This past weekend 8/10/2024, I decided to try a new stylist here in Houston, Keihla Samone at Color Du Jour. I researched her IG page @the.prostylist and from what was shown, she did good work. I arrived at the shop at my scheduled appointment time which was 1:00pm where I checked in and the receptionist advised Keihla would be with me shortly. Another young lady arrived shortly after me and took a seat in the waiting area. The stylist walks in the building at 1:10pm with no acknowledgment, introduction or anything. She brings the other woman to the back and then sends me a text asking if I'm here. I reply yes and she stated that she would shampoo the woman first and then get to me. Keihla comes back to the waiting area at 1:30pm to escort me to the shampoo bowl. She's finally shampooing my hair or taking out some aggression because she was tearing my head up and I'm FAR from tender headed. She's literally yanking and pulling my hair with the detangler brush and then proceeds to tell me "do you know your hair is shedding?" In reality my hair was not shedding, she was literally pulling out my hair with the brush and I knew this because my scalp was tender after she finished and I told her this. Next, we go to her chair where she starts to blow dry my hair. She's literally beating me in the head with the brush and I stopped her to tell her she was doing so, her reply? "Oh." The cherry on top, she asks if I want a trim or curls. I say curls..... why did I hear a snip?! She cut my hair and then had the audacity to say that I said it low so she didn't hear me!! We had a discussion after this as I asked if you could have a conversation with her. She replied yes and I said, "this can't be personal because you don't know me and I don't know you. I let her know everything that I explained in this review. I explained I'm not the type to leave reviews as I prefer to have conversations with said person and hopefully come to some common ground but here we are because nothing was done to accommodate my time, money nor feelings. Every grievance I made Keihla aware of she had a rebuttal against and made it seem as if it were my fault. I explained her tardiness, as HER policy clearly states that "if YOU are more than 20 minutes late, then your appointment will automatically be marked as a no-show and the full appointment charge will apply." Keep that sentence in mind. Keihla tells me, "you still finished on time." My question is, if you would have started on time, would I have finished early?! I honestly believe the service was rushed because she was running 30mins behind schedule. Or could I have shown up at 1:30pm and you still accept my appointment? The answer, absolutely not!!! Because in this situation her time is money and her time is valuable not mine! I tell her about cutting my hair when I specifically said I only wanted a curl and I also booked the service that did NOT include a trim so clearly I was not looking to have my hair cut at that time as I had just recently received a trim 3 weeks prior to booking with Keilha. She responds "you do need a trim and you were really low when you answered." Babygirl if you were unsure then ask again!! There was no apology... I stand corrected, Keihla claims she apologized and my response to her was "well you were really low!" She also tells me "yea I could feel your energy." I wish I could make all this up!!! There was no accountability, no offer to make my FIRST (and last) experience a little bit better, no remorse. Her only question/concern was "how would you like to pay, do you have Zelle?" As a paying customer, I feel as though my time, money and emotions were not valued nor respected. An apology or a kind gesture to make amends for the horrible experience goes a long way and it simply lacked in this instance along with her service. This is in no way a negative review on Color Du Jour as it is my understanding that the stylist is an independent contractor. read more

I booked make-up artist, Noe Flores, for a glam look nearly a month in advance through his preferred booking app, Styleseat. The night before my scheduled appointment, Noe text me and said he'd be cancelling my appointment through the app because they were going to take a large portion of the payment (I now realize he did this because he had no intentions on showing up and he did not want a negative review on his profile). He verified my appointment was still confirmed and that he'd see me at the studio the following morning. I arrived 5 minutes before my 10 a.m. appointment and around 10:06, he text saying his ETA was 10:16. At 10:53, fifty-three minutes after my scheduled appointment, Noe had still not arrived, nor did he communicate anything about his excessive tardiness. I text him saying I was leaving and requested my refund for the $50 deposit I made - I still have not received those funds. Noe did not offer an apology, nor an explanation as to why he never showed up. When I asked for a recommendation for another artist (my baby shower was scheduled for a few hours later), he ignored my text. His behavior is unprofessional, unacceptable and future clients should be warned. It is clear Ms. Flores lacks professional integrity and shows absolutely no consideration to those who hire him for his services. Instead he chose to leave an 8-month pregnant woman with no options on the day of her baby shower. read more

Having a reason to get all glammed up is always uber exciting, at least for me it is. It merely justifies why it is absolutely necessary to get my face "beat" for the cause and furthermore, gives me a valid excuse to get my make-up done by a professional- Yaaassss! This was my recent reality, which was all the excuse I needed to finally book an appointment at Color Du Jour Make-Up Studio. Prior to booking my appointment, I was already a fan of Color Du Jour as I had been following the owner, Alaina on Instagram for a while and loved her work. I recently made the decision to get some professional business head shots taken and for that reason, decided to get my make-up done. Of course it was a no-brainer when deciding on an artist, so I submitted an inquiry online via CDJ's website to see if Alaina was available for the date and time I was requesting. I received a response the same day from the studio assistant who informed me that she was available and I could secure the appointment time by placing a $30.00 deposit within 24 hours on the website. I went ahead and booked the appointment with the deposit, which was easy breezy and from there it was a done deal. I was locked in. When I arrived inside the studio the morning of my appointment, I was very impressed. I'm all about a great ambience and let me tell you- this make-up studio is ever-ry-thing! Very upscale, very chic, juuuuust, the bomb! The studio assistant was very welcoming and made me feel right at home when I arrived, so that was a plus. When I finally met Alaina, she was an absolute sweetheart! Very friendly and down-to-earth throughout the whole session. She is who I requested for my appointment, however they do have other make-up artists that work here as well, FYI. Before Alaina got started, she asked what was the occasion and I informed her that I would be taking some professional business head shots and wanted the natural application. The natural application (which is $80) includes light brow sculpting, lashes, 1-2 eye shadow colors,and a light highlight and contour. She made sure to get my opinion on how natural I wanted to look and offered up a few options for me to consider. Alaina is clearly a pro at what she does, as she took her time to ensure that everything she applied was done to perfection. That being said, the make-up application process took about an hour. Once she got done, she took some pictures of the end result, as she had done a before picture as well to post on her snap chat. Listen here. My face was beat for the GODS honey, and I couldn't have been more satisfied! My make-up was FLAW. LESS!!! Later that afternoon, I went to my photo session and my head shots came out perfect! Over the past year I have called and spoken with several people at Alaina's Studio concerning booking her for my wedding. Standard policy, Alina can only book 9mths in advance for a full day. I called the studio on May 29 and talked with the young lady that answered the phone, she explained I could do an inquiry online or she could put a hold on the date. I asked what's the difference and she explained a hold on the date allows the studio to call me if anyone else inquires about the the same date allowing me first opportunity to pay my deposit and secure the date. I replied this is awesome, let's do it. On yesterday June 10, 2019 I called Alina's studio to pay my deposit and the young lady asked for my information, I gave her my name, told her she could search by my date, I already have a hold on the day. She tells me yes I can see it on the calendar however...my heart sinks hearing the word HOWEVER. She continues this date has already been reserved and is no longer available. I explained I have a hold on this date, I was told I'd receive a call should anyone inquire, how did this happen? This is a very special day for me and I've been waiting an entire year!!! If I'd known this would happen, I would have reserved on my last call back on 5/29/19 when he day was still available. I asked to speak with someone and the young lady explained Alina's husband is out of the office, Alina is out of the office. I can take a message and have Alina's husband (whom I've also spoken with in the past and has answered questions for me) call you back. I gave the young lady my phone number and asked how long will it take to receive a call back, she replied I don't know. I'm very disappointed in the process I was told would work! It failed me and I can't explain the amount of hurt felt by not receiving a phone call for the date I reserved on hold so I could book with Alina. I'm not sure if I will receive a phone call or what can be done now that Alina has another contract for my wedding date. I've waited a whole year with excitement only to end with great disappointment. I now have to start all over in search of another makeup artist. I'm so very hurt by this experience , I tried calling back twice and was sent to voicemail. She had to abruptly find another artist at a different salon to do her makeup on extremely short notice. This is extremely unprofessional, but especially on a BRIDE'S wedding day. Do not book Noe! I came to this studio recently for the first time and had my hair done by the stylist Whitney. The studio is very nice, relaxing, and upscale. The ambience is amazing! I was welcomed by the owner as soon as I walked in and all the staff I came in contact with, were very friendly. Whitney is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and has her client's best interest at heart (not just out to get your money like some stylist). She gave me tips and suggestions in regards to getting and keeping my hair healthy, as well as an action plan for future visits to ensure the health of my hair (which is natural). I contacted Color Du JourI was referred to Meagan and I couldn't be happier! My makeup was FLAWLESS throughout and she made sure that each of my bridesmaids looked amazing as well. I used her for my engagement photos and my makeup was FLAWLESS and lasted the entire afternoon and evening and so beautiful I didn't want to remove it lol :).
