Jay squeezed me in even though he didn't have availability because I was having a shitty week. I needed to cut off damaged tips and redo my color from scratch. My hair is both fine and thin, and I have a weirdly shaped head, and he gave me such a wonderful cut that is exactly what I wanted. The bleaching process could have been shorter with stronger bleach, but Jay didn't want to damage my fine hair, so he took his time with a softer bleach that takes longer, which I appreciated. He could've closed up shop much earlier, but he stuck it out with me from 2:30-8 pm! He was so patient and such an artist. 5.5 hours, 3 shades of blue, 1 purple, and 1 magenta later, this gorgeous multi-dimensional blue is what I got. He literally is the best stylist I've found. I've had my hair colored by an array of people, including my long time favorite go to stylist in Manhattan that I've been going to for 15 years, and Jay's skills put them to shame. Jay's scheduling system was easy, when I told him what I wanted, he asked questions to ensure he fully understood, and he was patient and meticulous during the coloring process. I've had an ombré in my hair for about 4 years, always having it retouched, but my last couple stylists were not great at blending it with my natural color. Just move to Houston and I was very afraid not to be able to find a good place to get my hair done. The bridals suite recommended Jay. He did a great job in my hair specially He used products that didn't damage my hair. At the beginning when I got back home I thought I was too blond and text him back and he took me the next day to make me less blond, then when I left his studio I realize I liked the first color he did ( I know I know). I got a haircut by Jay aka Jose Ruelas on 8 July 2019. It was one of the worst haircuts I've ever received. And I've patronized numerous salons over the years. The cut was inconsistent , had uneven layers and was rushed. Jay was also dealing with a colorist and that client and his shop assistant, so he was not paying close enough attention to my cut. I'll not return. And Yelp, deleted my previous review which was 100% TRUE and ACCURATE ; supposedly due to their subjective "policies" . People have said Yelp defers to the business owner and doesn't allow reviews the business owner doesn't like or challenges. If that's the case, what's the point of this supposed unbiased customer DRIVEN service? Save your time , energy,effort and $$$ and go somewhere else. I was scared at first because its a new place, he didn't seem like he was sure about cutting short hair, buuuut. Jay took his time and did an amazing job. It stuck same hair cut i normally get. But better. The hair compliments my head shape and he took his time to be cautious and work with it until it was to my liking. Very honest he let me know from the beginning that there are no guarantees to get the color that I wanted because my hair is colored in a dark color he told me that it all depends on how much my hair is gonna lift and I'm glad I took the risk my highlights look awesome so thin and just beautiful 2. Cares a lot about the health of the hair it's his number one priority he told me that he rather I leave with hair than no hair he explained to me that with the texture of my hair (ethnic hair) I have to be extra careful 3. He listens to what you want and then suggest the color that's gonna go with your skin tone (I have being looking for someone to tell me what color would look good on me forever but they only ask me to tell them what i want and then do it they don't really care if it goes well with me or not) 4. Yesterday I had my first experience at the Manetame salon with Mr. Jay! Mr. Jay gave me the most thorough Brazillian Blowout I have ever received. Yes, it took about 3 hours for my long hair to be beautified, but the results are life changing. Overall that sounds dramatic, but if you have hair that tends to frizz in humidity like me- Brazillian Blowouts are the solution. I came to Jay for a color touch up. I usually get my hair done in San Diego and realized it would be a while before I'd be going back and was in desperate need of touch up on my balayage and roots. It was my first time here and I will definitely be coming back. Not only did he do a fantastic job, but he did so over another person's previous work and blended the colors perfectly. He achieved exactly what I described as wanting. The salon itself is clean and nice. I didn't have time to stop and get coffee the morning of my appt. Without me asking or saying anything, Jay offered to go to Starbucks and get me a coffee while my color was processing! I've never had that level of service or attentiveness at any salon before. Well above the call of duty and extremely thoughtful. The pricing for his services is extremely fair, in my opinion. I have visited The Upper Hand on Westheimer and found some of the pricing there to be a little much. Not here. Jay is an expert and is detail oriented.
