To me a one star is to much for the poor way Mike presented himself when he came to give a bid for doing some vinal floor work. When he came in he smelled like an ash tray. Alsomst looked and acted like a person from the street. Then as soon as my wife asked him in he strated right off of telling us about the stink in his truck and such, All about they found a rat in his truck fan. I wanted a bid not his sad rat story. So first we showe dhim the first room and what we wanted done. Wow he came up with all kind of way he wanted to do the job. We wanted the old vinial removed and he just wanted to throw a 1/4 inch plywood over it and lay new flooring. We could see right away that he was not going to do it the way we wanted. I done constructtion work for many years so knew he was being really stupid. I told him , lets not waste anymore time. You trying to do the job the cheep way and cut corners and asked him to leave. We will never step inside of this business again. We had plans of having them also do whole house carpet job. Mike blew that due to his poor business attiture. read more

We visited Rick at Colonial Carpet where we were shown a large inventory of handsome wood flooring samples. Later, when returned to make our final selection, we met Michael, who helped guide us through the wood species choices. After we discovered differing concrete floor levels from several room additions, Michael recommended floating a new floor which was done efficiently and made for an excellent installation. When an incorrect transition piece was shipped, Colonial Carpet replaced it with the correct color without issue. The installation crew, guided by Martin was efficient, quiet and were careful to do an excellent, quality job. Our original plan was to use engineered (real) wood only in the kitchen, but because of the reasonable cost, the new floor now extends into the living room, making the space seem larger, with a significant upgraded quality look. It was time for a complete flooring upgrade throughout our home so it was quite a large job. We walked into the showroom one weekend and were immediately guided through nice options for both carpet and hard floor by Michael that suited our taste perfectly. We were also guided through supply chain issues which was a problem at the time. Our product was received quickly and installation could not have happened easier (or quicker either). A wonderful small business that had everything we needed and more! Fast forward a year to a crazy winter with nonstop rain. Our chimney in one of the rooms leaked and soaked our carpet. I called Rick to ask what I should do. He immediately got back to me with his suggestion. We pulled the carpet up, rented some fans from Home Depot. Extremely happy with our new carpet. Went in to look at samples. Michael was great at explaining the differences and showed us the back area where prices were lower than the front showroom. This was our first time buying carpet so hearing the differences really helped. We have 2 dogs and a baby on the way so we found a great longer lasting carpet. Michael came out to measure the 3 bedrooms and gave the final amount which was below what we expected to pay for new carpet. At no time did we feel pressured to purchase or go to higher prices carpet. We were able to get the free padding upgrade with mentioning Yelp. Installation date was set for a Saturday so we wouldn't need time off from work. Only downside was we were told we would get a call the night before installation with a time estimate. Didn't receive one. Wasn't too bad since we were told by Michael at the measuring day that they typically start after 8:30am. So we called at 8 am (when they opened) and was told between 8:30-9am. The installer showed up right at 8:30 and began tearing out the carpet (furniture was already moved out by us during the week prior). Everything was complete and clean 4 hours later. Did a great job. Really happy with the whole process and definitely recommend Colonial. read more

This is an established business that has been at the same location, with the same staff, for the entire 10-years I have been visiting their store. Rick and Wayne are very friendly, professional, and knowledgable about all aspects of flooring. The showroom includes a wide variety of carpet samples and the open warehouse is filled with nice rolls of carpet. The pricing is upfront and easy to understand. No shell game or hidden figures like the big box stores. This week I had Colonial Carpet replace the carpet in my very large family room. I selected from one of their in-stock rolls and the guys were here 2 days later to install it. They called just before 8 am to let me know when they would arrive, and then called to let me know they were on the way. The installation crew were pros, wore face masks, and did a beautiful job! I'm happy to report that Rick called me first thing the morning after posting this review and I explained my frustrations and he gave me solutions which is what I wanted. It was not my goal to post a "psycho review" or push to get more than I paid for but to get a solution to the many problems we had. Colonial carpet held up their end and came and fixed everything, did everything the way it should've been and the floors feel 1000x times better. No attitude, no nonsense just well done floors. I wish we would've had this experience from the beginning but all that matters is we at least got what we paid for. My husband and I are elated to feel solid, flat, and just as importantly beautiful floors. Within 2-3 days of my initial review Rick and Christina made sure we were taken care of. After visiting Home Depot, Lowes, LA Carpet, etc... we stumbled upon Colonial Carpet after seeing an ad in the OC Register. The ad mentioned that they were a recipient of the Register's "OC's Best Carpet/Flooring" consumer-voted recommendation. Since most of these recommendations simply go the first place people can think of when making a selection (i.e. , Best Pizza - Pizza Hut... eh, right.) , actually gaining this recommendation might actually prove worthy of at least taking a look. After visiting Colonial we were reminded of just how retail business must have been conducted years ago. No pressure sales, excellent customer service, knowledgeable sales staff, etc.... and a willingness to spend time showing us sample after carpet sample as we looked for that "perfect" carpet for our residence. Prices were comparable to what we had seen elsewhere and included padding, furniture moving, old carpet haul away, etc... no hidden fees or gimmicks. At their suggestion we scheduled a measurement (where our potential selections were brought to our house for final selection) as we were confident that we could finalize a purchase agreement during the visit. We negotiated a reasonable price and installation was scheduled and the carpet ordered. (To their credit a minor oversight with regards to the measurement was noted in our favor and the balance due was adjusted accordingly.) Installation went as scheduled and on-time, two Colonial installers completed the entire job in one day. They moved all major furniture from each room (you must move EVERYTHING else from the closets, floors, etc.... this in itself was a massive job for us!), and hauled away the old carpet and flooring debris. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Colonial Carpet for their professional and businesslike approach to our entire transaction - give them a look! read more

I was really happy with Colonial Carpet. When we first arrived, Michael helped us and was very attentive and helpful. We knew right away that we were going to get our carpet from them. We picked out a remnant carpet (they have tons) and was really happy with it. They were really great about setting up a time and then calling ahead of time to let you know they were on their way. Great customer service! The two guys that came to take out our old carpet (we did it separately cause we were painting), were awesome. I think their names were Thomas and George. Very friendly and good work ethic. The guys that came back to install were not as friendly, but did a fantastic job installing the new carpet. I was shopping at Home Depot and got a carpet estimate, made an appt for carpet measuring, but the price seemed steep so I checked on Yelp and found Colonial Carpet. I requested a quote through their own website, and got a call from Michael within 10 minutes. Very impressive. He said he could get someone in to measure ASAP, but it would be difficult to get a quote if i didn't know what carpet I wanted. He suggested I come by the shop and choose a carpet I was interested in. I stopped by and Michael was very pleasant. He didn't ask what my budget was, he gave me different price points depending on what my budget was. To me, that was important because I didn't feel like he was trying to sell me. Talk about easy! We needed our home recarpeted, and heard about Colonial from friends. The estimate process was simple, yet thorough, we talked budget, and Greg found us the perfect match. What I was most impressed with was the next day installation that only took 5 hours! With the work from home order in place, our dining room has turned into our everything room. Part office and part home gym. However, the old carpet in the dining room was driving my allergies crazy with years of dust, dirt, and dog dander lodged in. Plus the room smelled musty which was the result of me not using our carpet cleaner correctly. Michael from Colonial carpet came and gave a bid which was the 3rd lowest on price. And while price is great you often get what you pay for by going the cheapest route. Took a week from the time of ordering the carpet to the installation date. The install crew showed up at precisely 8AM on the dot (time as promised) and it took two hours to do the install. Due to covid-19 I opened all windows to the dining room, taped up thick plastic painters drop cloths around the doors to the dining room, and allowed the room 24 hours before re-entering to spray down with disinfectant. Results are fantastic, I did not catch covid as alot of folks might have thought by inviting contractors in, and my allergies are night and day better! read more

Buyer beware! I went to Colonial Carpet and Flooring for a kitchen floor. Their prices include installation so you can't compare to other vendors who price flooring and installation separately. The salesman came to my house and measured - 230 sq. feet. I was going to get vinyl luxury plank flooring. When I sat down to get a final price, there was an additional charge of $95 to move the refrigerator and $35 to move the stove. They only need to be moved a few feet for the planks to be installed then pushed back into place. The fee to replace baseboard in only a portion of the room was $130, and baseboard choices are very limited. The end molding, connecting flooring to carpet, cost $60. When I got an estimate from a second installer, the measurement was 204 sq. feet - and that was correct, with some flooring left over. Baseboard was $110. The end molding was $34. I bought NuCORE Performance, high quality flooring, elsewhere and saved a lot of money by avoiding Colonial Carpet. read more

From the start, Michael did a great job woth communication--checked in after my online inquiry, but was not pushy at all. We went into the store to look at some samples and he was able to help us on the spot pick out great, high quality materials that looked wonderful together and were the best quality and durability for our budget. First i was looking for a company with a reasonable pricing to removal and install my whole house with new carpet. I went to Home Depot and the remember an ad in the OC Register for this company. I went there and Michael show me the products in the front and then in the warehouse in which I could save some money. We then decided that we would purchase the carpet in the warehouse and use their in- house installers. Michael did the measurement in same day we placed our order for the on hand carpet. The installation was schedule for two days and went very smooth. Installers were outstanding and answer any question I had. I understand why they are OC Best. I highly recommend them. read more

This is a long overdue review of one of the best companies I have ever done business with. The first time I used Colonial Carpet was in 1983 for an apartment complex. The work and prices were excellent. Since that time and now a 2nd. generation owner, their business practices have never changed. They measure honestly, have excellent prices and all the installers do excellent work. I have moved 3 times and they have done all the carpet and flooring in all. Also, Rick and his team take care of my rentals and show the same consideration and quality for an apartment as my personal home. I can easily see why they have so many 5-star ratings.
