I was in the Petersburg area and needed wiper inserts for my 2011 Civic. I called to confirm the parts were in stock and stopped by on a Friday night around 5:40pm. There was no one in the service area, but an employee noticed me and instructed me to purchase the inserts from the parts department and pay for them at the cashier, then he'd get a service technician to install them for me. The parts guy, cashier, and service technician were all very friendly. Even though the tech mentioned that he was the only one working due to vacations, he took the time to show me how to install the inserts. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. A family member contacted me about a warranty issue with a cash purchase of a vehicle a couple years ago. The battery had been replaced 6 months ago- the vehicle broke down again- was towed to this location. There was at best tenacious communication with the family member & the shop manager. The situation was finally handled by a salesperson- Tory Gilbert who offered to purchase the vehicle. The main thing is he was empathic but nicely emphasized the warranty situation. He was courteous- professional & provided excellent feedback to the owner & myself- he deserves a 5 star but not the dealership in my opinion. There was a breakdown in communication with the shop manager & owner. I'm happy Mr Gilbert was effectively able to tone down the rhetoric. The lower rating for the dealership is because it was evident the "bumper to bumper warranty was not thoroughly explained- it was an opportunity to sell the warranty- so the owner had to purchase another battery & get the vehicle on the road himself. He was very laid back and extremely courteous as well as a good listener. I told him what I wanted and he had me matched with my Honda Civic in about 10 minuets. Let me start by saying I have bought 5 Honda's from Colonial Honda. I took my car to be serviced 6/2/2023 for an oil change. I was told I was due to get my tires rotated and balanced along with some other recommendations. I paid for my services and went my merry way. The next day as I was loading groceries into my trunk I noticed my back passenger side tire. Back in April of this year while in Washington DC, I hit a curb and put a slit in that back tire. I had to get that tire replaced at a shop called Arlington Tires. So all of my tires are the same brand except that one tire on the back passenger side. Well after paying for a tire rotation, that tire was in the same spot. So Colonial Honda took my money and never rotated my tires. I went back up there this morning and the person who I worked with yesterday told me their computer systems were being wonky and that may have been the issue which made absolutely no sense. If that's the case was my oil even changed?! She apologized and offered to get it done today but I didn't have time. I was in Colonial Honda for almost 2 hours the day before. Clearly a waste of my time. I only knew the tires weren't rotated because one tire is a different brand. Had that tire never been damaged, I would've never known. I'm contacting corporate and the sales services manager Monday morning as I discovered this on a Saturday. He sent me a purchase agreement and I even told him I was coming and would be there before noon the following day as I live 2 hours away. I took off work and was half way to the dealership and received a phone call from one of the sales persons telling me the vehicle was sold the previous night literally after an agreement had been reached. I thought this must have been a mistake. I called back and spoke with the Sales Manager and he explained the vehicle was sold and there was nothing he could do but apologize. Whether a better deal came along or not I think it's terrible business practice to treat your military customers this way. Complete waste of my time. Made an appointment to test drive a used Ram 1500 with very high mileage. I had been in constant communication with the Internet sales manager regarding this vehicle over the previous two months. I informed her that I am a bottom line no nonsense type of guy and would appreciate a salesman who would not jerk me around. She said she had the right guy for the job. I could not start the vehicle because there was no gas in it. Even though I had made the appointment several days in advance, no one took the time to make sure the vehicle was ready. After about 30 minutes they got gas in the vehicle. Started the vehicle, put it in reverse and I immediately heard a whining noise. I still took it for a test drive and put it in reverse several more times. The noise was prominent and very audible. When I returned to the dealership I told them about the problem and requested their service department check out the noise. I gave them a week to investigate and repair the transmission. After that time I contacted the salesman and asked what had been learned by the service department. He told me that all of the fluid levels were OK and the service department did not find any problem with the transmission. I set an appointment and returned to pick up the truck and bring it to my mechanic to have him check it out. It was determined that the truck would need a new transmission very soon. The transmission shop next-door to my mechanics shop concurred. Both businesses have been long-standing members of the local community. Both recommended I not buy this vehicle! Took the truck to another well known and reputable transmission shop for a third opinion. Same result. I returned to the dealership and spoke to the salesman. I told him what I discovered and he went to talk to the manager. After about 15 minutes he returned and informed me the manager knew all along about the bad transmission but chose not to get it fixed. The problem I had is that he chose not to disclose it. Of course, the salesman then tells me that they could have the truck fixed in 2 to 3 days. And proceeded to hand me a sheet of paper detailing finance operations... Even though I told him that I would be paying the full amount in cash... So obviously they do not listen. I realize I am not a mechanic but it was plainly evident to a simple minded person such as me that it was a major issue with this truck. I asked them all along to please not waste my time... All total, I wasted about eight hours of my time off. I looked at the salesman, pushed the piece of paper back over to him after circling the missed quoted sales price and I am formed him that I was done! I was very upfront from the beginning and told him that I did not want to be jerked around and that's what was happening. I point-blank told him that I could never trust the used car sales manager nor himself... The goodwill and trust that had been built up to that point completely vanished. I thanked him for his time and walked out of the dealership... Never to ever return again! Funny thing that I find amazing is that the salesman did not even attempt to win back my business. The Internet sales manager never attempted to repair the damage. If they were truly concerned about customer service and loyalty, the used car manager would have come over to me, fall on his sword and apologize. I had to order an Uber ride home and waited for approximately 30 minutes outside of the dealership. This time period gave all of them ample opportunity to come out and apologize... Having heard nothing but good things about Colonial Honda, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. We went in shopping for a certified used Honda and left with a bad taste in our mouths instead. After realizing that they wouldn't budge off their internet price for a particular car (it's a blessing and a curse, the Internet: on the one hand you can shop the dealers online to find the car you want at the price point you want, but on the other hand there's absolutely no haggling below that price--and that's true at Colonial and every other dealer we visited for certified preowned Hondas), we decided to leave. Nothing against the salesman and dealer, we just felt we could score a better deal elsewhere. (And we did.) But as we attempted to leave, our salesman basically called us liars about a fact that HE misrepresented and then refused to shake our hands! Completely and utterly unprofessional. Sales manager talked over top of me and refused to give me a yes or no answer on my offe--until we got up to leave. Absolute best price was just $200 off sticker and still $2K above Edmunds' "what people are actually paying" figure. You'd think that a dealer who advertises online would understand that customers are researching prices, too. Next day, salesman calls while I'm at another dealer with a new lower price--which still wasn't a great deal. I told him either the market for pre-owned Pilots had changed dramatically in 24 hours, or the sales manager was a liar & that if he wanted to get my business , the clock was ticking. Had to call HIM back to check their deal vs. one in front of me at other dealer. Sales manager said salesman would have never given me the offer he did. I recently purchased a new car and overall it was very good experience. I dealt with "G" from the internet team. He responded to me quickly even when he was out of the office. I handled the transaction online and negotiated the price before I went in. Therefore when we arrived at the dealership we essentially just needed to do the paperwork and drive away the car. The price we got the car for was really good and significantly less than some of the other Honda dealership's in the area were quoting. The only dealership in a similar ballpark with price was Fast Team Honda in Tidewater. Yes, I pretty much called every Honda dealer in the state to solicit pricing! :-) When you get pricing make sure you get the out of the door pricing. As a lot of dealers may leave off certain fees (like freight) to make their price look more enticing. read more

I purchased a new CR-V from Colonial Honda and had a great experience. The price of the vehicle was very favorable in relation to other area dealers. The sales manager I worked with, Judd Barker, was very honest and straightforward. For his initial quote, he made a calculation error in my favor. Rather than walking back on the quote, Judd was honest enough to honor it. The rest of the team was also great to work with. They didn't add any shady fees or try to up sell me on the extras (or at a minimum, they didn't try very hard to up sell). You don't have to worry about having some unscrupulous salesperson trying to pull a fast one on you at Colonial. Overall, the dealership has very competitive prices and employs honest, hardworking people. read more

I flew from Los Angeles to Richmond to purchase a hard to find model and drove it back to LA. To make a long story short, despite Colonial Honda performing a VA vehicle safety inspection and passing it, I took the car to my mechanic a week after I purchased it and was told it needs $1295 in repairs. All of the items which need repaired or replaced were items which were suppose to have been checked during the safety inspection. (If you google "VA vehicle safety inspection" you'll find a list of what's suppose to be inspected.) When I emailed their General Manager, he replied with 1. their Honda certified mechanics inspected the vehicle and 2. you bought the car as is. The attached photo shows what what fixed and what still needs to be fixed (brakes, spark plugs, air filter, air intake hose, bushings, etc.) Do not take your vehicle there for safety inspections and do not purchase a used vehicle from them. read more

I went online, researched the car I wanted and sent an online request for info. I got a quick reply and made an appointment to come in and see it. When I got there, oddly enough the car wasnt there... they couldnt find the keys and realized they gave my car to someone accidently the day before because they got the same car with different miles. They asked me to wait while they tried to get it back... and were going to let me leave until a guy suggested I look at another car, same color, same everything with less miles than the one I wanted but cost a lil more. Long story short, hours later, I bought that car.. a honda accord. I love it. Although there was a rocky start, it ended well. The only thing that was off was that there was a stain on my seat that they didnt try to get out and the interior of the car wasnt cleaned as it should have been. I brought it to their attention and they asked me to come back the next day.. I did.. but they didnt get the stain out. I was very upset and they referred me to The Interrior Guys to get it out. 3 days later they did. As far as the car buying experience, overall it was good. The clean up guys just need to do better. No one buying a used car should see evidence of a previous owners mess in it. read more

A review of their parts and service. I have a 2 year old Honda I'd bought from them. When I'd picked it up, there was an obvious scratch on the bottom of the door and I was told they'd get it fixed while I waited. And did I wait. We were left at a desk, not even shown the waiting area which at least had coffee and water (first time there, we did not know it existed), for almost TWO hours. No apologies. Nothing. Just here's your keys, go. First oil change, went back to try their service and also got the tires rotated. That was fine. Needed another oil change, inspection and tire rotation and this time was horrendous. The service rep tried to talk me into upgrading my oil to a full synthetic for another $10 - because what I was getting might not be all synthetic. Apparently because I'm female I know nothing about oil. No buddy, this grade IS synthetic and it IS the $10 upgrade already. So they take my car and come back midway to tell me I desperately NEED a new cabin filter at $65 and I should have a tire alignment at $84 (because you need an alignment every 12,000 miles or 12 months. I can't imagine HOW the alignment could be off just because 12 months had passed.) No thanks. I do my own cabin filter at $8 for the filter and 5 minutes of my time and I truly do not see a need to have an alignment. I checked the filter when I got home. A few bits of leaf debris that I shook out then replaced the filter, The new one I bought a couple of months ago is still sitting on my shelf waiting for when the filter actually needs to be replaced. About one month later I get a letter reminding me about the critical filter replacement and the alignment. No thanks, I'm going back to my old mechanic who has never tried to scam me. read more

Absolutely the worst Honda dealership in the Richmond area! There is nothing good to be said about this dealership. I remember my parents and I came to this dealership back in June of 2008 trying to get a new Honda Accord. We were able to test drive a couple of Accords. When we were at the table negotiating, we would try to get a great deal with our salesman. We went back and forth for a bit. Since we felt that we could get a better deal elsewhere, we just kept denying what our salesman had to offer. We decided that it was time to go to another dealership. Our salesman was really rude to us. As a salesman, you should be respectful to your customers at all times. We could tell that this guy was really irritated that we wouldn't accept his offer, but like I said earlier, we just felt that we could get a better deal elsewhere. He was so irritated that he didn't shake our hands at all or even thank us for stopping by. On top of that, he didn't even escort us out of the building. At the negotiating table, he was the first one that got up and left before us and didn't say a word to us at all after leaving the table. So disrespectful! I will never forget that moment. I know there are other respectful staff members at this dealership, but one bad experience is all that it takes for me to never return to this place. And judging by the previous reviews of Colonial Honda, other people feel the same way about the lack of professionalism here. Yes, selling cars is a tough job, no doubt about it! But just because a customer doesn't accept your offer, doesn't mean that you have the right to disrespect them at all. We all felt insulted after what had happened. This place is a rip off! Got a price at the Honda dealership at our house to repair a power steering leak-which was to replace a leaking hose for $200 parts and $125 labor. Was going to be in Colonial Heights for the week and thought we would get the work done here while we were in town, took it over to Colonial Height Honda, they wanted $600 to replace the same hose but also said the pump was bad, the rack and pinion was bad and wanted $2600 for repairs. We took it back to the original Honda place (Johnson City Honda) and got it fixed for $325. No leaks, runs fine, all good! Watch out for these guys! read more
