This is what I posted on the Meineke site. I'm sorry there wasn't less than one star. I brought my car, a Saturn 2008, into Meineke in January 2023 for front brakes. I was on vacation for eight weeks after and wasn't able to drive my car. This May I noticed some shaking, when I applied pressure to my brakes, on my steering wheel. I just brought my car in to Meineke, yesterday, on the 17th. I was told that I would need over $5000 worth of repairs. I was told that it was not the front brakes, but the rear brakes, suspension bars, etc. I was told that I could get it fixed and everything would be fine or I could sell it to Carvana and use Carvana to purchase a new vehicle and get their premium extended warranty. With their extended warranty, I could always bring it back to Meineke and it would be serviced at no charge. Note- he did not charge me for looking at my vehicle or his recommendation... Today, I went to Colonial in Mundelein. I spoke with Miguel. I told him that I wanted my car, a Saturn 2008, checked out. (I did not tell him that I was at Meineke yesterday or what they had suggested.) I told him that the front wheel would shake when I applied pressure to the brakes. He told me, right away, that it was my front brakes that would need to be replaced. He said when the wheel shakes, when you apply pressure, it is always the front brakes. I told him that I had had them replaced in January 2023. I also told him that I did not drive it for 12 weeks after that. He spoke of the importance of driving your car after you get new brakes. If it sits for a while, they can collect rust. He said he would do a routine safety check and check the brakes. I told him it probably needed rear brakes. Here's the great part of what Miguel, at Colonial, told me. He said it was not worth repairing my vehicle. He said it was the front brakes and that it would be an inconvenience to drive it, with the wheel shaking when I break, but that it would be fine. He had said that the bottom of the Saturn is rusted out and he would not recommend fixing anything on it. I did tell him what Meineke had told me and I told Miguel how appreciative I was that he was honest and did not try to sell, or talk me into something, that I did not need. Went in for new brakes. The inspection was thorough and they didn't try to upsell me at all. Shot me straight with the diagnostics and let me know that only 2/4 brake pads were shot when they could've easily told me it was all 4. They also did test the brakes in the lot and found that there was one faulty pad, so I appreciated that level of thoroughness and safety. Wait time was about an hour longer than I'd been quoted, and took about 2.5 hrs on a Saturday morning. This is the reason for the star off. Waiting room is no frills. read more

I would like to share the conclusion of the prior poor review. We brought he truck to another shop and told them that we needed the fan motor that Colonial installed needed to be removed. The truck was done in 2 hours. The fan motor that colonial installed was returned to us and they said 'when you use the right part it works fine'. Bottom line, they installed the wrong fan blower. We returned it and received full credit. Oh and the other repair shop charged us over $100 LESS. We will never go back. read more

The rubber boot to my car's CV axle was damaged. I got a quote of OVER $1000 from another auto shop, which to my knowledge now was way too overpriced. Luckily I found Colonial Tire, who was able to take my car in and fix it for almost half of the price! Such an incredible team. I like that they have a text-able number where I was able to send them pictures of my car's diagnosis. Miguel who worked on my car kept clear communications with me throughout the process and made sure I was aware of the cost and expected completion time. Went for an oil change on 11/17/19. They did a terrible job!! Spilled oil all over my engine, messed up one of the engine plugs, did not add enough oil (probably because they spilled most of it). I had to replace the plug at the dealer later and change my oil again at a different place. Also, they did not put my under cover back together after changing oil, it is missing bolts, it is ripped now. Will never come back again. Disappointed. read more

The service here was very good I was able to get 4 new tires installed with in 45 min. They were able to get my tires within 24 hrs. The price point for the tires were about the same everywhere...however did I mention that the service was better...and they didn't try and up sale me on extra services or hidden fees...the price I was quoted was the price I paid...I really don't have anything negative to say ... my experience was a good one overall read more

They did a fine job with the car. But when the state's COVID-19 cases are increasingly exponentially, it is extremely irresponsible of them to not enforce masks inside their business. There is a sign posted at the door yet they did nothing when multiple people entered without one. I am immune suppressed so I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Colonial Tire saved the day! After noticing on my way out that I had two flat tires due to the extreme cold I needed help and fast. After AAA came to inflate my tires I drove down to Colonial Tire, which I found on Yelp. I arrived 3 minutes before they take the last customer and Evan, the sales manager, got me right in. It was a simple fix on their part to clean up the tire seals and I was back on my way within 15 mins. What a difference - I felt like I was driving on a cloud. They don't take appointments - only first come, first served and they guarantee their work for 30 days. They also do general maintenance and repairs - not just tires. Evan was helpful, friendly and understood the type of crazy day I was having. Only thing I would change is to get some new chairs in the waiting area. They looked like they had been there since the 70s but they did have a nice TV. All and all an amazing experience for a tire shop! Look for the big Goodyear sign across from the CVS - that's them. read more

Well first off the gentleman who answered was very nice . He told me to get my daughters car checked out would be around 40.00 it would go to service if she needed it. He called a bit later and found nothing wrong . He said he wasn't going to charge us for the quick check. You don't find many companies that are kind, honest , and will give you a break anymore. Colonial Tire is not closed! Miguel, Pete & staff...they are honest which makes them the best. Great work at a great price. 50% of my repair estimates have resulted in negligible cost due to easy fixes. However, not every shop is so honest to let you know when you could keep your cost down and how. I can't recommend them enough. I wanted a second opinion because the first place I brought the car to (mundelein automotive) was saying I needed some really costly repairs. So I went to Colonial Tire (aka goodyear) and they said the car didn't need a bunch of expensive repairs and the prices they charged me for the repairs it did need were way less than mundelein automotive wanted to charge me. Since then I've been coming to Colonial Tire and they are always inexpensive and have great service all around. I would definitely recommend them to my friends and neighbors. read more

I used to live in Mundelein a year ago and would always take my car here. I have taken my car to a lot of places and this is the only place I feel that isn't ripping me off. There have been many times when I have brought my cars in they have told me that there is actually nothing wrong and not charged me anything. Their prices are reasonable and they do a good job. Sometimes they get really busy but I always call ahead am make sure they can take me that day. I live 45 minutes away now but I still take my cars up here.
