The ice cream here is delicious. I love that they have so many selections. The ice cream is velvety and creamy. The staff is really nice. You can try some flavors before committing to one to leave with. There is some outdoor seating which is nice. They only take cash though. There is an atm in the store but if you prefer not getting charged fees because of withdrawing from it, I would bring cash before coming. This place is so cute! Right on route 27 I've driven past it so many times and finally stopped by. There's a small parking lot on the left and behind the ice cream store. This place is CASH ONLY. FOOD - limitless flavors and flavor combinations! tons of toppings too not just sprinkles. They have milkshakes and Italian ice too. I was basic my first time and got small cone vanilla soft serve with sprinkles. I love that they fully coat the soft serve with sprinkles. I asked for an empty cup so I could use it in case the ice cream starts melting. Instead I put it upside down in the cup and it fit perfectly. The small cone soft serve fits a medium cup. SERVICE - friendly staff and very quick turnaround on order time. When I went there was a long line so there was someone outside taking orders. The menu is inside it's written big but there's soooo many flavors that if you haven't been here you need time to read through. That's partially why I just got vanilla. COVID - the inside is completely closed. There are two windows, one for placing your order and one for pickup. You stand around outside while waiting. I wish that they had the menu painted on the windows or on a chalkboard outside. Since we can't go in it's hard to see the menu unless you stand up against the window. I mean you are an ice cream store and you should know how to be sweet and nice to kids and customers, however none of the young staffers here know any of that. However, the parking lot is randomly big for the space and the establishment has a proper small seating area in the back to enjoy the ice cream. I had the peanut butter butter cup (I think) but whatever I had was delicious. It was chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and tasted like a Reese's. The ice cream is as smooth and creamy so it was delightful. However, some of their flavors tasted a little freezer burnt which might impact the customer experience in this establishment. Nonetheless, a small is a lot of ice cream in my opinion so it's worth a try. I would skip the ice cream sandwich but it intrigued me because it was soft served ice cream in the middle. Maybe their soft served ice cream or Doll whip isn't that good? It really hasn't changed much except for the faces behind the counter and several flavors on seasonal rotation. Everything is pretty fresh and rich with flavor.. I personally like the chocolate marshmallow with rainbow sprinkles or the chocolate soft serve with rainbow sprinkles. It can get really packed---to the point the line is winding out into the parking lot. Quite annoying if you literally want one thing but that just means the place is extremely popular. This is going to sound dorky, but a few years ago they had one I think it was called Smurf--bright blue ice cream that stained your entire mouth with marshmallows. Clearly sensing a theme here, but it was so creamy and unique plus a riot when you smiled. I purchased the sugar cone a few days ago with 3 large scoops of ice cream and didn't finish it. Had to store in the freezer for another day but it cost about $5.50! Will be a loyal fan for future generations to come! read more

The wait was long because EVERYBODY IN ISELIN was there. The eight staff were really hustling. Ok, so first things first: great ice cream. Great toppings. Generous servings. Fair prices. GREAT service. Jamie made sure she got my order right. She checked back with me step by step (I was getting a rather complex banana split) and she was happy to do it. Big personality, great energy, she made the experience fun. One small criticism, they say 40 flavors but I only counted 34. 36 if you count the soft-serve chocolate and vanilla. I'm one of those weird people who isn't super into sweets, but when I find something sweet I love I latch onto it, and Colonia Dairy Maid is one of those places. The store is an old style place with a slanted roof and tables/benches outside to eat the delicious treats you purchase inside. The interior is an area to order with a huge chalkboard sign overhead that lays out all the amazing flavors they have to offer. The staff is always cheerful and greets you with friendliness even towards the end of the day when I'm sure they're getting tired. Colonia Dairy Maid has (as advertised on the side) 40 flavors of ice cream including coconut, pistachio, mango, mudslide, coffee and more. They also have a little over a dozen different flavors of Italian ice. Today I had their mango ice cream which was creamy and just sweet enough without being overwhelming (something fruit flavor ice creams don't always achieve). My girlfriend had the Passion Fruit Italian ice which was tangy and sweet with a wonderfully smooth ice texture. I've also had the pistachio ice cream before which had just the right combination of sweet and savory that I love. The portions are pretty amazing. A standard scoop of ice cream is called their "Dixie" size, which is about all I can take in one shot - all for less than $2. The small looks like a medium to me and so on, it's simply awesome. I have not sampled them yet, but they also have pre-made ice cream sandwiches and cakes that you can drop in and purchase to go. If you don't want to take my word for it, just visit on a warm day and see how many people pile into this place. I went today when the place was about to close and I was only one of three customers. By the time I sat outside to eat my ice cream over twenty other people showed up and they just kept coming as I left! I'm really happy that I found this place by accident. It's not far from where I live and it has wonderful, reasonably priced treats. I know I'll be back regularly this summer (and beyond). read more

And for all the clowns that are going to say, "you go there for the ice cream, not for the personalities," you are the problem and don't know the first thing about customer service. My friends and I went to Colonia Dairy after hearing positive reviews from my other friends. There's an array of flavors to select from and we were indecisive. We ordered three different flavors: coconut, Swiss chocolate almond, and chocolate fudge nut. The chocolate fudge nut is the best-seller, according to the employees. All three flavors were super refreshing and creamy. My friends and I loved the chocolate fudge nut because there is a great crunch on the nuts in every bite. The coconut flavor was my second favorite because it's light and fluffy; it almost reminds you of a Pina Colada. The Swiss chocolate almond was very delicious as well. The Swiss chocolate texture had an extra creamy texture. All of the ice creams are made in house. Love the Pineapple icecream here!! This place never fails to disappoints me. My favorite icecream is the Pineapple icecream here. It has chunks of pineapple in it which enhances the flavor. I have been here with couple friends as well as family. The only downside to this place is the limited amount of parking and the fact that they only take cash. Who doesn't love ice cream?! Really?! Even lactose intolerant folks wants ice cream but sadly have to pass some times. After reading and viewing some pic reviews, I had to stop by here. I noticed on my drive that Carvel ice cream is literally down the block but it's empty comparing to this joint. As I pulled up and parked in their lot, (yes, there's a parking lot with plenty of parking spaces), I noticed the number of customers outdoors enjoying their ice creams. The second thing I noticed is the number of red benches and tables outdoors and there are plentiful seatings when comparing to other ice cream shops. Third, I noticed the sign on the side of their shop, "40 ice cream flavors"!!! I walked in and yes, even though there's a line of customers, it moved fairly quick. There's many staff and yes, they are all friendly. The most challenging thing is really knowing what ice cream to order. With 40 flavors to choose and also Italian ices, it was difficult to choose! You can ask for a tasting if you're not sure what to pick but be prepared for dirty glares from other customers as you're holding up the line. Kids come comes with a cone holder for any ice cream drip which is great. Their small cone is two huge scoops. Their small cup is about a pint size. Honestly, had I known the size of a small order, I'd share. The prices are a bit expensive similar to Dairy Queen's but hey, this is why I call it a sweet treat and not meant for everyday dietary. read more

Great to see they're taking precaution but the windex was spraying ALLLL over the open ice cream. It's common sense to not spray it over open food that you're serving to customers. I live 20min from 40 Flavors now but I was in the area this weekend and was so happy to stop by for a cone. Just like another reviewer mentioned, their mud pie flavor is AWESOME! So chocolatey, a little bit coffee-y goodness. It's both my sister's and my absolute favorite. If you don't know what flavor you want you can take a peek at the list from outside. They have a solid social distancing system in place where you order in one window and pick up at another. You have to listen for your order number but if you can spot what you ordered through the glass walls it helps a lot. Since I got 2 scoops on a cone (and one scoop was bright green mint chip) I knew exactly when my order was being completed so I could go right up to the pick up window and not leave the staff waiting for me. If you know this place you know how long the line gets, and that hasn't changed! If you can, I recommend trying to go mid afternoon when there are significantly less people. Once it's the dinner hour you'll definitely be waiting with a lot of folks but everyone is good about being safely distant :) Very happy to be able to support 40 Flavors during this unique summer season! read more
