I am, too. ;) Room 19 on 4/19, Patriots' Day. Ortensio as the male version of Ortensia, the hyacinth flower name from the Humane Colorado woman who is from Barcelona. Ortensia orchestrated my having first visit with Maxx. The couple who signed in before me as I was negotiating finding a shoe substitute (it took me awhile) kindly said "He's yours." How right they were. How right was Ortensia. And Miso for the soup I was to deliver but the friend was too sick so I went to the Humane Society instead. Six year old Maxx entered the room. After 5 days of yapping at visitors he quietly sat at my feet for a bit ....and then jumped into my arms and fell asleep as I patted him. With a calm reserve. Welcome home, Maxx! Their dogs are healthy, and were abandoned by previous owners, meaning they might take longer to bond to you than other dogs, but they wound up really sweet. The dogs are average price, and they have a very neat doggo area, with a big area where they take the dogs and pop them in there with you to see if they might like you.

We drove there and after we were bounced around to multiple people - found out that he wasn't there. They also didn't know when/if he'd be there that day. We were really upset, as we really got our hopes up. A few hours later he did make it to the shelter, and we have such a fun, loving, kitten. The staff is incredibly thorough, but also please also be advised you will probably be there **2 HOURS** if you whole heartedly plan to seriously adopt a new family member. I've seen a lot of complaints that this shelter is short staffed, but keep in mind, many of these people are volunteers trying to help re-home animals to caring, loving owners. The wait was so worth it. We adopted our newest family member, a deaf stray, who is incredibly well behaved. The staff gave us every last detail on his health, behavior, and known history. The handlers were incredibly thoughtful when introducing us to our new pet. They also include several vaccinations, surgery, and a microchip in the adoption fees. They send you home with a list of vets that give you your first check up free (though keep in mind we still needed to add some services such as heart worm). I love Denver Animal shelter and appreciate everything they do!

Amazing Rescue! What a fantastic organization. We submitted…read moreour application and were quickly contacted by GRFR for a phone interview, which was followed up by a home visit 2 days later. Lucky us! We met and fell in love with our beautiful boy and now enjoy puppy antics daily. It is disheartening to read the negative reviews as they are completely opposite of our experience.. we were in daily contact with GRFR volunteers to make certain that the process went smoothly. They have also reached out several times to check in and make sure all was going well. We will adopt again from them as soon as our amazing puppy matures a bit. 9 months ago I adopted my Golden- a 3 1/2 year old breeder mom from a puppy mill. She was a girl in…read moredistress. She was ill when we got her - Giardia and severe ear mites. No decent vet exam. We were pushed to spay her after having her less than 48 hours- by her foster who brought her over to our house and dragged her up and down stairs that she had never been on in her life. She is doing great now. But I have no kind words for the bully Nicole who fostered her. Our vet - when she examined her - was shocked by her condition. I am positive that others in the organization have negative feelings about Nicole but to my knowledge she is still active. Puppy mill dogs are very damaged and need enormous amounts of love and patience. Be careful who you adopt from.

Dear MAMR, On May of…read more2018, I adopted a little puppy named (at the time) Chi Chi Cher from the Moms and Mutts Rescue in Denver, CO. She was only 11 weeks old and full of excitement and life as most puppies are. MAMR did an outstanding job fostering her before I brought her home to be with my husband and I. We have no children. I renamed her, "Annie Oakley" as she was loaded with high energy and always packed a big hug to everyone. She was put through extensive training to become a "Service Dog" for my husband, as he had a massive heart attack and stroke. "Annie" changed our lives for the better, as she loved unconditionally and gave 100 percent of her love to us and many others. I would periodically take her with me to Wal-Mart to keep her maintenance up. She would have made a great greater at Church, as it was instilled in her to go up and love on everyone she saw, especially those in the military. When given a "Q", after meeting someone in service at W-Mart, she would sit and then give the sweetest "salute" over and over again, to thank them for serving. It made their day. There were several times, people would gather around and take video of her saluting and find out later it was on facebook or twitter. Today, "Annie" turns "8" year old and we hope and pray she will be with us for many more years to brighten everyones day with her loving attitude and unconditional love towards everyone.
