I am a retired 65‑year‑old single man, a cancer survivor, and the sole caregiver for my 95‑year‑old…read moremother. I'm looking for a small companion to travel with and keep us company. I have a well‑kept, fenced‑in backyard that borders open space. I filled out their form and waited for a response, but none came. Three weeks into the process, I reached out for an update--any update--and still received nothing. They have been extremely unprofessional. The term "ghosting" is fairly new to me, but I would say these people are being childish and petty. Support another agency--one that cares as much about the customer as they do about the rescued pup. Thanks for listening.

Stay far, FAR away from this place!! Inexperienced,…read moreuneducated, and rude people are all you will find. They care more about making money than finding the best fit for their dogs, and their attitude towards potential adopters makes that abundantly clear. Not to mention $300-800 for a RESCUE dog is absolutely absurd even with vetting. Claiming to pull dogs from high kill shelters all over the country when they're only truly pulling cutesy small dogs they can make a pretty penny off of. Having worked at an animal shelter for years I have a pretty good grasp on how they should function, and it is pretty much the exact opposite of what BDDR has shown me. Meet and greets at the foster dog's home instead of neutral ground without any Brighter Days personnel even actively present is enough for one to turn and run. Then stating that a "successful meet and greet" simply means the two dogs didn't fight? Yikes. Sad standards. The two dogs didn't fight so it's okay even though the potential adoptee was showing clear signs of unease and aggression throughout the entire meet and greet? So both dogs long term comfort and wellbeing and the adopters peace of mind is completely irrelevant? Why are we letting people that can't even read basic dog body language foster these animals and make adoption decisions? The goal of any true, legitimate animal rescue should be to find best fit for that specific animal. Not to quickly pass them in to the first home that comes along so you can make your $800 and then get upset when adopters change their mind in the BEST INTEREST OF THAT ANIMAL. Holding a change of heart against potential adopters and then refusing to let them even look at any of your other dogs is a childish and unprofessional move. And the only ones that suffer from it are the poor animals in your care. Put your petty, personal feelings aside and do better. Do better for the animals.

This dog had Giardia AND Coccidia. 649 to adopt a sick dog, and then 250 in medical bills. I was told they would pay, but they didn't. They asked for not only copies of the bill but the doctors notes. The vet sent all of that to them. I emailed numerous times, called, and they were non-responsive. Despite training, the dog had issues and ultimately wasn't a good fit for our family. Never got a refund, never got medical bills paid. Not a professional way to run a business. Next time I will adopt a rescue from a reputable agency or a breeder. We surrendered our dog back to the fostering family per the contract, and hope he found a good home.

We had him for 10 wonderful years. We nurtured him through three major surgeries, the first one was a 2015 septic gallbladder removal, resulting from a chronic giardia infection he had when we adopted him. The last two huge surgeries (2020 and 2023) were to remove mast cell cancer tumors. I am an oncology RN; fortunately my medical know-how and my & my husband's utter dedication helped him through complete recovery after every major surgery. We slept on the floor with him as he recovered, treating him like our only child; because really that's what he was to us. Between the surgeries, home-cooked organic food, prescription kibble, cadre of supplements, toys and fastidious healthcare, we estimate we probably spent well over $50,000 caring for this precious dog. We would do it again in a heartbeat. We still miss him deeply, and are very proud of how well we cared for him. We still have a wonderful indoor-only 13 year old kitty who has missed his companion. We decided we were ready to adopt another cat friendly fur baby, and came upon two blondes rescue. If I could give zero stars I would. The doggy we attempted to adopt was (what seemed to be) a perfect match cat friendly golden doodle. We got so excited and went through the INSENSITIVE application process, only to be rejected and told that we were not candidates because we "didn't already own another dog". AYFKM NOWHERE in the description did it say that that was a requirement. I have since gone to the link to the doodle we tried to adopt, and there is STILL no updated information stating the requirement of having another dog. This feels very scammy to me, and looking at the other reviews and legal threats, I am glad we dodged that proverbial bullet! That this rescue makes you agree to basically just rent the dog from them is disgusting. In the end, we are very relieved we didn't adopt from them. We understand that not every application will be approved, and not every applicant is a good fit for the dog they are applying for. However, the theme that I am sensing in all of these horrible reviews is that they are collecting your information, rejecting applications on bizarre whims, being opaque about requirements for specific dogs/being purposely obtuse. I cannot quite figure out what their endgame is here, but it does not feel altruistic or professional to me. In the end we just hope the doodle dog is well cared for wherever he ends up - and we are relieved we didn't get caught in the quagmire that this rescue seems to create. I have sent an email asking that they delete our application from their database, as it has a multitude of personal information including a scan of my drivers license. ZERO STARS!! YAY! I get to finally write a review on 4P4L!!…read more We found 4P4L due to a Petfinder search back in 2021. The dog we initially adopted wasn't good with our cats even though he was fine in his foster home with the resident cat. 4P4L understood and we were able to return him. They had asked me to write an updated bio for him so that potential adopters would get a better understanding of his demeanor. He was such a sweet dog but my cats weren't his thing, which wasn't his fault in the slightest. I wrote the bio and he got adopted. I was then asked to volunteer and become a foster, so we started fostering. A 3 day sleepover for a foster pup is how we started and since 2021, we have fostered over 100 dogs and volunteer at adoption events. While it is so tempting to adopt all our fosters, we know we're just helping them adjust to home life. There have been a few that we invoked the 6 month rule: if we have the pup for 6 months, we would adopt him/her because at 6 months, you're a part of our pack. Last month, there was a need to foster these 2 rottie pups because it was time for them to separate from their momma and momma needed a break. Rotties are one of our preferred breeds! Well, we invoked the 6 DAY rule knowing that the pups would be adopted within the week. So that's it! That's how we got our Saoirse! Even if you cannot adopt, please think about volunteering with us or becoming a foster! A little weekend break from the kennel is what all the dogs need and you may just invoke your own 6 day rule!!

It appears this rescue is able to pick and choose their posted reviews! Really Yelp? What have you turned into if we cannot post our TRUTHFUL experiences here? This upsetting and honestly, it's CENSORSHIP! Let me try again and see if yelp decides to censor me again. We adopted a cockapoo here. My mother paid $480 for our girl. We arrived and she comes out to us, UNBATHED, UNGROOMED and she SMELLED awful. She had diarrhea all over her rear end and she was SO terrified, she was shaking and pooped in the girls arms as she was carrying her. It was OBVIOUS that not ONE person had worked with her, bathed her or groomed her since she arrived at this facility! Just put her up on line and waited for someone to adopt her. Clearly NOT in it for the welfare of these animals. Just the money. Never an apology or explanation for this. No follow up phone call to see how she was adjusting. NOTHING. Based on everything here, we DO NOT RECOMMEND this rescue. They are SHAMEFUL!

WE ARE SO FURIOUS!! AN ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE SHELTER. DO NOT RESCUE FROM HERE…read more My mom had applied to adopt a cat from this place over two weeks ago. The director said the cat she was interested in wasn't up for adoption yet and she would have to wait. After many days of my mom calling and talking to the lady she basically said that the cat was already hers she just had to wait for him to be available. Today my mom called the shelter again and the director said THAT THEY GAVE THE CAT AWAY!!!! my mom was so devastated. We just lost our family dog and she was so excited and looking forward to getting a new cat. The director said it was because they had heard my mom say she was going to make it an outdoor cat, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. first, my mom would never do that. She specifically wants a cuddly indoor kitty as a companion, second the shelter specifically said she cant have an outdoor cat and my mom agreed with that part of the contract. It makes absolutely no sense. I could tell from the very beginning something was off about this rescue and I was right. I'm not sure what they're doing over there but whatever it is it's not good. We will probably be getting in contact with a lawyer. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

We adopted our Boston Terrier, Stella, from the Buddy Center in Castle Rock back in Nov 2012 as a 11month old. She is now 13! We got so lucky as someone else was visiting her when we arrived. Back then you could put a wish list if a breed online and would be contacted if one came in to one of the shelters. Not anymore but we loved that feature. We found a stray Boston Terrier puppy a few years ago and took her to DDFL to see if so anyone lost a pet and since she bonded with us and our other Boston overnight, we asked them please please contact us if no one claims her, and a week or two later we were contacted and then had to adopt her. She is now called Beans and is about 4 years old. We sadly had to put down our 11 year old Bassethound a year prior to adopting our Beans, and took him to DDFL. The hardest thing ever to do, and he was my first pet. They were great with us, let us take a lot of time to say goodbyes. I only wish we were allowed back during the euthanasia, I really didn't like just sending him off like that. They do offer you ashes and paw prints after as well which was very nice.
