Nestled in the protected dunes of lake Michigan, this campground has the best to offer. 59 beautiful full hook up sites, or walk to tent sites for total privacy, who could ask for more. The new bath houses are great. Out door dish washing station, playground, and 2 minute walk to the pristine beach. My family has been camping here for 4 generations and each year it just keeps getting better! This time we stayed in one of the cabins and it was perfect for our family and 3 year old daughter. The park is managed by Aubre and Austin and they are so accommodating, friendly and professional and keep the park in immaculate condition! You can't beat the proximity to Lake Michigan and hearing the waves from anywhere in the park. We have been camping here for 9 years. This year there is a new management company. This by far has been the worst experience we have ever had camping ANYWHERE. We were micromanaged from our sleeping arrangements, to our fire wood, and we're told that we needed to get in our tents and go to bed. We were not being loud. Simply enjoying our fire. We had three sites and 6 kids camping with us and we're told to leave the next morning. Multiple other campers came over to us telling us they didn't hear a sound coming from our site. Management claimed the received 14 noise violations. If you have ever camped here, everyone knows you don't even get a half bar of cell phone service anywhere in the campground. This place is not what it once was. Strict rules and strictly enforced. If you want to be treated like you're 10 at summer camp then this is your place. If the township knows what is happening here then shame on them. It will not be long before this place is a ghost town. There were more empty sites then I have seen the week of 4th of July. I will never camp here again read more

I have been visiting this campground for many years and have never booked a stay due to previous management. This year was our first time camping here and let me tell you, this is by far the best camping experience we have ever had. The new management went above and beyond when it came to making sure our stay was the best experience. From making sure we got to our site okay, to bringing us wood and so much more. Lets just say my the end of it we felt like family. We had booked our next camping trip there the next day. So anyone that want to reconnect with nature, experience lake Michigan and have the most amazing camping experience this little hidden gem is were it is at!!!! This was the worst experience ever!! This was my 4th year going with friends who have been coming to this campground for years prior. It's always been a wonderful experience until this year with the new owners. To start they gave us an issue about "non family members " being in the second tent.. this still confuses me. They had 2 younger kids patrolling the grounds and telling people to go to bed. They came over the first time @10 to tell us to go to bed. The kids that we had with us were sound asleep as we sat around the fire trying to unwind from the drive up and setting everything up. I've never been anywhere, let alone camping where we had "bedtimes". They tried to say they got calls complaining of us being loud but there zero cell service to make an outgoing call there! We were told that we needed to be packed and gone by 9 am the next morning. The poor kids with us woke up thinking we were about to have an amazing beach day but to their surprise we had to pack up and leave. In the 4 yrs I have gone there has never been a campsite open and over half of the campground was empty over the 4th of July weekend! This says A LOT!! If you're looking to have a relaxed time camping enjoying time with family and friends THIS IS NOT THE PLACE!!! If you are looking to be told when to go to bed and micromanaged, then here it is. Sad such a great place has gone in the gutter. We will never be back here. read more

Covert Park is my favorite weekend camping spot. It is a lot smaller and quieter then the state parks. If you want a really great spot to camp, there are two tent sites that are tucked up in the sand dunes. Those are my particular favorites. They also have sites with electrical hook-up, a playground, and a full shower house with flush facilities and hot water. What I really love about CTP is that while they have the same rules as any other camp ground, they aren't to concerned about policing everyone as long as people are being respectful and quiet. I have spend some really great nights watching the sunset, and then stayed out late enough to watch the moon set too. Reservations for weekends are recommended. I prefer midweek trips as the place tends to be less crowded. Also, South Haven is only 10 minutes away. read more

We were greeted by the the nicest couple who manage the campground. They explained the rules and even welcomed our dogs. The bathrooms and showers were exceptionally clean, which is a tough task with so many people using on a crowded weekend. The beach is only a 5 minute walk from the campsites which is wonderful, however, dogs are not allowed on the beach, so I did not see it. I bet it was beautiful. The down side is that the sites are relatively small and your area is roped off. Our tent ended up only 5 ft away from our neighbors tent. This is not my style of camping but I made plans last minute and State Parks were filled. In short, great management, clean and "close knit". read more

Let me start by stating I stopped in first to ask about seasonal sites and the response from the management was less than nice. But i was stupid and persevered thru to tell them I wanted a seasonal site... I have worked in the hospitality biz for years and I know how to properly greet people and treat people. they are not so nice as you may think IT'S ALL A FRONT... If you have a problem they tell you they will handle It and and then BLAME you for having any issues pure non sense... I paid cash to these people to move my trailer and do other things maintenance-wise and basically they felt as if I owed them something. The place is in huge disrepair! So before I knew all this... I went ahead and paid for a seasonal pass 1900.00 and its NOT worth it maybe only 1000.00 TOPS for 6 months If you're looking for the family-oriented vaca, the place is supposed to be free of alcohol- but don't be fooled. I had drunks fighting next to my site the first couple of weeks - so bad that the police were called to remove Underage drinkers all season long People come on your site and smoke and put out cigarettes leaving garbage, butts on your picnic bench do what ever while your gone and NO ONE STOPS THEM! also people park all over and I had one guy pass out on the ground next to my site from intoxication! Nice view for the kids,eh? That was on the last weekend there. But this was my problem -- so said the management The beach always had garbage on it and was filthy almost every day we were there, My wife and kids and I cleaned up garbage daily and never even got a thanks from them. This last issue and MOST DISTURBING of all I had made specific reservations with these people but they never got the reservation right. I requested 2 months earlier the site next to mine so my family would be adjacent to my site. WELL, that never got recorded, so the woman was rude and disrespectful because I had called and canceled the reservation. and after her nasty call, because I never called her back afterwards she felt I owed them something TRUELY INSANE not even a apology for messing up MY FAMILY TRIP they in fact said I was wrong SO If you're looking for a nice family camping experience with any requests, saving of spots, I recommend you steer CLEAR of the place Now lets talk bathrooms-- Women, my wife can attest these are the worst bathrooms ever!!!! I was in the Army and they had better places to shower and go to the bathroom than this place! It always STUNK and smelled like mold Please stay clear of this place... Mark my words I was there for 6month and spent over 2300.00 dollars thats almost 400.00 a month and it got me nothing but fights with these people... What I have written is FACT. I lived it and PAYED my hard earned money. Never a resolve, discount or talk of any refund from them!!! P.S. I have had multiple seasonals spots 1 in Door County and one at SunnyBrook in South Haven which is 10 times better and classier than these people! read more

My boyfriend and I have started a tradition of sorts, to go camping every year and last year we decided on Covert Beach and Campground. We prefer slightly more secluded camping and were at first a little nervous to see that reviews stated that your campsite was only separated from your next door neighbors by a rope. We opted for their primitive sites and camped in the T1 spot. Once we got there we saw the layout was very simple and the non-primitive sites weren't as bad as other people had made them out to be. Sure there are some noisier guests and children running around, but they just want to enjoy their family trip as much as I want to enjoy mine. At night the whole place kind of lights up with all the campfires around and it's rather neat! The primitive sites are all a bit different and you might have to move the picnic table to get a nice level spot for your tent. The T1 site was a bit of a hike but that's what we expected having seen the map of the campsite and choosing a primitive site. They're nicely spaced out from one another and it's quiet. I would suggest this if you're not too keen on other people bothering you. I would love to come here some other time with friends and get one of the other sites where you can socialize more. The camp store was surprisingly well stocked and everything was quite affordable. They sell just about every last minute item you would need and then some. My boyfriend and I enjoyed stopping in to get some ice cream bars on our way back from the beach. The beach has two routes that you could follow. One has less stairs and it situated in a sort of valley between the dunes. The other is a bit of a hike and you go past a few of the primitive/group campsites but it's fun walking on the boardwalk. Unfortunately the stairs going down to the beach had eroded a bit. We did get a warning from the staff when we arrived so it's not like we weren't expecting it. The beach was beautiful however and the dunes were as well. Seeing as though this small stretch of beach is used by the campground it can be a bit littered but compared to the City of Chicago beaches that I grew up with, they were pristine! The lady at the counter was very nice about everything and when I recently called to make a reservation the women I spoke to was very nice. It will be my second time camping there this weekend and I can hardly wait!!! I truly enjoyed this small family owned campground. read more

What a nice surprise! Great little cabin. Nothing fancy, but sturdy and clean. Great to have electricity--we brought a power strip and our coffeemaker. Nice and quiet when we were there, during the week. The best thing about Covert: 5 minute walk to the beach. Woke up one morning at 5:30 am and watched the sun rise on the beach, saw shooting stars. And it's sweet to have a private beach. South Haven is a fun little town--more variety than I had imagined in restaurants and shops. Enjoyed several of their beaches too. All in all, a lovely relaxing 5 days at Covert Park Beach and Campground. It's under new management, and they were friendly and helpful. Camp store nicely stocked. Other campers were friendly and respected quiet hours. May not be true during the weekend, but our weekday visit was peaceful. read more

I am writing this review as a direct response to the management of this campground because they ended up charging us for nights that we did not stay. I will explain below, but please let me caution anyone who is even thinking about staying at this place... your time and money is much better spent elsewhere. I am from Ohio and I have stayed at a few campgrounds, as camping is one of my favorite activities. I first found Covert Campground by searching online for campgrounds on the shores of Lake Michigan. Covert was in my travel radius and from pictures and reviews, it seemed like a simple/quaint campground. Regarding the reviews, the single most complained about thing was the bathrooms. Let me tell you right now, not a single person is lying about the quality of the facilities. I'll elaborate on those in a bit. Check-in was easy. The girl working the desk at check -in was courteous and explained things to me about the campground in pleasant manner. She was even nice to recommend another beach, about 5 miles away, that me and my family could access because we brought our dog. No dogs are allowed on the Covert beach, no exceptions. We were staying in one of the older cabins, they have 4. They have 2 old cabins and 2 new cabins. Once we unpacked, we went to check the beach down the road to let our dog stretch his legs from being couped up for a few hours. Once we got back, we went to make dinner. Let me tell you, nothing makes you hungrier than the full aroma of weed permeating through the campground. This campground is small, and when a group of people start toking up, you start to wonder if you teleported to a Willie Nelson concert. Despite the people partaking in illegal drugs and blaring rap music from their vehicles, I continued to not let it bother me and went about my night. The cabin was O.K. The bunk beds was nice as my son thoroughly enjoyed them. However, the full size "bed" is literally sleeping on wood. There is a plastic mattress that is about 3" thick which offers no support at all. We brought our linens and blankets to make the bed comfortable enough to bear. The campground rules explain that you need to bring your own linens and blankets so that wasn't a surprise. That first night we did check out Covert's beach. It was a nice beach with a good path to get to and from. This was the best thing the campground had to offer, a beautiful beach. The next morning are where things took a big turn for the worse. The 4 cabins are camping cabins, no facilities. There are bathrooms near the office. When my wife went to use them, every single toilet was clogged and full! Disgustingly full. I've used many questionable bathrooms at campgrounds but nothing really compares. The whole bathroom facitlity looked like it has been rarely taken care of with mildew, possibly mold, nasty drains, clogged toilets, and clogged shower drains. There was a shower stall with dirty standing water in it about 2" deep. Naturally, my wife brings this to the attention to people in the office and the first thing that was said to her was "the bathrooms are old, it is old plumbing, and they can't clean the bathrooms 24/7." This is followed by an immature berating; they try to explain that the campground has been turning people away because they are full and how dare we mention anything about leaving and asking for leniency in the form of a refund. Immediately the blame is put on the customer to just deal with this nasty/unacceptable condition. No responsibilty was taken on behalf of the management. Here is the best part. This campground, on a Thursday morning, was holding a gathering for a elderly group in the big cazebo the is RIGHT next to the bathrooms. This group consisted of nearly 80 elders that was having meals on wheels catered in. This gathering had been going on for a couple hours and only when my wife brought up the bathroom conditions, did management find it necessary to address it. There is a lengthy review from an individual about this place that mentions how management is such a pain to deal with because they treat you like you have the problem instead of them accepting responsibility. That person is 100% correct. The management at this place doesn't care if you find the conditions acceptable/sanitary. They just care about getting paid, which they made it quite clear when explaining to my wife that they were going to refund our money for at least one of the two nights that we weren't staying but low and behold the credit card bill came and not a dime was refunded. Look, I understand a no refund policy but when your managing a campground and your customers have no place to shower or use the bathroom without gagging, then that really doesn't mean it is the customers fault. I urge you, reader of this review, spend your time and money elsewhere. There are hundreds of miles of Lake Michigan coastline. There are other campgrounds. read more

I have stayed at Covert beach and campground for over 8 years and before this last trip I always loved it! BUT it recently has new manangment. It has gotten so dirty. The bathroom had human waste and vomit the whole entire weekend and the managers leave the campground quite frequently unattended during the night after 7 or 8. I know the beach is open till ten so Im not sure why there is nobody in the office there . Calls for reservations are not answered and hard to get someone to answer the phones. Cell reception is non existant there so if there was someone who was camping there who needed to be reached in an emergency I am not sure how they would get anyone? I am not sure how anyone would be able to contact them. Weekends are a bit better and they are there most of the time. However I found roaches the season of 2012 in the campground and am concerned with taking them home.YUK. There were thousands by the overlook by the beach.2 inches long. The new managment has made up rules of their own and wont allow anyone to even pick up sticks in the park to start fires. They now charge a 15 dollar deposit for cleaning your fire pit? lol There is a group there who used to have all seasonal . They are back and seem to be trying to control the park again. Long ago it was so dumpy when they were all there as seasonal with drugs and drinking I was told by a long time residant there in Covert. Its to bad because its a beautiful piece of raw beach that is so pretty when its taken care of. The managment before always cleaned,picked up and never did I see the dirty conditions there this year.A dirty diaper layed on that beach all 4 days in early June that I was there. Great location on Lake Michigan, close to the Wine Trail and to South Haven. We went there with a pop-up for a girls weekend. As a campground, it's a little cramped. The hook-ups were situated weird for 1/2 the sites, but we made it work. Lots of trees for shade and a pretty trail to a sandy beach. We stayed here over Labor Day weekend with our teenage kids and it was great. This past weekend my husband and I stayed again so we could do some winery tasting and it was perfect. Just a short walk to Lake Michigan and we saw a beautiful sunset to end our Friday. They are dog friendly here as well. We have spend at covert park three nights and over all it would not be so bad considering manager was really rude, bathrooms were so moldy and disgusting. I just saw a review from last month, were person wrote about those bathrooms being totally clean. I don't know what have happened since then, but the dirt was just coming off under finger, although cleaning lady just finished. I can't complain when it comes to the beach area. It was close from the camp ground and never crowded. Kids could just get ready and go when they just felt like it. I can't say the same thing about the campsites that were small and there was no privacy, also the rule is to leave the side clean and I would expect the manager to get it ready for other campers who will come next, but when we arrived garbage was in the fire pit and left over food was on the table, again very disgusting. This is not our first camping and we saw much better places for the same amount of money. Let's just say we will not come back to this place again. read more

First time here. Arrived on a Sunday, left on a Friday, stayed in a cabin. The campground was not very crowded and it was delightfully quiet. Cabins are great if you like car camping and an indoor retreat. The hosts are wonderful and it is a 5 minute walk to the Lake Michigan beach. We went out at 4:00 am for star gazing and it was unbelievable. A quick 20 min drive to South Beach with fun shops, great food, farm stands along the way. My family just spent 4 nights at Covert Park Beach and Campground and we had a fabulous time. It's a small, wooded campground, which makes it a very cozy and warm place to stay. The owners of the campground were very nice and helpful, and the other campers were extremely friendly as well. There seemed to be a lot of locals and campers who come back year after year. It was our first year camping with a trailer and we had a difficult campsite to back into - but the campers in the sites nearby were quick to help and we were situated in no time. The beach is beautiful. It's well kept, very private/quiet and is super close to the campsites. I would have to say that the best campsites were in the back - numbers 39-45 and all of the hike-in tent/primitive sites were very nice as well. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot. The convenience store has all of the necessities you'll need if you forgot something and it's reasonably priced. We never had to leave the campground, which was great. The only thing I'd say is that the playground could use a touch-up and bring your own firewood in (the bundles at the campground were expensive and wet). read more
