After posting my reviews, I received a phone call from one of the trainers apologizing for not responding to my inquiry. She was very kind and explained a mix up regarding emails with the owner. No big deal; these things happen. I appreciated her apology. She did inform me that they do not train in the kind of scent work I am looking for, and she sadly doesn't know anyone near my location who does. My only suggestion would be for the owner, since they are the ones who receive the emails. It might be best to respond to the customer in an email and state something to the effect of, "Colonial K9 has received your request and we will be forwarding your message to the respective trainer. Please let us know if a trainer has not gotten in contact with you in the next 48/72 hours." This way the customer knows their email has been seen and read. Otherwise, the customer feels their request wasn't taken seriously. Additionally, a reminder message or task could be created within the Microsoft 360 platform and be sent to the trainers. Just some ideas to help the customers and trainer so a customer isn't lost due to mistakes. Thank you again for the apology. It is appreciated. I have bumped my review up from two stars to fours stars. **Original Review** ***I have not used their services***This is only a review based on communication, or lack thereof*** On 08MAY2024, I called Colonial K9 to inquire about dog training; specifically scent work. I have been looking for a solid trainer since moving here. It has not been easy finding a reputable trainer. During the phone call, I was told to send an email because emails go straight to the owner. The owner will review the email and either respond personally, or the owner will send the email to the respective trainer. I thanked the person who I spoke with and promptly sent an email detailing my dog training needs. By 15MAY2024, I still hadn't received a response from Colonial K9. As a result, I sent another email and stated; "I am following up from my attached email as I have not received a response. If you are unable to help us, it's understandable. I would appreciate it if you could give us a referral on a trainer who can help." As of today, 24MAY2024, I have yet to receive a response. I am not sure where the disconnect is. All I want to do is find a solid trainer to continue with scent work training. I guess Colonial K9 isn't interested in assisting. Copy that! read more

We boarded our dogs for 6 days and we are extremely UNHAPPY in the condition we got our dogs back in. Our poor Henny came back sick, throwing up food and blood which is crazy...we dropped her off healthy and feeling good. They both received a full check up the day prior to drop off and the vet said they were both good, so we KNOW they had no issues going in. Her energy is completely off. Additionally, we requested baths for both of our dogs which we did not receive, this was requested at drop off. Both our dogs are significantly dirtier. It appears our dogs were not fed. We've boarded our dogs before and have never head a cause of concern. Sure we could have check in, I don't disagree but with a history of not having issues and the good reviews we read. We trusted the following establishment. If there was an issue, it should have been brought to our attention, my husband's number was listed on file as requested AND during pick-up, we could have been informed that something was wrong. I rarely leave reviews but I'm extremely unhappy with the condition of my dogs. read more

We needed to board our three dogs but only gave a weeks notice. The staff at Colonial K-9 were exceptionally patient when I needed to get my dogs shot records to them literally an hour before our scheduled boarding. Once my husband arrived, Beth was absolutely amazing!!! She gave him a quick tour and helped to get all three dogs settled into their kennel. I was super happy that they were all kept together because they all suffer from separation anxiety. When we picked them up, Beth was there manning the front desk. She was super helpful and patient (our dogs are kind of obnoxious). She even helped us to get their leashes and collars attached then walked them out to our truck. This is by far the cleanest and most well organized kennel we've ever used. We give Colonial K-9 two enthusiastic thumbs up and a strong five star rating. We will definitely use this kennel in the future. read more

They took my dog in when I had no reservation because when I went to the place I had a reservation at they did not say that I had one I'm going into the hospital for up to 30 days the wounded warrior program is taking care of me at least they are trying to the canine Continental took my dog in when there was no place to put him they are the only reason I will sleep Tonight I'm not sure who the girl is at the desk I hugged her and thank her. You will never find a better place to take care of your dog and my dog is everything I have. I'm leaving 2 stars because my dogs were still alive when I picked them up. Story: in late May, 2021 my husband and I toured the facility, and decided this would be an okay "plan-B" for boarding our dogs during a week of vacation. Before the end of May, we got the vet to send over shot records, and even got a call from Colonial saying they received them, and at that time my husband had an extensive conversation with Colonial, and booked them for our trip. Day before we leave, we arrive at Colonial to board the dogs. First, they have no shot records, look for them for 20 minutes, and finally call my vet, who says, why are you calling, we sent them to you weeks ago. They re-send the records. We booked 2 runs next to each other (during that extensive conversation the previous month), but when I get there to drop my 3 dogs off, all of the big dog runs are full but one. So one dog had to go into the other building with the small dogs. We have no choice but to leave them there. Fast forward to the drive back from vacation when we get a call the day BEFORE we were scheduled to pick our dogs up and we get a call from Colonial saying, "Are you going to pick these dogs up?" Like they were just some stray dogs they picked up off the street. When we tell them we aren't scheduled for pick up until the following day. All we got from them was "oh". I was left feeling like the dogs are just money to them, and no real care goes into what they do. We complained about all of this to the "assistant manager" when we picked up our gang, and again, we got "oh, sorry". Turns out she was the one who called us the previous day. Swell. More lack of compassion. I will not be back, and I hope to warn others to not leave their fur babies with these folks. read more

We use to board our dogs at the vet's office. One time they were full and they recommended Colonial K9...2 years later and we are still boarding our dogs here! We love the staff and know that our dogs are well taken care of. I no longer feel guilty of leaving the dogs locked up in a small crate all day at the vets office. Our dogs are able to share a kennel, which was important for us because 1) our dogs are rescues and we didn't want them to feel like they were being left behind again and 2) because they are a bonded pair with separation anxiety; they also get plenty of playtime in the fenced in yard. We adopted a medium size mixed breed who was afraid of dogs her size and larger. We knew she needed to be socialized so we searched for a doggie daycare to help. I also knew she was going to need obedience training so a place that offered both and was teasingly priced was top priority. I looked at several places and felt most comfortable with Colonial K9 and their staff. I can't speak to others experience but so far we are VERY happy with our choice. Our fur baby is great around other dogs of all sizes now and her training is going well. Athena is always so ready to go to daycare and loves the staff. She's always excited to see them. We have been going to Colonial K-9 for the past two years after a friend recommended them to us and have always been pleased with the service and facilities. We don't have any experience with their training services, but we always use them when we need to kennel our two dogs. The kennels are clean, the staff are friendly, and our dogs are always excited to go there. Unlike kennels in other places we've lived, we've never had an issue with the dogs getting kennel cough or coming home with any other issues. Overall, we highly recommend them and we always feel good leaving our dogs with them. read more

Everyone at Colonial was wonderful with our two crazy dogs! We used them for an extended stay while we were getting ready to move into our new home. They called right away when it looked like our Great Dane wasn't eating much so we could add some wet food topper to get him back to eating. Both dogs appeared happy and healthy when we picked them up after 20 days! Will definitely be using Colonial again when we go on vacation. read more

My Goldendoodle puppy is WILD. But, thanks to Colonial K9, our dog is showing noticeably better control on the leash after doing a week of training here. I brought my one year old Golden Retriever here from June 24 - June 27. My dog has never been to a kennel. When I booked my appointment over the phone, I explained that I wanted my dog to attend doggie day care during her stay. I also made it clear that my dog was very nervous when first meeting people and other dogs, but once she warmed up, she loved being around others. I explained this over the phone and was told it wasn't a problem. On the day I dropped my dog off, she was scared and would not leave my side. I spoke with Daniel who reassured me that my dog would do a trial to see how she would do with doggie day care since she seemed so nervous. I explained that I wanted her to have playtime during the day. He reassured me that she would do the trial and if there were any problems, he would call me. However, when I picked up my dog on June 27th, I asked the woman behind the counter how my dog did with daycare and assumed she loved it since I didn't get a phone call. The woman at the counter informed me that my dog seemed scared so they didn't bother doing a trial with her to see if she liked the daycare. The woman then tells me that my dog wasn't too scared because she ate her food with no problem. Ummm, ok. So she wasn't that scared, but no one wanted to take the time to see if she would like daycare. When I went to get my dog, she had her head down, tail between her legs and would not acknowledge me. The entire car ride home she kept her head down and would not look at me. It broke my heart. I called and spoke to the assistant manager about my concerns today and all she could say was, "Sorry, next time we will make sure your dog gets a trial for the daycare." This place seems to only care about filling their kennels with dogs for the money and just leaving them there. Don't bring your dog here if you are expecting them to get the love and attention they deserve. read more

We left our puppy here over Christmas break! Needless to say we will be leaving him here again. This place was very clean and each dog had plenty of room. The price was around 240 before the military discount. The staff was very friendly and helpful. He came home super tired and seemed to have had a good time! read more

I brought my dog here for Good Canine Citizen training. I didn't think my dog would pass the training but thanks all our efforts (trainer and my family), she passed. Colonial K-9 came recommended to me, however after our recent experience I'm not sure I would refer anybody. Although the facility was very clean I was a disheartened when I went to pick my dog up after the weekend. The person working behind the counter was out front, on his phone walking one of the dogs. While I waited in the office I saw my dog in the fenced are in the back without any water. Since it was a very hot day (82' when I was driving away) that's obviously problematic. Also, her bed smelled like she probably had an accident on it (not the norm). They couldn't find her collar, it had been left in the grooming area. Lastly, when I went pay the person working failed to tell me that they would be charging me a surcharge fee for using a VISA card to pay (I would have paid cash, or at least it would have been nice/professional to let me know first). He also told me that it was normal to put two German Shepherds in one run, and that all of them were the same size. I find that hard to believe, but I suppose I could be wrong. I certainly wouldn't want to put two large dogs together in that size run. In any case, all these small things add up to an impression they left on me that wasn't great. While we do not have plans to return to Colonial K-9, I hope this review highlights some of the areas that may need to be addressed... read more

I would HIGHLY recommend Colonial K-9 to anyone that is looking to have their dog trained, boarded or simply to socialize with other dogs. My husband and I have been using Colonial K-9 for about 3 years now. We first started using the doggy day care for our Staffordshire terrier Mojo and he absolutely loves it! He gets to play with other dogs while we are at work. We also signed him up for the 6 week obedience class with Theresa (the owner) and could not have been happier with the end result! Not only did he learn a variety of commands and better manners, but at the end of the 6 weeks, on the day of pick up, Theresa taught us all as a family how to apply what was taught to Mojo. He was like a new dog! We have a 6 month old daughter and were a bit concerned as to how this was going to work, having a new baby with a less than one year old dog but sending our fur baby to this course was the best thing we could have done and worth EVERY penny! Theresa and her staff are always super friendly and you can just tell that they all love animals ( and Mojo loves them as well). Thank you Colonial K-9!! read more

I have been a customer of colonial for about 5 years now. I have brought both of my pups for training, boarding, daycare and also grooming from time to time. I have one pup that has a hard time being left for boarding and I trust colonial to make him feel at home. He is a rescue so he has a hard time trusting people but with some one on one training at colonial and daycare time to time he has come such a long way! I would recommend colonial k9 for whatever your dogs needs are.. the facility is very cleanly and staff friendly :) read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I had the worst experience with this business. I was already nervous about putting my VERY small dog in daycare, but this made it so much worse. Even though they advertise constant supervision and interaction, that is a complete lie. Both times that I visited the office, the person supervising the daycare either wasn't there at all or left. That sent up some red flags. Dropping off my puppy, I felt pretty uncomfortable. There was pee and poo just sitting in the play area and looked hardened like it'd been there for a while. When I arrived to pick up my puppy there was no one in the daycare room and the employee actually rushed in after me like he knew he wasn't doing what he was supposed to. My dog hadn't even eaten and didn't seem like himself. I was told we would get a report card of his day and instead the employee didn't even really seem to know what my dog did throughout the day. They do not provide a stimulating environment like they claim and if anything I urge people to stay away from this place! I will never go back there. read more

Very disappointed with the service that was provided. It was our first boarding experience with our 2-year old dog over the holidays so we were initially pretty nervous about leaving him. When we called Colonial K-9, we were assured he'd get plenty of outside time and be taken out for frequent bathroom breaks, none of which happened. After a 48 hour stay, we arrived to find him caked in dirt, smelly and trapped in a cage with his own feces (which had obviously been there for a long time). His bed that we dropped off with him had urine on it (he's never had an accident on any kind of bedding or furniture) and it was apparent that he had be neglected. It was 12:00 in the afternoon and he hadn't been taken out since the previous day. What was even more maddening is that he wasn't given a kennel because they were at capacity when we made our reservation so since he's a small dog (8 lbs.) they said they'd keep him in the main office area with the workers - which made us feel like he'd get even more personal attention. The staff member sitting at the front desk was only a few feet away from him, so they couldn't argue that they hadn't gotten to him yet. We trusted these people with our dog who is like a child and were appalled at the condition he was in. We will NEVER go back and encourage others to take their business elsewhere. read more
