I haven't been to this location since its past life as a BBQ place, but have been keen to visit Outlaw Saloon since they opened last year. The atmosphere is tight! Now the decor would be nuthin if the food were lousy, but here they do all right too! More than all right. I tucked into the rodeo burger, thick and juicy, well-seasoned and satisfying, with a side of excellent fries. The same could be said for the pork cowboy, a grilled pork chop with a crispy, slightly charred crust, topped with a melting pat of herb-seasoned butter. I wasn't crazy about the pork riblets which were kind of tough and chewy, and not at all spicy for Nashville hot. Next time I will opt for the wings. We happened upon an open mic night, and it must've also been a bike night as a bunch of bikers were gathered on the outside patio (didn't expect to see that in Chestnut Ridge, honestly). The atmosphere was very lively, and we enjoyed the amped up acoustic sets. Needless to say, it was a busy night, but service was not lacking. Our waitress Melinda was super sweet, and I think the owner(?) also came out to check on things. 4.5 stars but rounding up to 5 for aesthetics, ambiance, and cool folks. This is a fun place to hang. I like them very spicy, and they were a bit short there, but they were hot enough for most people, including my better half. We both ordered the rodeo burgers medium rare. These are a hefty half pound. They were charred on the outside, which is wonderful though the burger was closer to medium than medium rare. They have a huge selection of draft beer, whiskey and bourbon. I was very excited to see Defiant, which ordered. Over the years, I've noticed that both the food quality and service have been inconsistent. There have been visits where I left very satisfied with both the staff and the food. However, there have also been occasions when unexpected charges appeared on the final bill, which was disappointing. On this most recent visit, the food was good overall, I'd describe it as average and fair for the price. The restaurant was busy, though not completely full, since they were showing the Brazil vs. Norway soccer match. They definitely have the setup and atmosphere for soccer fans, especially with the World Cup excitement. One downside involved our drinks. We ordered a Passion Fruit Margarita and a Passion Fruit Caipirinha. Since they looked almost identical, we weren't sure which was which when they arrived. The drinks were dropped off by the manager, not our waitress, and he walked away immediately. When we called him back to ask which drink was which, he replied in a slightly ironic tone, "Which one do you think it is?" We explained that was exactly why we were asking as we could not identify. He then said one had sugar on the rim and the other had salt. Unless you're a bartender or taste each drink, that's not immediately obvious. It wasn't a major issue, but I was surprised by the response. A simple, courteous answer would have been appreciated. There was another interaction that left a similar impression. We asked our waitress approximately how long the food would take because we were considering ordering an appetizer if the wait was long. Her response was simply, "I don't know, and I can't tell you how long." While I understand exact times aren't always possible, a more helpful response would have gone a long way. I would have gladly given this place one more star if those service interactions hadn't happened. The food was decent, but the customer service made the experience less enjoyable. I'm not sure whether I'll choose this location again, especially considering it isn't an inexpensive restaurant. I hope they can improve the level of hospitality because the food and for this World Cup season the soccer atmosphere certainly have potential.
